I don't know what's going on.

I've reached this point where after this battle, I kill the prisoners, save battle replay, hit OK and then the game crashes to the desktop.

I can't get beyond this point. I've re-fought this battle 4 or 5 times and the same thing continues to happen.

I've rebooted (which I don't do much) and still the same thing.

Not sure what to do now. Sound Hardware Acceleration has been turned offf since I first played the game so that's not a solution. There's 10.9 gigs on the drive, so that's not it. I usually have 200 megs of free memory when playing the game. Norton's autoprotect is on, but that hasn't been a problem previously.

I'm at a lost, I'm tired of playing this same battle and I'd like to continue the game.

Any ideas?

Win2000, Athlon XP 1800+, 512 megs RAM, ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500, pagefile 1.390 gigs (900 and 490 respectively on separate partitions on separate drives; MTW is on another separate drive). Anything else you may need to know?

Well, I just decided to d/l the latest video driver as of 9/12 version 5.13.01.6166; and install it. I'll get back to ya. Posting this anyway just in case.

I was alos crashing at the end of a certain year.
I was told go to an old save, at least one before the year that crashed, and play from there. It shouldn't crash.
But, I said, that sucks, so I reloaded my quicksave to the year that crashed; saved form the menu screen; reloaded it.. played the battles out and it worked.
I'm told this bug will be fixed for the patch.

Total PITA, 6 or 7 (or 8 I forget) installs AND reboots!! Oh! Ya gotta load the capture drivers BEFORE the "display" drivers. I knew this, too bad I didn't remember it!! Add another 3 un-installs and installs....errrrr.

If anyone can explain why ATI, puts the readme in the executable which can only be read by executing!!! 6 or 7 (or 8) different readmes to read. I'm sending an email.

Back to MTW, different dirvers, different day ---> Same Sht!!! Only good thing, I finally achieved a 7 to 1 kill ratio fighting this time.

I'll try the Save Game rather than Ctrl-S. Thanks, hope it works.

Do you have a VIA chipset on the mainboard Toranaga? My Athlon XP 2000+ did the same thing when running in Windows XP. 98se was fine. Since I loaded the latest 4in1 VIA drivers for the mainboard I've ben OK in XP too.

Well, the "Save Game" didn't work. The year is 1202, I'm playing the Italians and the Egytians are attacking me in Anatolia.

Yes, I have the Abit KR7A-133R with the VIA KT266A chipset.

http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gifErrrrrr....I've been meaning to update all my drivers for some time...but I've been too lazy. Nice to have a "game" motivate you. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Great! Now, I've got to grab a flashlight, take off my door panel, roll around on the floor, with a pair of tweezers in an attempt to grag the friggin CMOS jumper to "manually" flash the CMOS before updateing the drivers, etc. Wonderfull!! Hopefully, later in the day.

ToranagaSama takes a forced MTW break. Might be nice to get back to the real world.

Opps, sorry, that's the 366A chipset.
Present VIA 4in1 driver ver. 4.36

Diary of a Mad Gamer,

Go to the Abit "USA" site to get BIOS and drivers. Uggghh, don't mean to slight, but the terms "clear" and "concise" doesn't seem to translate well in Asian countries.

KR7A, KR7A-RAID, KR7A-133, KR7A-133RAID, KR7A-133R....now what board do I have??? Hmm...what's the difference between the 133RAID and 133R? Nada! Why is there different BIOS' on different pages for the same board? Why is there NO listing for my board on the Driver page??

This is not fun!! Unbelieveable that the Abit site used to much much worse.

Ok, let's go to the Abit "Twainese" site, which IS worse, but I find the drivers for my board. Decide to get the very latest (4.43) VIA drivers and use the provided link to VIA's site. Check out the 4in1 page, then go to the IDE Driver Guide page. Again, run into the "clear" and "concise" problem--->this site's giving me a headache.

If anyone can tell me precisely which drivers are included in the 4in1, that'd be nice; Do I need to d/l the miniport or not? If included in the 4in1, and in Win200, then will it load when it detects the Win2000 version? Ahhhhhhh!!!

Print out guides and install instructions, time for lunch, shower and to get the heck outta here, enough for one day.

Here's hoping this'll fix my MTW problem as well as several issues I've been too lazy to delve into. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif
