View Full Version : Agoge bonuses too low?

Does anyone think that the bonuses you get after completing the Agoge are too low? Your character has to spend 4 years in Sparte (i.e. you can't use them for campaigns) and at the end of it you get +1 Influence and Morale, or +2 Influence and Morale if they excel in the Agoge.

Shouldn't completing the Agoge add to the valour of your general's bodyguards, or give you a free unit of Spartan Hoplites, or something? Because (as the KH, at least), it's better IMO to send generals to Athens and fill them up with traits and ancillaries from the Akademia than wait for them to complete the Agoge.

I think too. From an economic point of view you should keep your youngbloods out of Sparta. They get tons of more influence from year academy and "+1 Moral" isn't so much either, in particular because not all of these will be generals later. I only use it for roleplaying reasons.

I would suggest to ad "+2 Hitpoints" and "+2 Value of the bodyguard" and "+1 Command" to the Moral bonus.

I would propose: +3 influnce +1 hipoint +3morale +1BDvalour -1assanitaion chance

I didn't suggest + Command because I thought the EB team wanted the player's generals' Command rating to be low.

It's a neat bonus and option, but not necessarily the most useful thing to do with a general. Two things: first, even through the agoge someone won't suddenly become a superman; second, remember that Sparta isn't all it was by that time, illustrated also by the fact that any Greek general can take part, not just Spartans.

I think we could certainly say that bonuses from various institutions are not and have not been balanced. I would hope this is something we can build into the system when we recreate the trait and ancillaries for EBII

I don't think Agoge necessarily needs a buff, more like the profusion of other bonuses might need some tweaking down.

I always thought that characters that had completed the Agoge were more likely to get certain good traits in the future. Surely the influence bonus isn't the only advantage?

Anyway, if you're smart you'll upgrade the school in Sparte to the highest level academy. This way your characters will pick up a ton of ancilliaries before completing the Agoge.

I thought school only gives bonus for character 20~?

Because my 18 year old character doesnt seem to be getting anything in Athens till he turns 20
