View Full Version : Let me share the misery (please read, its funny)

please note that i don't write this to critesize the programmers. I'm pretty sure that the problems i'm talking about will disappear with the next patch. This was just so bad it was funny.

Its the year 12(something somthing), I'm playing the English on expert and at this rate i'm prolly gonna rule everything when its over. Now i rule West-Europe and Nord Africa and the only ships in the mediterrains are mine. And then it happens. You should know that there where spies, bishops and large garrisons in every province where this happend. Loyality was in all the provinces above 130 % and they were all devout Christians. The governors were no bad sorts themselves and I wasn't excommunicated. this all happened in one turn.

first step,Tunesia where 1700 'bandits' thought it was a good time to wreak some havock. The message stated that there was no garrison or castle, bollocks i say.
Next, Sicily where the sicilians revolted with a baddas 900 man army, halve of them royal kniggets (no loyality problems and the sicians weren't wiped out yet).
Then Wessex, my capital ferchrissakes. The same thing as in Tunesia ='bandits', same size =1700. And again, this time in Portugal. 1700 'bandits' becaust they didn't see my castle and the garrison.
If you thought this was bad, it gets worse (or funnier)= Both the Spaniards and the Aragonese reappear ! Things became so absurd I just laughed !
They both appeared in three regions of Nord Spain and South France (Four total, they shared two). In each province they had three full armies with nothing but royal kniggets.

Could all this mayhem be the result of some hidden triggers in expert ? The turn befor 'the big joke' I was doing quite well. My treasury topped 50000 for the first time and i won three huge battle wich would have spelled certain doom for the Germans and the Danes in the next few years. Did the expert AI conclude that i was not having enough fun ?

(Also a minor gripe, could someone please tell me how i can up the frequency ? Its locked in 65-70'ish and my eyes are turning a cool but unhealty shade of red)

you are probably right if you played the stw expert level then it did have some hidden surprises like some clans managed to create a geisha!!!!

m8 you just gotta be prepared, i hope you had a major backup force back in good old england.
hmm ive been strung up with multiplayer so if i played the whole singleplayer campaign then i could help you some more.

good luck on your further exploits.

oh and vote Tenki http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

nick, the trigger seems to be leading an invasion with your king at the periphery, once your empire reaches a certain size. convetional wisdom is that its related to the king's distance to the extremities of the empire. try invading without the king and you shouldn't get the massive rebellions. worked for me.

just keep the seaways clear and large armies on the coasts, that way you can crush rebellions as they appear pretty quickly.

I am currently playing as Byz on expert and the same kind of thing has happened twice. Now I have a massive military force, about 200 peasents in every province policing, and I have not so many spare units out of my 50-odd full stacks to actualy do anything else than keep my empire together, and keep the enemy out. Its slowed my expansion down to a crawl. It took me maybe thirty years to clear Italy with rebellions everywhere, and it had taken me no more than ten to sweep through all of Russia, Poland, Lithuania, and Hungary. The game surely does get more difficult.

Isn't this the "massive rebellion" bug many people have talked about?

This is the only reason I use save/reload in this game - allows me to address funkiness in the loyalty code.

Maybe the AI was thinking your head had got so large...it needed to come off like a nasty boil!

We have specialist removers of 'boils' in the Rage Order...reserve a place online...we will be happy to help.

On second thoughts if bugs in SP made you laugh....bugs in MP will drive you to your doom.

well the problem is the loyalty of provinces tend to drop dramatically for no apparent reason.

i was playing a game with the no agents patch (so no spies ok). had plenty of garrisons, castles and all that everywhere. i put my king in the center of my empire doing nothing.

All of a sudden most of my provinces drop from about 200% loyalty to 100/90%. I did not conuqer any provinces or do anything with my king, i was building economy at the time.

In about 2 turns all of them go back to normal 200%.

WTF!!!

well nothing beats having the Almohads re-appearing... especially when it was on 12 proviences, that was something to enjoy (i defeated them within 5 years again)

it all has to do with your king. When i wasn england, and having only russia left to conquer, i found the having my king in Kiev didnt help the empire.

As for mass revolts, ther is no bug involved, its simple, and its accurate of the middle ages. Youll find that in most mass revolt cases (i once had to deal with 10 stray provs at once) you will find that most of the proviences will infact share borders, if you then use the shift key, you will see some of your provs adjacent to these regions, but not in revolt as the colour red as well. In medival europe, revolts could sometimes send other places into revolt within the same faction, all this represents in the game is a large peasant faction rebelling against thier rulers

I dont think its a bug at all...I love Mass rebelions they add to the flavor.
"the empire is in decline , rebelions are everywhere...the EMperor has fled the capital"
You know alot of people just want to be able to get stronger and stronger in the game.
Its more fun to Get real strong , then see the Empire in decline and retreat then up and runing again and so on http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
