Audei or Arverni?

Hey guys I was just wondering what your favourite gallic faction was and why you chose it

Mines the audei cause I really like the idea of being geographically split, having to deal with a civil war and being able to destroy rome before they build those silly highways (I dont like highways cause I usually play hellenistic factions who cant build em)

I prefer Arverni, 'cuz the colour's nicer, and their territories are contiguous. Furthermore, it has the central position. As a Napoleonic warfare student I like the central position in such a situation.

Aedui have legitimacy on their side, and are probably the more 'civilised' of the two. Arverni are simply badass.

Both are my favourite factions and I play with them equally often, but if I'd had to choose one it would be Arverni because of the god-king status and Vercingetorix (who's to me like Caesar is to Romani fanboys). But Aedui aren't far behind, what with their magistrates, colour and that wild boar and all.

Definitely the Aedui. They have got the greater legitimacy, and their Carnute Druids rock. Also it is easier from their position to conquer Belgae with it's cool troops. And normally you will very soon have a common border with Rome in the south and the Sweboz in the east, combined with the Arverni-Rebels. So you not only have some very strong and interesting adversaries, but also the chance to be the true saviour of gaul, burning down Rome and uniting all of greater gaul (including those nice islands so full of rich ores in the northwest :slomo:)

Aaaactually, the Milnaht are really nothing to shout about. My Bataroas perform better, AND their unit size is bigger. And IIRC, there are no better troops to build from the Belgae until the Mairepos come out, so... Yeah. I reunited the country as Arverni, then heralded my entry into Italia by annihilating the Aedui, then destroying the Romani in a blitzkrieg. Then I sat quiet while converting my southern armies into mixed Celt-Romano-Greek ones, then blitzed the Sweboz with my 3 remaining Celto-Rhaetic armies.

Arverni are much better because of the whole God-King thing. Either way, though, the Gauls are tough once you start expanding to the east. :)

Sigh... Aedui or Arverni. I had unified Gaul and was just about ready to sack Rome as the Arverni when I finaly decided I thought the Aedui units looked just a little bit cooler. Back to the start :oops:

I would like the Arverni cos of their geographic position mainly but Im Casse through and through unfortunately

Bataroas look very good value units too, cheapish and 200 strong with longswords and a little armour

They are very good value units indeed. They can hold almost any line as long as you intend to relieve their pressure from flank or rear sometime soon. And their unit size is huge. Milnaht are comparable, but somehow they die faster than Bataroas though stats are better. Hmm.

I like the Aedui because of the Wild Boar thingy on their standards. Plus the Soldurus model of the Aedui is WAY cooler than the Arverni. And the Cornutos guys are sweet looking too. But the Arverni Gaesatae model has a cooler shield than the Aedui one.

In terms of legitimacy... well.....
-I like the Aedui because of the balance of powers whithin their governing structure, its reminds me of the balance of powers between Congress+WhiteHouse+Supreme Court. (Hell I would even say the craddle of democracy was in GAUL not in Athens. :smash:)
-But I also like the Arverni because Vercingetorix was an Arverni. And I am a BIG Vercingetorix fan! Oh and a Brennus fan too, both of them.

HOWEVER, I constantly get generals who are "Arverni" in my armies so it really doesn't matter which one u play with. you will have Arverni, Aedui, Helvetii, Insunbres, etc, etc for generals its really cool :yes:

Having played against the Gauls, I would pick aedui for the Carnutes. I like having more variety earlier. It seems you have to wait a long time to get new arverni. I'd like to be able to use gold chevroned carnutes. Thank goodness the AI averni killed those guys off when I played as Rome.

Arvernii. i've never played as either but looking at them the Arvernii always jump out at me and say play me next. i never do but i want to.

and in all my campaigns the arvernii ends up growing stronger than the aedui.

I like the Aedui because.
1. CARNUTES!
2. I like their faction symbol and Color
3. They start out seperated with weak forces adds to the challenge.

But still i'm more of a casse man myself.

I would have to say the Averni. Although the Aedui were initially the rullers of Gaul I just can't forgive them for siding with the Romans during Caesar's (illegal) war. For me it is simply a historical view more than anything... Also the Averni chieftans have cooler helmets!

I like them both equally. And Casse too. Celts were one great nation (or great mix of nations) with great culture, etc. In game I have chosen the Aedui (it was 0.81) because of carnutes. Then I wanted to play in a different part of world, but Arverni are waiting and in 1.0 the reforms are no problem. Both the god king and reign sharing are attractive.
