View Full Version : really simple but enormously helpful fixes for the patch

I'm sure there's been a lot of wishlists for the SP patch, but here's a few simple ones that would help gameplay a lot:
-a key to toggle what sea provinces are currently blockaded. (You know, like the loyalty key for provinces.) Trying to figure out how the hell your trade routes are blocked is very frustrating when there are oodles of ships on the map. The little pop up window saying that a sea area is blockaded is FAR TOO SLOW in coming up.
-when training units in a specific province, it should tell you what mods the unit will have. You know, pluses in morale, etc. Like in MTW. And once the unit is trained, it should say on the unit what these mods are.
-a hotkey for the save game screen. Like control-s, and it brings up the savegame dialogue box with out having to go through menu choices. (p.s. you should really take a cue from Blizzard and get rid of your splash screens on game startup once you've played the game more than once. And get rid of the slow crossfade when you hit the escape key to go to the game menu. The crossfade and splash screen is nice to look at once. Maybe twice. Now I hate it.)
THese things are simple to implement (I think) and would improve the flow of the game tremendously.
Fixing the screen resolution on the strategy map - it resets itself after every time you hit "end year" - would be nice, too.
Ability to access a general's info panel from the list parchment. Right now I have a huge list of generals and have to click on a name to bring me to the army that contains that general and then right click that army to see the general's info and V&V's. When I close the info screen I am returned to the list, but it's reset to the top and I have to scroll down again with one click per name to get to the next general.

How about just fixing it so you can see what fleets are there???
I mean, it looks like Times Square at rush hour in some of those sea lanes!

good suggestions. i like the one about the trade routes and doing it like the shift key and loyalty.
here's a couple more.
when one of your own agents is assassinated you are told his name, but not his profession. with multiple agents in provinces (and even with just one), you dont know really who's died, unless you just happen to know the names of all your agents.
add the province where the unit/agent is located to the various lists.

I agree. I have assasinations all the time that I don't know what happened. If you're going through parchments quickly I like the old "Ninja assination success" because you knew what happened. Now you have to decrypt the message first.

Oh, a related topic to viewing ships in the sea. My ships always seem to be in the BACK of the sea province, behind all of the enemy ships. It's a pain to click and drag without zooming in. Not sure what algorithm is used for ordering, but a small shift could make it easier to move ships around.

Stackin agents is very much needed as spys, bishops & assassins work better in groups.
The zoom in after every turn gets annoying after a while.
I like the way you can differentiate between generals of royal blood/heirs & normal generals . Its a small crown at the base of the army stack

here's another little one, very minor, that i'd like to see. when you pick up any unit on the campaign map, rather than click and hold the left mouse button and then move it where you want it and un-hold the button, how about you click the left mouse button and it picks up the unit and holds it automatically, without having to hold the mouse button down. you can then move it around without having to keep the mouse button depressed. to drop it, simply left click again. this would be useful when you're moving units long distances. sometimes i use agents to 'find' things by picking them up and holding them over various other units. when they ghost, i've found whatever i'm looking for. kind of obnoxious to have to keep holding down the mouse button for this.
or, left click and hold to pick it up, but if you also then right click while still holding down the left, it would maintain the hold without further need to depress. drop again by left clicking.
this is a minor thing, low priority.

Kraellin im all for anything that helps with the moving of units.first off let me say im blind as a bat and clumsy with it.I find my self freqyently scrolling from one side of the map to the other wiv a little bishop or whatever dangling from my pointer and nearly always manage to drop him enroute or miss the intended target completley.

I d like to see the ability to save the game at ANY point including just before a battle. I have wasted over 30 years of game time getting to a pint of battle and then the game froze up on me in the pre-battle troop disposition phase. this has happened three times (BTW anyone else experieincing this ? )

Good suggestions.
The scrolling around & moving units thing gets really anoying when somehow you didn't place the unit correctly & it goes back to where it was. This can become quite tedious when trying to move a unit into a small province with many units/agents already there.
