View Full Version : The Script?

Unless you're playing as Rome or one of the other few factions that is heavily influenced by reforms, I personally see very little reason to activate the script. The AI is just as ruthless and sharp and all the script does is make the game a lot slower. Reforms are nice, but as Carthage I've already knocked Rome out of the game, and I am endeavoring to find a better reason for continually activating the script.

Thoughts?

Playing without the script will screw up the whole game. A lot of stuff depends on the script, traits, 4 turns per year, reforms, events to name just a few. Also the AI will run out of money and/or population after a few turns, so it won't put up any real resistance against the human player. Also the AI can't build gouvernments in conquered cities without the script and so can't recruit anything.
Without the script you're just playing vanilla RTW with EB map and units.

The big thing you'll not have without the script is AI government placements. Without the script on, they would get a government placed. They will then take a long time to build one and if they ever do, it will be inappropriate for the region since the homeland/subjugation/alliance buildings will have been placed for your faction. As a result, they won't be able to recruit the appropriate units in any faction they acquire through conquest.

Then this is the mentioned things of, all but 2 factions will go broke on turn 2 and will never recover. And if they do get money, they will deplete the population of their town quite quickly.

In other words....there is absolutely no point to playing EB if your not activating the script.

I would actually say, you haven't been playing EB, if you haven't been activating the script.

Does anyone think I need the script when I'm playing EB?

I'm guessing that was either sarcasm or your falling asleep.:beam:

No, you don't need the script when you're playing EB. Because you've already activated the script when you're playing EB.

Perhaps the team should point out the importance of the script even more than now, on the website, in the FAQ and everywhere possible. There still seem to be many new players who forget to activate it and wonder why they don't get reforms or people who don't see the necessity to activate it because they don't know how important it is.

Maybe there should be some screens during the installation where you are told to activate the script or something.

Best thing would be if the script could be auto-activated if you start or load a game, but I guess if that was possible it would already be in the game...

agreed- it should be on the loading screen when you are loading a campaign- maybe under the quote you can put, "dont forget to activate the EB background script!"

It's not like it's a major chore is it?

Every time you load up you click one little button once.

Sure it isn't a big thing, but look at all these "where are my reforms?" threads...
A lot of people just seem to download EB and start playing without taking a look at the FAQ or the forums. I understand that some people don't want to read a lot before starting to play, but since the script is so important, there should be a way to inform them about it without reading the whole FAQ first.

.
What kind of nerves do they have to be able to just ignore that smartaß popping up with flashlights blinking every time you click a settlement, FM or your shield? :end:

:embarassed: Actually, my first venture into the EB forums was to try and figure out how to disable the annoying "help" guy that kept popping up every time I clicked . . . anything?
So, I quickly found out what he's for. . . but I did play for a couple hours before the thing annoyed me enough to make me RTFM.

I'm all better now. . .:beam:
