View Full Version : Missile units ignoring commands

I seem to have a problem with my missile units ignoring my commands of who to shoot and proceeding to select their own targets. This occurs even when the target I select is in range and they have automatic fire off. When I order the missile units one at a time this seems to happen less often.

shouldnt you be reporting this elsewhere instead of in the AAR forum?

Not necessarily as I'm not sure if it is even a technical problem or just part of the game

I've noticed that missile troops in 1.5 are more cautious about hitting their own troops than they were in previous versions of total war. I suspect that there must be some check that the computer does to make sure friendlies are not too close to the target. It may be linked to that.

But it may be a CPU thing. For about a week, I would keep EB on my PC going all the time. The game would be on the strat map during the day and during the night - the theory being that it took too long to load the game, and I could use my laptop for things like email, etc. But I noticed that not only would this wear out my PC, but the units would behave oddly the longer the game had been running. This was especially true with cavarly never charging or even galloping. I solved all of this by just closing down the game each night.

So, to make a long story short, have you been playing for a long time without giving your PC a rest?

(I know nothing about how computers actually work; perhaps this second explanation is absurd).

Was the selected target standing behind the unit they were firing at instead or did you order a group of units to attack (fire at) a single target? Both does not work. The second one is also when you order, for example, a group of cavalry to charge a single enemy unit. Most of the units will go for other targets instead.

wow, that's really an EB record. :2thumbsup:

And yes, running the game for to long might cause problems. I haven't seen that on the tactical map, but on the strategical map you'll have more and more pinned AI stacks the longer the game runs. Close down EB and start it new and a lot of them will start moving again.

Thanks, I do tend to run the game overnight but I think the problem was caused by what Konny is talking about.
