View Full Version : Weird / unpredictable battle results?

Lately I have been experiencing strangely unpredictable battle results, not using the automatically resolve thing, as you might think, but when i fight the battles myself

This has been happening for roughly the last 4 campaigns I have started (VH/M) and am finding myself being whooped repeatedly (or at least suffering heavy losses when I least expect it) on battles that I would expect to be a walkover.

For example, assaulting Corinth, my crack legions of Principes were absolutely slaughtered by the experience 1 mercenary peltasts on the walls, when usually I would expect to rout them with relatively few losses.

Similiarly, early on in my most recent Julii game, attacking Patavatium (or whatever the hell it is called) I had the enemy trapped on the square, comprised of about 500 light infantry and mebbe 50 light cavalry, i sent my triarii to sort the horsemen out whilst 2 groups of hastati attacked the infanty, and to finish them off my 100 strong generals bodyguard attacked them all from behind, i sustained nearly 50% casualties!

Does anyone else experience weird battles throughout certain campaigns while others seem to be total walkover or is it just me?

Did you up the difficulty?

Did you up the difficulty?

Or did someone else do so as a joke on you?

Caravel has a point, those sound like results from a VH/VH setting.

lol yeah, that was my first thought, but i always play medium difficulty on battle maps because of the insane results you get if you increase it, and my rtw is totally unmodified so i'm a bit stumped tbh :p

Well, any randomized algorithm can produce odd results from time to time -- every once in a blue moon King Alfred does beat the odds etc. -- but to have so many in a row seems to defy probability a mite.

Actually, it would be defying probability if it didn't happen occasionally :book:

On a more serious note, is there a way to check Difficulty in a Savegame, in case its glitched and changed? (Assuming thats possible, I swear I've seen a thread mention it before).

I don't think its possible, although there is a method of changing difficulty in existing saved games by using this tool (http://www.mizus.com/files/files/RTW/Tools/RomeSage_v1.0.0.9-%20RTW-save-game-editor.zip). If in doubt, it could be used to modify the difficulty level to what one thinks they assigned it at.
