Totally rockin? Sorry if this should be in a sticky, but what I have seen of EB, it is good.

I'll probably have a new computer in January. A good one. So, in the meantime, there is always XGM and Ancient TW. XGM mod (the latest version at least) really made some good changes. Heavens forbid! But if you ever think of dwelling EB for a second... (if) you can always try out XGM.

XGM is a great mod, I use to play it all the time, but I'm too lazy to make two installs for XGM and EB

I know. It is a great mod. I like the vanilla "look" of it (though much has changed) the best part of all. Gaul's icon as the wild boar, well, just reminds me of Christmas 04, when I recieved RTW from Santa. I commenced to play as the Jullii, than I think Scipii than Brutii, before I knew how to mod anything at all whatsover, and unlock the rest of the factions...

*Can't really stand the vanilla look anymore*
A (relatively) post on these boards had a picture of a unit of a Makedonian phalanx unit... And dear god it looked awful. <.<
I much prefer the gritty and realistic look of EB over the simple and clean look of vanilla.
But then again, opinions, opinions...

There are no words sufficient to describe EB1.0, that's how good it is. Install it, and prepare for rationing your sleep, food, toilet visits and showers

It's wunderbar. *calm voices gives no clue to raging passion for EB within*

Tis a work of art! Still I cant help worrying that just when Ive perfected my latest empire 1.1 will be released and I'll have no choice but to start again.
It feels like a 1.0, it's done, it's tighter. It's got functionally complete unit rosters for all factions now. There's much less "this unit is under/overpowered". I find myself thinking "this isn't quite right" about a tenth as often as before. The finances seem better, and the merc pools less gratuitous. AI expansion is looking good. There's some cosmetic stuff been added, skins and walls and so on.
On the downside, I find it more restrictive in terms of what you can build, where you can expand etc. It sometime feels like the EB team are trying to play my game for me.
A couple of fundamental RTW problems are still there (not that they're EB's fault): distance to capital penalties become a bigger problem than the enemy armies just as regional recruiting gets interesting, and there's no player-driven technological change (the Carthies can't throw fifty years and a mountain of gold at learning horse archery).
All things considered, it's a good step from 0.81.
I must give a special thanks for the creation of 1.0.
I've been a RTW fan for a few years now and i've defeated it countless times, and last year I did the same with Rome Total realism (which was not too bad in my opinion.)
But Europa Barbarorum is bloody fantastic.
I've been playing as Saba for a while now and Im nearing the victory conditions - all I require is Southern India and Asia Minor.
Im also a student of Egyptology and my natural hatred of the Ptolemaic empire is strengthened through this game. Jesus I hate the Greek bastards.
I have an ageing laptop which means SLOOOOOOOOOW loading times but I think its a small price to pay for such a great game!
CHEERS!
:egypt:
It's really great, unfortunatly not as stable as 0.81.

Well that's good to hear. Does a GForce 5500 let you play it, especially since I just ordered an extra 512 of RAM, totally a wopping ( :laugh4: ) 1 GIG!!! (And most of you folks have 2... :skull: )
And OT, but still a question: would that be sufficient enough for MII?

Sorry to disappoint you, but the answer for me is: no.
I have Geforce 7950 and it is enough to run EB 1.0 and MII with graphic setting set on maximum with large size of unit but not extra large.
RAM size is more important.
1 GIG of RAM is not enough for good performance of them both.
2 GIG or RAM is enough for MII.
And I am going to increase my RAM further to better EB performance.
I have a different opinion
That's not a opinion of mine, it's a mere fact. I can hardly recorgnize CTDs in the last version of 0.81. In 1.0 since 220/215BC, CTDs occur continously. Befor that time there were about 4-5.

I've got only 1 gig and running both EB and MTW2 fine. And I use the huge unit size.

Any speed prob's are solved with Alex.exe really, I would say 30-40% faster fllow..
Anyway, I would not change my EB for a new car :laugh4:

it's not fact if you are the only example. i actually do find the 1.0 version as much more stable. so i guess it is a fact 1.0 is more stable.:juggle2:

A brilliant game! Still a few recruitment holes (i think, unless they were intentional), however a really, really polished game.
If even any more donations are required I am happy to help again. Have now played this game more than any other game, ever.
Crash to Desktops: Mixed bag.. on the campaign map I have not had a single CTD regardless of how long I play for.
CTD at the end of battles, unfortunately, seems more common. I can't decide if it is my (now) mediocre system or the game though. XT 800 Video card seems a little low end nowadays, 2 Gig ram and a good sized processor however are fine.
Regardless, well worth the occasional frustration of a CTD post battle :2thumbsup:
P.S. Using Alex.exe rather than BI seems to be resulting in a more satisfying experience, less moronic naval invasions by allies (usually with 1 or 2 units), less equally pointless naval invasions by enemies and the general warfare seems more balanced with larger AI cities being very difficult for other AI factions to take with the AI actually retraining units sometimes.
One real problem only is now the Silver Death (Selucia) is being regularly defeated by the Yellow Death (Ptolies).

why is my opinion any more "rubbish" than yours? can't we be equally right?
mods will react differently to different computer specs, this explains why some people have all sorts of bugs, while others do not.
each of our personal EB installs are different. therefore so are our opinions of stability.

Yes, and if there are more bugs/CTDs reported compared to the previous version, it is what...?

My computerspecifics and procedure of installation doesn't differ to the foregoing. Besides that, with the first installation of 0.8 i had the same problems as i have now with 1.0. Another aspect, after the last update of 0.8 complains about CTDs decreased, at least i can't remember any significant, but what i remember is a thread to give a little stability survey and the comments there were consistently positiv.

Same here. At about 220-230BC there was no seleucid empire anymore. A bit to fast and easily wiped from the surface, aren't they?

I have a GeForce FX5500, a crappier one of the series, and only 512 M RAM. Initial loading time is about six minutes and I have to wait about an extra minute for the script initialization advisor to pop. Other than that it plays great and some graphical settings are on high/best.
With your gig of RAM RTW's memory leak is likely to hit much, much later and you'll experience great gaming leisure. :2thumbsup:

No need for two installs (as long as you don't mind EB cities in XGM strat map), both mods uses the -mod setting which makes them non conflicting (just like their communities)...
Other than that, I have to say that the latest Alex-EB seems to give a pretty satisfactory experience, slightly better speed and marginally better AI.

In 1.0, EB is entirely mod-foldered. There is no files placed in the vanilla data folder.

My condolences. Perhaps, you should try to re-upload it and re-install it? Thus far I had only two CTDs during two campaigns.
Ah, just installed 1.0 (damn long install). Started a game with Haya and in 262 BCE I took my first settlement. Yeah I know, I shouldn't rush, but sometimes I just can't help it. Life was too peaceful. Seleucids have been like the best neighbours ever to this point.
