Well I was just thinking (or what I think is thinking, go figure *g*).

Some say the AI is no good match for them in SP, and see their point.
Some say it's too hard. Well, they paid the same, so they should enjoy the game, too.

Why is it not possible for the AI to learn from the player ?
Now this is NOT for any patch, or not even an expansion. But maybe worth a thought.

I play the game. I am doing great, because I build units XY, and get my trade network running, attack province Z, etc. I start the next game, rinse, repeat.

If there was some kind of record of my actions, that the AI has access to and can learn from, I would build up my own challenge. If I am good, the AI very soon is good, too. I remember a racing game (revs) on the old C64 (10 years or so ago), where you could race against your own record. You see the other car, that is performing exactly a copy of your own actions. Hmmm ...

I am not talking about "true" Intelligence here, or training a neural network. I just want the AI to try to copy me, and this should not be too hard imho. All this is only for the strategic game, tactics I think are to hard to evaluate to do something like this.

Maybe even make these recorded actions exchangable files. Want to play against me in SP ? Just load my file, and see if you can handle me playing the turks *g*. Heck, I would just watch silently a game where some of the senior players battle it out ...
Even tricks would be possible, like playing France and never attacking Spain, and play the next game as Spain, with the trusty ally France watching your back. The AI should try to stick to the record in certain tolerances to allow for unexpected events. Even if the record is impossible to follow at some point, it would give the AI a good start that it lacks now.

Opinions ? Good thing (tm) or Bad thing (tm) ?

Slightly undoable wothout a big IA team, I fear... Copying a behaviour is FAR harder than simply following a driving path. The Ai has to analyze soooo many factors each round, as who settles down to the left/right, where are the main dangers..... You cannot "copy" a behaviour without a good intelligence, artificial or not.
