ive been changing the shield pattern for the roman infantry for my mod, as seen below. however, you will notice the back around the edges of the shield. how can i eliminate this?
i really like this shield design, if you look close enough you can even see the feather pattern for the wings!

also, how can I run my mod without replacing the whole rome file, i have a copy of the data folder, but edited?

it must be alpha-channel, its lack; probably saved in wrong format. are you using GIMP? I heard it needs some setup for it..
