View Full Version : Rant - Ugh, hotseat frustration.

While playing retrofit mod I wanted to do Budwise's experiment again.
I've put my campaign on 0.5 timescale and set player faction to timurids.

After 4 hours of waiting (I went back and forth to classes and checked, lol) and not touching I found that...

denmark, scotland, and turks were the major empires, with papacy hold all of italy and moors and portugese surviving off their respective starting lands. Hungary and russia are also alive as Denmark's vassals..which is quite interesting.

So I thought it might be an interesting challenge to face established empires, even with elephant madness. However I found out that

a) my saves don't work..if I load them it doesn't even take in console commands.
b) I can't chase enemies...soon as they rout the battle ends.
c) I can't choose to sack exterm occupy if I don't assault a settlement in my turn.

But my biggest grief is being unable to load the game. Why is this happening? Is there something I msut change in the config file to be able to load the hotseat save?

LOL i guess with 620 turns those AI empires can get really huge.
Interesting that Scotland has Aarhus....

sorry, I don't know the answer to your question

but I think you should play as Portugal on that map, not the Timurids...

c'mon one-province Portugal!

I sorta took control of all the factions and portugal and the moors had something like 500k debt....so no :laugh4:

But the save file won't work so that game's gone forever..

What do you mean the savegame is broken? This is my experience:
When you load the game, it runs trough all the AI factions and then stops before yours. It then just lingers there, not accepting any input, even console commands, for about a minute or two. Eventually everything is back to normal, and you can resume your turn.

I too tried to use hotseat mode as a cheat to play the Mongols, but was frustrated by the same things you mention (can't fight defensive battles,...).
Also, I couldn't get a settlement as my 'Homeland'. I started around Baghdad, and any settlement I took was super-sacked&exterminated (you get money, but are kicked out immediately and it goes rebel), just as you see when they are controlled by the AI. I thought that eventually, I would capture the target (like Antioch, Jerusalem or Constantinople) and be allowed to settle, but alas...

Same problem Regor. I'll try waiting.
Although the homeland thing, if u fight the battle urself on YOUR turn you can choose to settle, but if u starve it out then u automatically ubersack it. Sucks about hotseat :/

I've waited for a while but the campaign won't resume. Or do I have to wait really long for this?
