Now this is just silly....

A Turkish lawyer has filed a complaint to Uefa after Inter wore a shirt with an offensive symbol, at least to Islamic culture, in their recent match against Fenerbahce.
....
....
A Turkish lawyer who's an expert on European law, Baris Kaska, is asking Uefa to cancel the three points Inter earned in their win against Fenerbahce in the recent Champions League match.

The Nerazzurri had beaten the Turkish champions 3-0 at home to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

The reason for the appeal is unusual: the celebratory shirt for Inter's centenary worn by the team that night, and on several other occasions this season, offended many people in Turkey.

The shirt's scheme saw a big red cross on a white background, a symbol of the city of Milan, and reminded many of an emblem of the order of the Templars, which is considered offensive in Islamic culture.

Inter consciously did not wear their 'centenary shirt' in their first match against Fenerbahce in Istanbul, but at home, they did not think it was necessary to do the same.

However, the very sensitive Turkish media reacted bitterly and that led to the official appeal filed by Kaska, who announced this decision during an interview to Barcelona daily La Vanguardia.

Let's ban the Swiss flag as well...or even better, the Red Cross. Bloody offensive, I tell you.

No wonder the Turks were a tiny bit upset in the WC qualifying last time round when they lost to Switzerland on aggregate. We now know the true reason.

It's all a bit silly, really...

Losing teams trying to ban the winning team through some weird UEFA/FIFA/FA complaint...

Like that's something new. And this case isn't extraordinary when it comes to "complaints", really.

I've read this in the newspaper this morning. Talk about being intollerant, just because the jersey looks like something but everyody knows (or should know) it's not...
I see a long road ahead before Turkey will be truelly part of the EU.

Besides the lawyer should file a complaint in a civil court. Now it just feels like a fan that wants his team to win no matter what a.k.a a sore loser.

That is exactly what it is, isn't it?

I can't really see where this is a political issue, instead of a football issue...

its odd inter didn't just wear a different shirt for the home leg, as they did away as they obviously knew it could be offensive, but its a silly thing to get worked up over...

Not really. They're in Italy. Why adjust there? I think they showed enough courtesy away, and don't even believe that was necessary considering the actual background of the symbol.

I wonder what they would say if they defeated the 'crusaders'. But example 10000000 why we shouldn't bother with muslim sensetivities, they prefer to be offended and thus take offence on everything. (They need that emotion?)

Uhm, football teams adjust their colours all the time. That shirt ain't Inters "real" colours either(black and blue stripes).

True fans hate these idiot "special shirts" anyway. they belong in the trash along with white boots :furious3:

As far as I know, one sulking Turkish lawyer filed a complaint with UEFA. With the rationale that this shirt is a racially offensive.

Amateurs.

All the FFF (French Football association) needed to get a hearing on a complaint was a twelve year old ballboy who didn't return the ball quickly enough. We even won too, though we didn't get the three points (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/internationals/6163060.stm).

Never ascribe to religious sensitivity what you can ascribe to sore, sulking losers.

Ball boy warning stuns SFA chief

David Taylor (left) was shocked by Raymond Domenech's complaint
Scotland have been warned about the amount of time ball boys at Hampden take to get the ball back into play.
Uefa upheld a complaint by France coach Raymond Domenech and the referee after Scotland's 1-0 win in October.

Scottish Football Association chief executive David Taylor said it was the most bizarre thing he had encountered.

"Our ball boys failed to deliver the ball back after (Gary Caldwell's) goal. The happy ending is we got off with a warning," Taylor said.

I know it as a course to learn English. And there I was, thinking until two minutes ago that Muzzy was an evil English government subsidised plot to undermine France by teaching French children English while simultaneously undermining their superior sense of esthetics.

Yea - I remember hearing that 5 times a day in between Saturday morning cartoons when I was a wee lad.

Just nonsense. What the hell? It represents the city of Milan not the Knights Templar! By the same token, Islamic nations should really be angry at Georgia.

Yeah I agree with you there IrishAmermenian. I think the world just needs to chill out and realize that though things are pretty messed up people freaking out and burning random people in effigy and hating the West, or fear-mongering against Muslims really isn't going to help any of us except those crazies in charge of the cults.
