Well to give you an rough idea, we are senting our readme off to translators today. Still no release date yet.
Sorry, Magyar, but this is just plain and simple what comes out of a male cow from behind.
The game is very much playable right now, as the traffic in this forum, sales figures (at least here in Germany) and a couple of other signs will tell you if you care to listen.
Don't want to insult you, but to stress your point in some rants you may have (no software is perfect)by saying it is unplayable is getting me started.
Yes, multiplayer has some issues I hear. There may even be some bugs in singleplayer. But this game is far from unplayable.
Feel free to stop playing Magyar, it's your free time and frankly there are better things to do in life (or so some people say), but the game is not only very playable but also extremely enjoyable. Indeed I have been playing non stop for the last 15 days, wrecking my social life and infuriating my girlfriend.
I had one issue of the game slowing to much and had to cut the sound, now its mute but runs like a charm, never crashed. As for inconsistent AI, I deplore its lack of brains, but it still gives me some nasty surprises once in a while, and expert/late / GA keep me into it.
Magyar Khan was one of the top MP players on STW so unless someone has stolen his username I am reluctant to discredit his opinion in such an off-hand manner.
There seems to be a problem with drop outs on multi-player MTW which may affect some platforms more than others. Again this was a feature of early STW that was cirrected by an early patch. So the fact that you are lucky and dont have this problem may not mean that it doesn't exist.

I have no problem with recognizing Magyar as an experienced player and he surely has some points. Maybe on his system the game really is unplayable.
Nevertheless, there are some ppl reading this forum (most of them will not post) that think of buying the game and want more info. If they see an experienced member of the community (over 1000 posts alone counts for something) state that "the game is unplayable", they will not buy. If he said "multiplayer is unstable" or "my system keeps crashing", ok. You can always check if your system is the same as his in this case to avoid problems.
But I know a few people that will do the following before they buy ANY game:
- go to the forum
- check for patches (when, what is fixed)
- check for bugs
I will not tell Magyar what he should say (he has the right to say what he wants, maybe more so (looking at his experience) than me). I simply added a few words of my own to put this post into perspective, as I thought was neccessary.
So have fun all http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Mine runs sccchwwweeett, had a huge battle today 4 factions fight over a province with 3 full stacks each, Huge army size, which made it approx 8000 troops plus reinforcement. it ran ok on my computer. MTW is playable i would say.
I agree 100% with Dragon. Saying the game is unplayable is (no disrespect intended) a silly thing to say. Because I've played it and the ONLY problem I have ever had with it (excluding features I would like added) is occasionally getting disconnected from Gamespy for no reason.
SP is perfectly playable on my (very average, 800 MHz, 128MB Ram, TNT2) machine, and MP isn't bad (when Gamespy works.)

It's getting warm in here...that must be one hell of an INFERNO!
i don't have the game yet but, from what i can hear from people that know a lot shogun and mongol there are so many problems with lag in multi, with stats for range units and armour that for the "good veterans" this game should be unplayable.
said that, i can't say the opinion of Magyarkhan is law but it go really near.
and i think whoever disagree with that don't know him well.

The game is not unplayable, but for some on occasion the multiplay is impossible. I have had to fight it somedays and I have had it work well on others. I think Magyarkhan is frustrated in this post, because he tried to play for about 4 hours and only got one game in that didn't crash. It is odd how it occurs at times for some and then everything is ok for days after, then it is back again. The game is a lot of fun when you can get online and play without dropping. Also, unit balance is not that far out of alignment. The only unit I have seen, and I am not talking about any of the missile units (they are fine in my opinion), is the order foot soldier's unit which, the only problem with it is that it is underpriced for the statistics it has. It is similar to the Almohad Urban Milita unit, but is 50 florins cheaper at valour level 0. As the level of valour increases up to 4, the cost difference gets much larger as well. Still there are ways to fight these units if you are aware of them. All in all the game is very good.

u all may think what u think but without a correct patch its a pain in the ass to play it ONLINE.
to those in here. SP -sadly- aint real competition for teh very good players. rampaging over every map in teh campaigns with up to 10-1 kill ratios aint fun.
so MP needs a patch to make it fun playable, everything is playable, it depends on what u expect from it. our Khan expected (hoped for) a well-working online interface and expected a bad balanced game. luckily the game is more balanced than ever expected, and teh gamemechanics are surely improved. still MP is lacking a lot.
WHen i see wellknown names getting dropped all teh time, and if u do a search on this forum u will find them. on a time my Khan and pussicat dropped 5 times from teh chatenvirronnment in about 10 minutes. keeping chatting was the only solution to stay in. last night more people were getting dropped.
last week he didnt end playing cuz he wanted too, all the nights a drop or lockup was used to stop playing.
a drop from chat or a crash to desktop might affect the tiem u reconnect after it as well. so to be more sure u must restart pc. happening that 5 times a day...
it seems it goes with waves, and perhaps it only gets the ones with windows 98 and with speed lower than 1000 mHz.
sp worked fine tho, no problems there. it is just another example that this game is build for sp-players and a bit dressed up for mp.
