As far as I can see alliances in MTW aren't, really - they're basically non-aggression pacts.

The thing about having an ally is that you join forces to either deter or defeat a common enemy. So far in MTW I've yet to see an ally joining in against an aggressor; all that happens is that they might get struck off the list of allies.

I used to love the rare occasions in STW when two clans would turn up on the battlefield on the same side. It would be sooooooo cool to arrange - or face - two allied armies on the field, with all the issues of co-operation etc that go along with it.

After all, it is set up that way in some of the historical battles (eg Hastings), though I appreciate it's more difficult to organise in a campaign. Add-on, anyone?

I have seen it 2 or 3 times (And I played for many dozens of hours), but usually they only send in a unit of peasants...

I too loved it in STW when an ally would show up to help... could it be patched that there's more support from your allies ?

One of my Allies actually showed up on my battlefield!

We happy Germans were attacking some pesky Poles when our buddies, the Novogardians showed up to "help". That's what their Propoganda Department told us, anyways.

Now, I was not quite sure if the Novos were there to truly help, or just to hinder ... was not even sure if it was just a fluke that they showed up (maybe they were heading there anyways?).

QUE BATTLE MUSIC
-close up of General who is wondering why 3 armies are at a 2 army battle-

When the battle started, not being sure of their motives, I turned my army to face the Novos. Those two-timing fiends marched right AT me (gulp!) ...

...then they marched right past my front ... kept on going ... charged and routed the Poles (yes - I mopped up a few Poles when they started routing) and then, when time for ownership of the province came around, they LEFT and I ended up with a shiny new province.

I wonder what would have happened if they were not my Allies at that time. Maybe the AI would have done a Random Roll to determine just WHO they were going to attack?

Regardless, it made for a memorable battle.
