Hi everyone.

I've finally decided to reinstall RTW at long last and install Patch 1.5... a patch that allowed for unlimited cheating AND enabled me to install RTR 1.9 all together! I couldn't ask for more.

Well, except for the fact that one of the cheats didn't seem to work as it did before. I'm refering to the process_rq cheat that allowed you to instantly finish up a training line. Most of the other cheats that I used frequently (or even exclusively) have been working right, such as the give_trait, add_population, process_cq, etc.

Anyone got any advice for me? And no, the 'please be patient and play fair' will not be accepted. I don't call myself 'cheater' on this forum for no reason. :p

Thanks in advance.

Can you give the me the exact "give_trait" cheat, it hasn't been working and it keeps saying "character not found" when I'm sure I'm placing it in the correct order.

Hullo Cheater ~
As far as I know, "process_rq" is among a large list of cheats that were supposed to work in v1.5, but peculiarly don't seem to. If it worked in older versions you may have to downgrade to that version to get it working again. Sorry ~:(

Hi Shogun ~

Can you give the me the exact "give_trait" cheat, it hasn't been working andit keeps saying "character not found" when I'm sure I'm placing it in the correct order.Once you've opened up the console (pressing the ` key) typically its:
"give_trait "[first name]_[last name]" [trait name] [trait level]"

In mods with characters posessing three names, its usually either:
"give_trait "[first name] [middle name]_[last name]" [trait name] [trait level]"
which is the most common, or:
"give_trait "[first name]_[middle name] [last name]" [trait name] [trait level]"
which is very rarely, if not ever, used.

Problems arise when there are two characters with the same name though. I'm not quite sure what happens, but I am lead to believe that it provides the error message "character not found".

Good luck Shogun ~:)

It was a tough nut to crack, but here's the trick. Just write this

give_trait "Tiberius Cornelius" [insert your trait there].

Remember, if he has more than one name, just put it in quotation marks and it should recognize the character.

Ya know, it's sorta weird that they permit you to build practically unlimited buildings, give your characters superhuman traits (or a vast number of any trait you want) and have all the money in the world... but they removed the single piece that made it complete. I honestly think they were just pulling our legs with that. :p

A few more questions since it's still not working:

What about characters with only one name?

"Trait name", do you mean like Command, management, etc.?

Well, an example would be helpful.

Cheater

let me give you an example of how I normally do it.

give_trait Quintus RomanHero 5

What the above will do is give Quintus (the leader of the Roman Faction) the Roman Hero trait at the fifth level of it (the maximum I believe). I also noticed that you don't need quotation marks if the character only has one name.

Anyways, the trait names (and max level) can be found in only one surefire way... go to the data directory in your RTW directory and find the text file export_descr_character_traits.

This file has all the traits listed, the conditions, their effects, everything. You can even modify them if you want to create a 'super trait', but make sure you know what you're doing first... it's not hard to do, but you'd want to make sure that the enemy nations' characters' can't get their hands on it by accident.

Alright thanks! It worked, I've been looking for a cheat that increases the "Influence" level, are there any?

Omanes Alexandrapolites

Sorry Shogun, but there is not individual cheat for that purpose.

To boost a character's influence you need to use the mentioned cheat to add relevant traits. As Cheater has said, you can usually find a list of such traits and their effects in either:
"C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\export_descr_character_traits.txt"
should you have Gold or:
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\data\export_descr_character_traits.txt"
should you have a standard version - not Gold.

The directory may vary should you have installed the game in a custom directory. If this is the case, you may need to locate it using the Windows search function.

hey that's cool *trying it*

So is there no way to recruit quickly. I seem to think there is a cheat something like add_unit "settlement name" exp level or something

The correct code is - create_unit "settlement/character name" "unit ID" 5 (units max) 8 (offense max) 8 (defense max) 8 (experience points max)

so it would look like this >> create_unit "Arretium" "roman arcani" 5 8 8 8

I use this cheat sometimes when I do not want to lose a city that is important .. I'll use this cheat and when the enemy attacks they will face full stack of defenders instead of just 1 unit :beam:

I know it is cheating but sometimes you can't to afford to lose a settelmen :embarassed:

The downside is that laer in the campaign map you have to pay to all those men that you've created useing "magic" :dizzy2:

I've tried this cheat, but it only seems to work (in Rome 1.5) with the arcani, and in only a few cities,at that. I can't seem to get to work with any other units.

Does anyone know how to get the "give_ancillary" cheat to work?I am lead to believe that its one of the many cheats which fail to work correctly. If it does work, however, it will be in the same format as the "give_trait" cheat:
"give_ancillary [first name]_[last name] [ancillary name]"

Good luck ~:)

A question about that, do we have to pick out the ancillary names from the files or do we just write it down as it is in the game, like: "Philosopher" or "Drillmaster."

It would be easier if it was named in the way it was on screen, but sadly the console commands were more designed for modders than players.

I use this cheat code:toggle_fow. What I don't understand is why you cannot see army compositions worldwide. I mean there is no fog of war. ie you have a clear line of sight. No reason why you cannot see troops.

I find this thread shameful. You dimish the gameplay experience when you cheat. RTW is most fun, when you find yourself on the brink of destruction and domination. Of course, this is coming from someone who's never cheated before in RTW, so maybe I really am missing out on something.

Omanes Alexandrapolites

There are some rare occasions when cheats can actually add to the difficulty of the game. Adding money to beleaguered factions can help them rise up against you, while subtracting money from yourself can give you a tricky financial situation.

I don't think there are many other cheats which can provide benefits to your foes though. I think there may be an add unit cheat which allow the player to give other factions troops, but beyond that I'm not really sure.

It's a point of view thing. I enjoy a challenge, but not the kind where an enemy hastati can plow through my hoplites from the front of the phalanx. And not when the Dacians, or the Gauls send full stacks every other turn.

And cheat codes might actually enhance a game experience. For example, having a treasury over 50000d will make your family members corrupt, but maybe you want to save that money for bribery or something. So to represent money being hoarded away, I might use subtract, say, 20000d off my surplus, keep track, and put that money back into the game when it's needed. It just doesn't make sense for a guy who has a 'firm personal morality' to suddenly get described as 'when money flows through his hands, some sticks to his hands'.

I've never tried the cheat codes for RTW though, mostly because I think most of them don't work for my version. For some reason.

For RTW Barbarian Invasion, i want to use the create_unit cheat but it need a specific unit ID, where can i find it?

Please Help

Quirinus
04-07-2009, 13:44
I've never actually used the create_unit cheat, but I think the "specific unit ID" the game is asking for is in the export_descr_unit.txt file-- for example the unit ID for the Comitatenses First Cohort is "comitatenses_first_cohort". Hopefully this helps, my BI is broken at the moment so I can't verify for you.

Ibn-Khaldun

Actually, Unit ID for a Comiataneses first Cohort would be "comitatenses first cohort" without _ marks

I bolded out the internal unit name that is needed for unit creation.

Ohh.. BTW the give_ancillary cheat worke constantly.. you just need to make the console forget it being used..
I.e.
give_ancillary "Tiberius Brutus" "merchant" 1

THEN USE THE Give Trait Cheat A MINIMUM OF 10 TIMES
I.e.
give_trait "Tiberius Brutus" "GoodTrader" 3
give_trait "Tiberius Brutus" "FoodAdministrator" 3
And So On..
10 Times..
Then you can Re Enter a new Ancillary..
I.e.
give_ancillary "Tiberius Brutus" "grain_merchant" 1

Piece of cake:idea2::laugh4:..

Welcome aboard Wolfie,

The names of the characters you start with as well as a description of their skills and personality traits is defined in the file descr-strat located here --> C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign. As far as I know, those ARE their real names as the game sees them. If you're intending to edit their names I would be careful as there is probably a cross-reference table somewhere that this file uses with the names repeated there. I would ask one of our serious experts in game editing for advice before proceeding. There is likely someone within the guild who has already done this and left advisory notes posted on this website. So you might want to nose around the Guild website a bit as someone has likely done this before.
