View Full Version : Praying for Good Health and a Long Life
My king died at 90! (he had 6 sons and 8 daughters)
his heir was 68, and HE just died at the ripe old age of 75, - without producing any children.
the "spare heir" is 74!
now when the spare became king the other four sons were disinherited, and are now mere generals,
but the spare came with a complete set of his own heirs! (2 sons, 4 daughters)
the only problem i now face is the eldest son is 10 years old!
So my king now has to last six more years...
I'm just going to pop down to the apothocary to see if can get him a health tonic...
So at least we know that the spare heir is developing his own dynasty in the background
- providing he's married of course...

And they call this time period the "Middle" Ages?
If I recall, my kings have only lived to the mid-60's. What country does your king come from? It seems to have a good climate for a long life. That country may have to be my next conquest. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

The only absolute is that there are no absolutes.
I clicked end turn once and I got the message that the king died followed a few messages later by your king's wife has given birth to a daughter. Since it was in the space of one year, I'm assuming that's how he died. At least he died happy.
what country,
um,
ah,
welllll..
Sicily!
Playing as Sicily has a couple of minor Bugs,
you can't keep your King IN Sicily for example or your Princesses are not placed on the strategy map,
But their capacity for establishing a trading empire is Huuuge!
I usually kill off my kings when they get to the age of about 65. And if the prime heir isn't a top general or something I kill him off at around 50.
I try to keep my prime heir a fairly young fellow, and of course I try to bring the best heirs forward in the line. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Thats one of my favorites, too:
selective breeding programs for kings.
Now if just these heirs wouldn't be so hard to kill by assassin (at least some of them are hard). I really do not like sending a full unit of royal knights to their doom ...
But I will have Inquisitors in the next few turns ... Anyone can borrow me a match ?? *g*
Inquistors? How Barbaric!!! I just send them into glorious battle by themselves. I tell them beforehand that Valhalla is for christians too.

how do you tell which is the 'prime heir'? is it just whichever son is born first?
K.

For me it is the oldest heir.
I kill the bad heirs by sending them into combat under the command of a better general. I don't actually try to kill them I just take much more risks with them, such as taking on the enemy general/king/heir or attacking the strong units from the side. Simply treating them as they were normal men.

Well the "new" king died before his son came of age, and a civil war erupted,
i let the 2 "rebel" provinces go and bribed one of them back a few turns later, and fought tooth and nail for all my other provinces,
so i never had any buildings destroyed - just a massively pruned army!
then i tried to bribe back the last province that went rebel - i got CTD at the end of the turn turn!
i tried "stepping" back through previous saves, and every time i got to the same year CTD (wether i tried bribing that army or not!),
finally i loaded the turn before the "new" King died, and he never died, and i have gone way past the CTD year...i wonder what happened?
something to do with the high tech province that rebelled i think, perhaps the rebel AI could not figure out what to do, the province was a shipbuilder!
The same year my "new" kings heir came of age the "new" king died,
his heir was just more prolific then grandaddy,
six sons and about 12 daughters - all my good generals and govenors are happy men!
what worries me is i am rapdly running out of generals and governeors to marry my pincesses off to...
(i have seven provinces and a small high tech army.)
I have fended off massive invasions and most of my generals are now fours and fives, before i add region and building titles!
what am i going to do with the next batch?
Hmm... Odd CTD.
Just send the princesses out and try to marry them off, you get to see a little bit of the enemy internal lands. Just drop her on an Emmi and she will go to the king herself.

At the risk of sounding dumber than I usually am, I have to ask what "CTD" means. I see it used often, but I can't associate it with anything.

odd CDT indeed,
just had it happen again, went back five years and successfully played past whatever event triggered the latest one...
Perhaps it has to do with Almohad and Egypt, they have both been stalled for well over 50 years now, Egypt and Almo' have not gained or lost a province in all that time,
they skirmish - but nothing ever changes hands,
Both spend an awful long time making decisions at the roll-over!
(sometimes almost a minute each!)
Byantium on the other hand is a juggernaut!!
-
Maybe Byzantium has so many decisions it is hanging?
-
but the display down the bottom is stalling on Almohad or Egypt??
whatever "event" caused the CTD, going back a few years allowed me to play past it...

and i just had a nother dynastic disaster,
this time the "spare" heir again already had children, but he was NOT married - he got married as soon as he became king, the french obliging sent over a sweet little maid for him (complete with costume)
and they started producing MORE heirs...
these Sicilians, they certainly are enthusiastic about ensuring the survival of the family line,
I have scarcely a general who is NOT "of royal blood", even if they were disinherited a few generations back...
and the rules about marrying cousins don't apply either - who do you think i am marrying the princesses off to?
>> the last generations disinherited sons of course!!
( which makes them second cousins, but these are commonly called neices anyway... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif )
I have an entire army of dirty old men married to their neices

Um, i think there is a known bug where the King's brothers remain as Princes when the King dies and his son takes over. And they remain as Princes up until the son has his first heir i think!?
Not sure whether this is related to any of the funny things going on here or what, but i just thought i'd mention it anyway. This appeared up on one of ECS's bugs fixed list.
EDIT:
here's the thread: http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001695.html
Actually it states that the brothers remain as Princes only if the son has come of age yet!? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
