View Full Version : Revolt to Eleutheroi, would you??!!??
Howdy all,
Perhaps foolishly, in my Romani campaign I have been trying to subdue a couple of far-flung Qarthadast provinces in Africa by controlling the towns of Tuat (SW of Qart-Hadast) and Sala (S of Gader, in western Mauritania). While I am able to take control of the cities, they (not surprisingly) soon riot and then revolt -- but back to the Qarthadast, and not to Eleutheroi as I expected and intended. In one instance I purposely abandoned Tuat after destroying most of the structures, but it still reverted to Qarthadast rule.
Is there any way I can nudge a settlement to revolt to the Eleutheroi instead of the faction that most recently conquered it? Is this a silly question?

Maybe you have to erase all the building that are carthaginian or replace them with roman ones

If you upgrade a town in size, it will default revolt to you, so if it revolts from you it will always go to the rebels. Anything short of that, it seems to be random wether it goes to a faction or the rebels.

Kill those damn punic bastards!!! I'm guessing if carthage is dead they can't come back.
I had the same problem with the Sweboz in a campaign long ago. I ended up having to destroy the faction completely before letting all useless settlements rebel. By that time they were pretty much Romanized anyway so I ended up keeping many more than I had planned.
I believe it has also something to do with the faction_creator thing, in descr_strat.
Thanks to all for your replies...
Marcus: Interesting...both Sala and Tuat have revolted within 1 - 1.5 years, so I didn't have much of a chance to do anything other than enslave the populace, install a Type IV government, and try to put in as many local troops as possible to quell at least some of the unrest...in this case, Numidians. I was a long ways away from upgrading the town! If this is a random process as you say, I'm 0 for 3 as I captured Tuat twice and had a Qarthadast revolt both times.
So, as you describe, Hegix, I'm abandoning my thoughts of conquest of these two towns and instead focusing on eliminating "those Punic bastards" (right on, Livius!) and letting fate take care of their fate.

In answer to the original question, you can get cities to go to eleutheroi by taking a city that will already rebel to faction A (already has too), and then making its unrest go to near zero. After a turn or two and it will rebel to eleutheroi, and all you need are some assassins and good spies.
If you have just taken a city from an enemy, high chances are that the culture will make it rebel back to them. So I don't think there's anything you can do about that. If you want to take an enemy city, sack it, and then make sure it is eleutheroi so that it doesn't bother you, then you will have to let it rebel to the original faction, send in spies, and there you go. Of course, if you exterminate or enslave the population, it will be much harder to make it revolt with spies.
In difficult, far-flung provinces, it's almost absolutely essential to use your most influential family members in order to control the initial unrest... additionally, load him up with as many unrest-reducing ancillaries as possible (schools and theaters seem to be the best for those).
