Well l know your problem man. I didn't faced in multiplayer t hough. When l had the demo and l was making maps there were times when the map is wrongly made thus enabling the two(or more sides) to start very close. It happend to me when l was testing the map with some fights with the AI. It began right away. When your men are attacked and no in hold formation they engage with that unit. Your enemy didn't cheated l think cause his men which were near him engaged without your enemy doing a thing.

Not a Cheat!!
That can happend when you setup a unit near the border to the enemy...some maps allows to setup units of both sides on the same spot..bug buggely bugs dont we love them http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif
Even happens some times that shooters start to shoot before pressing "start".

Never had that happened to me. It's a bitch though. Just on the basis of consistency I've edited the name out of the post. See all the other threads on the cheating issues for the reasoning.

It's not a bug, it's a feature

now this is one that I have run into quite a few times as i deploy alot on the front line. what happens is your unit and the enemy's unit OVERLAP and they will start fighting remember that just because you can not see them yet the computer is still thinking they are there because they are placed already set by your opponet best thing to do is to HURRY press the start button and have a blood bath. This is not a cheat it is just something happens when both sides are bloodthirsty http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif But now you done gave away how you start up hehe (KNow your enemy) hehe i love these boards http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif such a wealth of knowlage to be gained within....

the deploy zones at least for attackers are ridiculous

good point Magy. the defender should have a much wider choice as to where they deploy -- they, in theory, are already in the province. The attacker, on the otherhand, should be much more restricted and closer to the edge.

Of course you can thro that out if u buy the idea that it was a suprise attack, catching the defender unaware and forcing them into unfavorable ground...

All of which means, I'm not sure which way I fall on the issue. ;-)

** However, I never knew about this overlapping deployment affect ... I've heard of gunners "going off" but wasn't sure what to make of it. Thanks for the tip on this!

Yep! Happened to me at the start of a campaign battle in Hida.

I was deploying my troops on the big wooded hill and suddenly noticed that a unit of my archers was getting manked.

However, I worked out what was happening and quickly moved them replacing them with two units of Warrior Monks. I waited till the fighting subsided and then moved the monks out and the archers back.

When I finally pressed the start button my archer unit was surrounded by the remnants of an enemy unit of Horse Archers.

Cheap victory or what?

Never had this experience, but I'll keep an eye out.

I used to get quite worried in multiplayer games when units seemd to move on their own, and occasionally wonder what gets into some units, but I thik it is just the aoutomatic sorting the program does when units are too close. Although this isn't done in the best way at times.
