Thanks heaps for designing such a fantastic mod!

Can someone please answer the following game mechanics questions:

1. Is there any bonus/penalties associated with having heavy vs light weapons?
2. If you have attacked an enemy unit with two units (one from the front, one from behind) is the enemy more likely to break if you stronger unit is attacking from the rear (or vica versa) or does it make no difference?
3. Are the units that intimidate the enemy (such as chariots, naked soliders etc) effect's cumulative:
a) if the enemy is next to a chariot plus a regiment of naked soliders are they "more intimidated" than if they are just next to a chariot?
b) if they are next to two units of naked soliders are they more intimidated than if they are just next to one?
c) if they are engaged in hand to hand (rather than merely being close) on an intimidating enemy does this have a greater effect?
d) if they are fighting an intimidating enemy to the rear are they more intimidated than if they are fighting the enemy is at the front?
4. likewise are bonuses for inspiring friendly troops culmulative?
5. what stat determines the protection that a unit has against missles (is it defence, armour or both)? Does this change depending what missle type is used (i.e. arrows vs slings)?
6. what stat determines the protection that a unit has against javelins?
7. when I charge the rear of a phalanx and connect the computer allows the enemy soliders to about face and then place themselves at spear's length to my soldiers (which would not be possible in real life, at least not for the first couple of ranks). Can this be avoided?
8. if I surround a phalanax often all the enemy will be facing in one direction (and so I will have a unit attacking the enemy's backs whilst they are wielding massive pikes). In real life I would expect under these circumstances for the phalanx to rapidly collapse/the enemy soliders to die rapidly (I can't see how they could defend themselves in this situation even against the most poorly armed soldiers) but this does not happen. Is this something that I can address?

Thanks heaps in advance for the guidance.

1. afaik "deaths" from heavy weapons are more difficult to recover (less healed units if the battle is won)
2. if the unit on the rear kills faster (higher lethality, higher attack or AP weapons or a combination of those) than the unit on the front, yes (less men, more morale problems)
3 & 4. don't know
5 armour and shield, arrows and slings don't make a difference (the shield bonus is depending on the positions of the unit that is firing: 100% on front, 0% on rear, and afaik 50% on flanks)
6 the same as above, armour and shield
7 I think not. Usually I attack phalanxs on flanks when already engaged on front
8 see above

Its higher on the left side since that's where the shield is.

Interesting..
I heard only that 100% front and left in melee, and 200% front and left against missiles, always, so far...

1- don't know about recovering casualities, but heavy light etc weapon types are used for upgrading so shouldn't affect combat.

2. I always use the unit with the highest defense to pin the enemy from the front, and flank with whatever has the highest attack, highest lethality, and ap ability...In my KH campaign, for example, I'd hold with heavy inf (usually hoplitai) and flank with Rhomphaiaphoroi. The hoplites can hold all day and the Rhomphaiaphoroi will cut the enemy flanks to pieces.

If you don't have two handed units with high attack, lethality, and ap rating, I find it best to use light, javelin armed infantry (like peltasti) as flankers. A few rounds of javelins up the arse will rout just about anything. In addition, peltasts are also fair in melee. Thracian peltasts are especially good for this duty as they have ap melee weapons.
