View Full Version : Another Grand Campaign Hotseat
Hey everyone. I've been hoping to start one of these, and some interest has been showed in the poll thread, so this is the official sign-up/OOC thread for my Grand Campaign hotseat.
Here are the factions, and their players if assigned.

Holy Roman Empire -
Spain-
Venice- Zim
Byzantine Empire-
Hungary-Cheetah

Russia-

This will be version 1.3, and an admin enabled game. I'll have a longish list of rules in a bit, culled from the other hotseats (including mine :clown: ).

Can't have too many hotseats!
:2thumbsup:
I will take Hungary, though it will be difficult. But I am used to it!!! :2thumbsup:

I've played Egypt a bit, but as with Poland in the first MPC I've never taken her all the way through the game. Should be interesting.
Now, where should me and the Turk draw the line, eh?
:egypt:
Well, Ramses, I think that depends on whether anyone plays Turkey or not. Although I think I know someone who will want to. :2thumbsup:
 It's nice to see a Muslim faction and so many smaller factions being taken in this one.
Hey guys, I'll probably make some kind of thread where IC public diplomacy can be done. Would you like it to be somewhat like my Britannia game one? Any ideas are welcome.
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=96274
Sure, both the council and the salon is a great idea!!!
Also, the papal states should be kept as AI, IMO it would be too powerful in human hands.
Privateerkev
12-19-2007, 22:06
I agree with a council and salon. IMHO they really add to the game.
And I agree that the papacy should be AI controlled.
:dizzy2: Did I put the Papacy on the list? I can't find them there.
Ok, as soon as we have more players I'll make those threads. I just wanted to make sure that a Council, even a powerless one, didn't stretch believability too much for anyone. I think it adds a lot to my Britannia game, and will do so here as well.

I'll be Portugal, but give this a more creative name! I'll try to be more prompt than I usually am. I don't think it will be too much.
Sounds good, gibsonsg91921. If you have an idea for a name for the hotseat, tell me and I'll get a mod to change the title of the thread (or just have this one closed and start one there).

I think we should call it The Inevitable Rise of Egypt.
Or maybe Holy Hegemony: Europe under the Heirs of Ptolemy and Muhammed.

Medieval 2 Total Diplomacy...
:clown:
Obviously a vote is in order. There are 12 hours left to pick a name for this game.
Contestants:
-The Inevitable Rise of Egypt
-Holy Hegemony: Europe under the Heirs of Ptolemy and Muhammed
-Medieval 2 Total Diplomacy
-Insert snappy title here
-we don't need a title. we just kill things
-3D: Deguerra's Danish Domination
-The Rising Storm
-MTW2: The Fruit Wars
-Medieval 2: Total Agriculture
-We're nerdy, even for the Throne Room
Possibly serious choices to come later.

Insatiable Storm, something to do with a metaphor for conflict like storm, or something

How about: "Oh my God, not another Hotseat..."
Or, "Insert snappy title here"
Or, "we don't need a title. we just kill things."
Or, "Proof that nerds, the internet, and too much free time can produce frightening results."
Or, "when you need something to do while your waiting for your other Hotseat savegame to come up..."

"We're nerdy, even for the Throne Room"
2 of yours were too long, PK, so I cut them. And that last one mostly applies to the two of us, since we're in the largest number of these things. :clown:

Do not underestimate the nerdiness of the Throne Room.
That is both my reply and another nominee for a title.
If any potential new players are reading this, we still have lots of openings. In particular, we have a big vacuum in Central/Western Europe that a strong French or HRE player could easily fill.
More Muslim factions are also particularly welcome.

Yes we are serious, says the grown men who pretend they are medieval Kings in a computer game.
Yet another statement that is both a reply and a nominee for game title.
Too long again, PK. One more like that and your choices for title will be stricken. :clown:

It's cool if you strike mine. I am not too attached to any of them. It doesn't really matter what the game is called anyways. :beam:

Nerds in Force, Fighting Each Other
That's it, away they go.
Ok, if we actually are going to change the name, we need something that will not scare away people unused to how wierd we are. :clown:
I don't really care, either, but gibsonsg91921 suggested that we come up with a better name. :clown:

The Night of the Broken Glasses.
Perhaps a bit untasteful, as it parodies a seriously tragic event.

The only reason I suggested another name was so it would be more recognizable to posterity, like Will of the Senate, King of the Romans, The Frozen Crusade, (almost) Magna Carta.
C'mon guys, at least wait until we fill another couple of slots before spamming up the thread. :sweatdrop:
If you or anyone else can think of something, gibsonsg91921, I'll be glad to change it.
Ramses II CP

MPC2 is most practical and easily understood. Alternately just Grand Campaign Hotseat 2 would be descriptive as well. Remember, at the rate these things move none of us may still be here when it finishes so we want a title that communicates. :laugh4:

All my joking aside, and I was just having fun, I like Ramses's MPC2. It would be a good savegame title too.
Ok, I think we should either go with something practical like Ramses said (second choice seems best. Too close to the name of the first one and it may confuse people), or something recognizable in the way gibsonsg91921 suggested.
Ignoramus

I'll take the Scots.

Grand Campaign Hotseat 2 would be cool too. Naming it something "memorable" is problematic. All of the examples Gibson mentioned are about 1 faction. If you try to name a game with multiple factions, it might be hard to find a neutral, yet snappy name that all would find agreeable.
The titles about Egypt or Denmark, while funny, do not adequately showcase the vastness of the M2TW universe.
Welcome aboard, Ignoramus. :2thumbsup:
I think PK and Ramses are right.
"Grand Campaign Hotseat 2" is descriptive, and not so close to the other one as to make so a lot of similiar sounding saves will be floating around the filespace.

maybe not the CURRENT m2tw universe :viking:
(i should probably add that I am NOT at all an agresive player and this is only in good fun. no need to be crushing the danes to preempt an attack :clown: )

The only reason I suggested another name was so it would be more recognizable to posterity, like Will of the Senate, King of the Romans, The Frozen Crusade, (almost) Magna Carta.
Also, I would argue that it would be more recognizable to posterity if a hotseat game was actually finished, than any snappy title we could come up with.
^_^
Ok guys, how's this for a new title and intro. Too cheesy?
Grand Campaign Hotseat 2 would be the name used for saves (something like GCH, with a numbering system like for the hotseat games).
Grand Campaign Hotseat 2: The Rising Storm
The year is 1080 A.D. After centuries of fighting to expand, strong powers are coaslescing in Europe, North Africa, and Asia. For any one of these power to become dominant, others must be destroyed. Religious and secular conflicts are driving some together and far more apart. Rumors of war are arising all over the region, and it is only a matter before it is caught up in a tide of Total War.

May I suggest that there should be a rule to play your turn within 24 hours (max 36) before your turn is skipped? We should keep a list of all player passwords in the first post so that can be done easily.
Skipping means you don't do anything for the faction and don't accept diplomacy unless it has been agreed on in a diplomacy thread beforehand.
What the MPC is suffering from the most is people taking more than a week to play their turn at times even if they are online constantly. I got the habit of making sure everyone gets a PM now if its their turn, but some still don't play in a reasonable amount of time. I won't call anyone's name though, but you know who you are!!!
As for faction...I assume we will be autoresolving all battles right? I'll take Poland in that case.
I'm working on the rules, but they will be similiar to my other hotseat game. I was thinking 48 hours was a good length of time to play a turn.
All battles will be autoresolved and Poland is fine.
gibsonsg91921
12-20-2007, 00:37
Yeah, we're autoresolving it. Do we want to spice this up by making certain factions start off at war with each other? That could take away some of the vanilla coolness, but it could also be fun and get to action quicker.
gibsonsg91921,
I don't think we should force anyone into it, but if they want to declare war in the Council before the game starts, that's fine.
Forgot to mention, I will need passwords pmed to me. I'll make a list here at home so it's not public.
FH, I'll be collecting passwords, but if worst comes to worst, with the admin function enabled I can change people's passwords and skip their turn.

Before you officially start the game, you get another PM discussion with me
Btw, 48 hours is too much IMO. A MPC turn never took me longer than 8 minutes so far. Strat map usually is fairly quick and as battles are autoresolved (and I assume we play with no reloading), those take less than a minute overall. 36 seems a decent compromise really and any more will slow the game down and make people lose interest (as you need to consider we will have some 10 players and thus 360 hours -> 15 days to get through a single turn maximally). 24 would really be optimal and we could have players designate a proxy who they would trust to play their turn if unavailable..
Hmmm, maybe that would be too long. During the Holidays I expect a slowdown, but after a 36 hour limit might be reasonable, especially if we can set out some subs beforehand. I tak about 5-10 minutes per turn myself, but some people seem to take much longer.
I want to wait a bit to see if more players are coming, sio there's plenty of time for suggestions about rules before we start.
I started a thread with the new name and intro for the game, let's move this over there.
Mods, feel free to close this thread.
