If my ally attacks a neutral army in the vicinity of my army, shouldn't they ask me if I want to join the fight? When it happened, I wasn't asked, but I think I remember once I saw the screen with the options to join or refuse to help ~

Don't get me wrong, I knew what was coming. That's why I put my army there in the first place. But still it would be nice if they asked me politely ~D

Rarely you get a message during the AI turn where they ask you for help (and usually accepting led to my game crashing).

As for generally helping them against a neutral faction, I'm not sure, but you can choose to withdraw from battle pre-combat. That at least keeps you out of the fight. I don't quite remember if it lets you stay neutral too though.

Even if you withdraw, you are at war.

No Then you are off the hook.

normally, it counts as a declaration of war on you by the neutral faction. If your 're-enforcing' your ally (in the message pop-up where they ask for your help), then you count as the aggressor, unless you reject it, then no war is declared. At least thats how i understand it.

That's right, the only thing is, there was no pop-up message, only the battle deployment screen...

I tried reloading from the point before the battle, and even if I withdrew, the war starts

That is weird! I have never had that happen to me.

I will usually only get the deployment screen also. But if I withdraw then there is no war.:inquisitive:

I don't know what to make of it.

Maybe if the neutral faction attacks your ally, while you're nearby, you can withdraw without going into war.
In my case it was my ally who attacked (they sallied from besieged town), probably encouraged by my presence.

Ah! There is a difference.

I have never had that situation before. If your friends attack a neutral you can withdraw without a war. If they are sallying that could be the difference...Hay that is when they need the help most. I just never have had the situation.

I don't have allies, only victims.
