Here's a thread to collect the crazy campaign promises sure to start coming out now that we're almost at the beginnings of the primaries in the US. Although I'm starting this with US politics, I want all people to feel free to include crazy campaign promises from their respective countries.

To kick it off, Hillary's inane and illogical promise regarding oil prices:

The single most insane, outrageous thing I've yet heard came in one of the first couple of Republican debates, Mitt Romney's "I'd double Gitmo!"

This puts him at odds with everyone, including President Bush, who has stated that he would like to close Guantanamo. A very strange promise indeed.

Here in Portugal every time there is an election for the Portuguese Presidency there is always a comedian/musician that says he´s gonna run if he can gather enough signatures (you need 7500 signatures to run)....he once actually got enough but they drummed up some bs technicality to stop him from getting on the ballot :furious3:

I sure as hell would vote for him....at least with him he´s honest about the fact he´s lying with every teeth in his mouth :laugh4:

NuLab promised a referendum on the EU constitution amending treaty. Then, when they got in, they stuck two digits up at the electorate. Who says that power corrupts?

Then our Great Leader hides in a broom cupboard somewhere, while the heads of the rest of the EU countries troop in and sign the EU constitution amending treaty.

He even left his foreign secretary adrift so that he had to shake hands with a butler, as he was alone on the podium.
