Hello all!

I was thinking about what a pity it is that it isn't possible to hire hussites the other day. And then a thought occured to me: maybe one could try to bride a group of rebels to join your army with a high-level diplomat. I haven't seen them much around in my lates game, so I haven't had the chance to try. Therefore I thought I might ask you.

Anyone tried this tactic? Any other slave/rebel unit for that matter.

I have had very poor luck bribing rebel units or cities after the first few turns. My theory is that you actually have a 'relations' state with the rebels as a whole, which rapidly goes to abysmal and stays there the whole game as all you can do to rebels is butcher them. Maybe if you played on the easiest difficulty, where relations normalize quickly, you'd have more luck.

In fact, now that I think of it, I don't believe I've ever successfully bribed a rebel unit, but I'm pretty sure I've bribed rebel towns at the start of the game.

You can bride rebel units all you want, but there are two major drawbacks:

1. It gets very expensive. You might be able to get a couple of units cheaply, but a half-stack of crap 'rebels' (guys that spawned and didn't desert another faction) could cost you upwards of 20,000.

2. They generally don't join your faction - usually you're bribing them to disband. It depends on what type of unit, what province it's in and whether you can train that type of unit or not.

Really, why spend all that money and effort when you can just kill them?

Anonymous, you can quite literally hire hussites. They are mercenaries that are available in the middle and later part of the game. You just won't be able to bribe them into your army.

That is wrong. You cannot hire Hussites as mercenaries in vanilla, and you cannot bribe them into your force as they are slave faction only.

You could of course mod your files to make Hussites available for your faction and others and therefore hirable/bribable.

Then you probably have missed the point here. The point is to get an unhireable unit to join my ranks, so I can use them in battles.

Anyways, now it seems, according to FactionHeir, that this is impossible with hussites.

And no, I don't want to mod. my files in order to "unlock" them. Part of the fun would have been to achieve the difficult task of aquire them. I don't want them if I have to make them "just another unit".

Well, you can mod it and make it difficult.
The most vanilla type way would be to add ownership of your faction to the unit and create the respectively graphics files so it actually shows up for your faction in the first place.
Then you make them NON-hirable.

However, as your faction is then listed as possible owner, you can bribe rebel units that have hussites in them and thus have them as part of your army (and you cannot retrain them etc)

The Hussites were a fanatical religious group so I don't think bribing them makes any sense - they weren't mere mercenaries.

Disclaimer: I use the word 'fanatical' in its literal sense "marked by excessive enthusiasm for and intense devotion to a cause or idea" and not in any negative connotations it may carry in modern times.

Not that it wouldn't be nice to have a stack of them

FH, are you sure that they aren't available to hire? I'm sure I've seen them before (they're like pavise crossbowman, but only available in the southern german states). Maybe they're in 1.2/1.3 or the Teutonic campaign?

I hope they are not available "in southern german states". Besides being "heretic" they were Czech nationalists and fought against the Germans, that would be something if HRE could recruit them as mercenaries.

Absolutely sure.
Check your descr_mercenaries.txt file (in your imperial_campaign folder)

I must be thinking of something else then.

Igor, by "german" I meant HRE and being more specific, I was thinking Prague and Nuremburg.
