Don't know if this has been mentioned or not. But as spanish, bribe the rebels on your right on the first turn. The leader of that rebel army is El Cid http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

he's only averge though because only 4 command(which i think should be alot higher), well, at least he got +2 command when attacking

In my Elmo campaign (a big win *yawn*) I bribed him and made him a good moslem. Then I gave him a bunch of titles-- Poobah of the Hareem, Master of the Camels, whatever, and he eventually became the scourge of Christendom. Level 8 (nine on attack). Ripped up some infidels, I'll tell ya'. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

The Byzantines in the Early campaign are blessed with LOTS of lv6-8 heirs. From what I've seen so far, they have the most gifted heirs in terms of leading troops into battle.

In my current Spanish campaign, I made El Cid my Chancellor and married a daughter to him. He has just single handedly eliminated the Elmoheads and Egyptians. Now I'm using him as my "tip of the spear" in my drive on the Byzantines. He is currently in Armenia, drove the Byzantine general into his castle even though he was out numbered 3-1. The Byzantines counter attacked the next year to break the seige and good old Cid slaughtered them against about 3-1 odds again. El Cid is up to level 9 now.

Say, does El Cid look anything like Charlton Heston?

I have never really paid much attention to generals.

I see this is a part of the game I am missing out on http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I shall take a good luck over the weekend

Yep, El Cid is kind of the Lord Bouillon of the spanish but you have to pay for him.
The Spanish, like the Bizantine which i havent't played, have good dinasties, pumping out high valor and high command heirs, but picking a general like El Cid and building him up to 9 command can be quite engaging.
