View Full Version : Compatability with RTR?

Hi everyone.

This mod seems really interesting. However, I already have the Rome: Total Realism mod on my computer. I know that with certain other games, such as Europa Universalis III (by Paradox Interactive) give the ability to have multiple mods downloaded, and gives you a list when you start the game to let you choose which mod you want to play. Can I do that if I download EB? Or will I have to remove RTR to play EB? :help:

RTW games have the ability to have multiple mods on at once with the 'mod switch' folders. EB is entirely in a mod folder. Very few mods are in the mod folder, though, and EB may experience problems when it tries to reference vanilla files that have been saved over by a different mod.

I don't recall what RTR has, but I do not believe the official version is in the mod folder.

One more question if it is alright. I didn't see this in the FAQ and I didn't see any mention of it on the web page:
At what date does EB end?

The game goes from 272BC to AD14.
Since there are four turns per year that is a very long time and I don't believe anyone has made it to that date yet.

Now I don't know for sure; since I do not have RTR installed on my PC (I had once, but then my PC wasn't quite like what it is now - so the game refused to run battles period) -- and therefore I am not exactly up-to-date with the latest platform it uses.

In other words: find out for yourself.

Here's how:
EB 1.0 runs on RTW 1.5;
RTR from what I knew runs on RTW 1.2.

So if your release of RTR also runs on RTW 1.2 then it will not work with EB 1.0: the 'platform' does not match.

If, however, you run RTR on RTW 1.5 or later you should be able to install EB on top of that. (See the guide in the bugs&support forum if you do not know how to install EB.)

In any case: EB requires a clean RTW 1.5 install: anything below 1.5 will make the game not run; and anything above is not officially supported, but should work as well.

Clean means that you do not have anything that does not belong to standard RTW 1.5 inside the RTW 1.5 structure (excluding any data inside a so-called mod-folder: that is a folder named after the mod itself).

It is recommended to use a folder with a clean 1.5 build without any other mods installed, though. The reason is that other mods may not fully rely on their mod-folder, but replace a few other files in the main RTW structure. Nine times out of ten this should not make much difference; since EB uses hardly anything but the exe; dll-files and certain packs from aforementioned RTW structure. But it may cause weird bugs if both mods use the same element when one mod has replaced it with its own version.

If you are playing RTR Platinum, which I believe is contained in its own folder (the version I have is, anyway), you should not have any problems with EB. Just be warned in advance that the AI turns will be a bit slower than what you are used to, as EB is heavily scripted (necessary for the great features that are in the mod).

Yeah, Platinum uses 1.5 - but TIC is coming out in 3 days, so you might as well wait.

I came here because nothing new seemed to be happening with RTR gold (platinum was just the same with BI.exe). That was around 0.7something for EB. At the time I considered RTR's skins to be far better than EBs, but the EB gameplay was more involving. With the last two releases, EB has caught up on the skins department, but since RTR are finally releasing a new sub version (The Iberian Conflict) in three days, I'll have a look at that.

But not such a hard look that I abandon my Roman campaign, I'm an election shy of fulfilling the Marian reforms requirements, womething I've never acheived before without cheating. Time to chalk up that toga, Attilius Balbus!

We will be releasing RTR-TIC in a couple days. It is fully mod compatible and is for the BI 1.6 exe.

I have been beta testing TIC on the exact same install of RTW that I did beta testing of EB 1.0 on with no issues

Apples and Oranges is the official opinion.

That question can precipitate fairly pointless fights.
