welcome to my newest AAR..... with the Getai....
enjoy! :2thumbsup:
Chapter 1- The Fledgling Tribe
We are laughed at, but not for long. We are divided, but not for long as well. We are the Getai tribe, dwelling in the town of Buridava, our capitol city.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/beginnings.jpg
Our glorious leader of our tribe, Zalmodegikos per Buridava, hails from the Ordes sub-tribe, which used to dwell within our lands before they joined the Getai tribe.
They had a great tradition of war-like people, as well as traders with others, and Zalmodegikos per Buridava will, by the spirit of our gods, will prove to be a very good leader.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/factionleader-272.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ordeshistory.jpg
And not only is he from the Ordes tribe, so are his sons, the two other leaders in our tribe.
His eldest son, Oroles per Drobeta.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FH-272.jpg
And his youngest son, Dizo per Rekidava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FM3.jpg
Many wondered if it was wise to put a father in charge, and then put his two sons in charge as well, as it may bring bad things to happen, but our people wanted it, for those three are wise warriors, as well as good leaders, and that was how it should be.
Oh, forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Dizion per Drobeta, a member of our leaders bodyguard cavalry unit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bodyguards.jpg
I hope to serve with my leader with honor and courage. To serve him better, I am recording the history of our tribe from the spring of 272, the year according to the Makedonians, our enemy to be.
Forgive me once more! I have forgotten to tell you of our leaders’ mission in life! We are to unite the tribes of Dacia, where we dwell now, and Thraikia, where we will soon dwell. We will be also uniting with our brothers to the south, the Makedonians, but they have no honor for heritage! They parted from their Getai and Thraikioi origins and adopted more Hellenic ones! In our eyes, they are traitors, ones to be cut down with the swiftest of knives! But that isn’t the worst part: they have become numerous, and one of their ancestors is rumored to have conquered the world! They are a force to be reckoned with, and that is why we hate them and they hate us. They spread lies about us to the surrounding tribes, about how weak and how few in numbers we are. And the tribes laugh at us. But that will change. We will subdue the neighboring tribes, especially the Thraikioi, who retain their heritage and yet can fight in a terrifying way, unlike those Makedonians, who must retort to dirty Hellenic ways to fight. So we will conquer them, and make them, the Makedonians, pay for what they have done! And when we are through, the tribes will realize that, we, the Getai tribe, are the masters of all who we face.
EDIT: sorry if from now on the screens look a bit squished- s/t is still wrong with the screen.... sorry

Chapter 2- The Semi-Reforms
As we geared up for war, our leader, Zalmodegikos per Buridava, realized to have any chance of fighting the Makedonians and their armies with long, sharp sticks that, when used properly, could defeat an enemy thrice their number, was to adopt their style of fighting. But he wanted to retain our heritage, unlike those Makedonians who completely abandoned their old ways.
So he developed a unit based on the Hellenic phalanx, called the Getikoi Stratiotai, or Dacian Light Phalanx. These soldiers would fight in the phalanx formation, but still was equipped in the traditional Getai manner.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dacianlightphalanx.jpg
He also helped develop a heavier version of this phalanx, with more armor, called the Komatai Thorakitai Stratiotai, or the Dacian Heavy Phalanx.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dacianheavyphalanx.jpg
But they would just be a tool in the shed for our many victories to come. The real power in our forces lies in our ability of our skirmishers and their ability to maintain themselves as capable infantry of the line. First comes our first line of infantry- the Komatai- both capable skirmishers and decent warriors in hand-to-hand combat.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dacianskirms.jpg
They would be the unit that would fill the ranks for our early days of conquest, for they are cheap and very usable.
The next evolution is the elite of the Dacian skirmishers, armed with a deadly sword over two meters long, which could strike down almost any enemy, and is just as handy with the javelin as he is the sword. He is more armored than the regular skirmishers, as he has a bronze studded vest for more protection, and his sword is longer than the normal skirmishers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dacianeliteskirms.jpg
Then would come the elite of the elite. The much-dreaded Thraikioi Peltastai, or the Thraikian Skirmishers. These skirmishers are the descendants of the original skirmishers, and are very deadly. In addition, they, as well as the Komatai, are armed with the deadly rhompaia, a weapon that can cut through almost any kind of armor. This makes them even more vicious.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thracianskirms.jpg
You may ask, “Why is this so important? Why are heavily armed skirmishers so important in your armies, and not the phalanxes?”
Someone asked Zalmodegikos this exact question.
He replied, “The answer is simple. The type of wood which the Makedonians use to build their long pikes with are made from very strong wood that is exclusive to their areas, areas that we do not have access to, obviously. The wood we use is inferior quality, and if our pikes are the length of theirs, ours snaps very easily, like a twig. Therefore, we have to stick to shorter pikes. Because of this we cannot rely on our phalanxes to beat the enemy at their own game. We must use the phalanxes to hold the enemy in place, and as they throw themselves against our spears, our skirmishers, being as agile as they are, will circle around and devastate the enemy from the back with their javelins, and then charge in to engage them in hand-to-hand combat, as they have been trained to do. Thus, we will dominate our foes, even if they do have armies with longer pikes.”
So you see, we of the Getai tribe are famed for our ability to adapt, but not assimilate, as those treacherous Makedonians have done.
Meanwhile, we decided on the first tribe that we would bring under our control: the Crobyzi tribe, a Dacian tribe who also assimilated to more Hellenic ways, just as the Makedonians did. Their town, Kallatis, was lightly defended, so it would be good practice for our leader for upcoming battles.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kallatislocation.jpg
Their garrison composed of mostly Greek units, but there were some of our brothers in there, showing that that tribe still has some hope of keeping their heritage. But they will fall, whether they want to or not.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kallatisgarrison.jpg
Kallatis was governed a pure Hellen, named Sinis, who was able to convince the entire Crobyzi that the Hellen way was the better way. And for that, he will die- we will make sure of it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kallatisgovernor.jpg
But we had some unfinished business to take care of.
We sent out diplomat, Tarsa per Kallatis, to deal with it.
First, we had to make an alliance with Epeiros, the Makedonians sworn enemy. It looks like we found a friend, for the time being.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/allianccewitheperios.jpg
Then we had to declare a cease-fire with the Makedonians, to ensure that while we were uniting the tribes, they wouldn’t show up suddenly and make a mess of our hard work. Tarsa per Kallatis was able to achieve this, miraculously.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cease-firewithmaks.jpg
So now, we only had to worry about any roving rebel armies, but no standing armies of either Epeiros or the armies of the Makedonians. And for a short while, there was peace in our land.
EDIT: btw, has anyone seen a noticeable improvements in the graphics?

this is going to be an interesting AR for both the readers and me, since im going to be describing the campaign like a historian, but describe the battles like i (the bodyguard cavalry member) was there, which i was.... you will see soon what i mean.....

This looks to be challenging but fun...Thracian warriors are some of the finest in the world! Phillip and Alexander used them extensively. Wear them down with javelins and charge in screaming...may the best win.

Chapter 3- the battle for Kallatis
In the winter of 271, all our forces to take Kallatis were ready. In the following spring, Zalmodegikos per Buridava was to march out and start uniting the tribes. But he never got the chance. Two months before he was to march out, he became very ill, and died at the age of 62.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FLdies.jpg
His son, Oroles per Drobeta took over the throne, and he promised to finish his fathers mission of uniting the tribes.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newFL.jpg
Selected members of the bodyguard unit of Zalmodegikos was transferred over to the bodyguard unit of Oroles. I was one of them.
So Oroles per Drobeta took his fathers army in the spring of 270 and went to besiege Kallatis.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/armyforkallatis.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/beforethebridge.jpg
In the summer of 270, he reached Kallatis and promptly put it under siege.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/seigeofkallatis.jpg
And in the early autumn of 270, he assaulted Kallatis.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/assaultofkallatis.jpg
Our leader waited anxiously for his troops to get organized, for this was his first real battle. I was in my leaders row, second from his right.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FLatthebattle.jpg
Two units of Komatai Epilektoi pushed the two rams to the walls.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting.jpg
And while that was being done, our archers and slingers opened fire, in volleys so devastating, the enemy’s entire unit of archers were completely annihilated!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/arhcersfiring-1.jpg
Our rams started to ram the walls, and the enemy waited nervously behind their walls.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ramsramming.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemywaiting.jpg
Finally, when the walls were breached, and our Komatai charged in, came our brothers, heavily depleted from the devastating volleys of arrows and stones.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/brothersmarching.jpg
And with heavy hearts, we engaged them, brother versus brother.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/brotherversusbrother.jpg
Meanwhile, the enemy general charged his cavalry into our right flank, and a fierce battle started.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalryattacking.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalryattacking2.jpg
Finally, the enemy general surfaced and started to attempt to hack our men down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralattacking.jpg
On the other flank, our brothers were the first to flee.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/brothersfleeing.jpg
And were soon cut down, much to our sadness. Brothers died unnecessarily for a greedy and evil Hellen king.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/deadbrother.jpg
But replacing our dead brothers were Hellenic levies, and they tied our men up for a long time.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leftflanktiedup.jpg
On the right flank, the last few cavalry still fought on, with the help of the Hellenic skirmishers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastfewcavalry.jpg
And the battle raged on the left flank, but the enemy levies were wavering.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leftflankwavering.jpg
On the right flank, the enemy already routed. Only the enemy general and a few cavalry were left.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rightflankrouting.jpg
And soon the enemy general was dead, among the dead of his own men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead.jpg
We chased the enemy to their town square, where the last three cavalry units made a pathetic charge, along with their Hellenic skirmishers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/patheticcharge.jpg
Our Drapanai soon arrived and began to slaughter the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/drapanaikilling.jpg
As they were doing that, some Galatikoi Kluddolon came and began to deal with their last unit, a unit of Hellenic levies.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansarriving.jpg
We soon pushed hem back, and methodically killed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyplazasurrounded.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemypushedback.jpg
While this was going on, Oroles per Drobeta rode into the town.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/orolesmarchingin.jpg
As I rode along with him (I'm fourth from left), I surveyed the carnage. There were bodies everywhere, mostly Greek ones. Then we passed the bodies of our brothers. Oroles paused, said a prayer, and then rode on. We did the same.
At the plaza, the enemy only had a few men left.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastfewenemies.jpg
But soon they fell, and the town was ours! We have united our first tribe!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/celebration.jpg
When the body count was in, we were very surprised at how few men we lost. This is surly a sign of the gods!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results.jpg
When the town was secured, we learned two things:
One, there was a port for this town,
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kallatisport.jpg
And two, that this tribe was a tribe that was skilled at making very long, curved swords. Thus, we could now train the dreaded Thraikioi Rhomphaiaphoroi!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/elitethracianinfantry.jpg
With these, our armies will become almost unstoppable!
Our Vasil, as we now call Oroles per Drobeta, will be commissioning several units of these to help us unite our next tribe, which is yet to be decided.
btw, any noticeable improvements in the graphics?
I didn't know that the EB team had made changes to the Getai Capital. I thought it was still a little rinky dink town. Good update by the way:2thumbsup:

Chapter 4- A Request and a Rebuff
In the spring of 269, our Vasil made the journey to the next tribe, along with a handful of picked bodyguards (including me), that he would try to unite: the Triballi tribe, who resides in the town of Naissos.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/naissoslocation.jpg
This settlement was ruled by a Dacian chieftain, Diales, who was a stern ruler as well as pig-headed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/naissosgov.jpg
In addition, the tribe was inhabited by brothers, so we were very reluctant to kill any of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/naissosgarrison.jpg
They also had a couple units of the adept Taxeis Triballoi, which were very good at melee, and were exclusive to the Triballi tribe. Obtaining these soldiers will be very useful when it comes to assaulting walls.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/triballiinfantry.jpg
Not only that, the town was a major trading port for the Amber Route, which would bring us more trade and huge financial benefits.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/amberroute.jpg
So as you can see, taking this town was of utmost importance. But because they were brothers, we didn't want to take the town by force. When our Vasil, along with us, his faithful bodyguards, came into the town, we could sense that were weren’t welcomed here, judging by the sneers and insults thrown our way. When we arrived at the throne room of Diales, we became very alert, for we had no idea what would happen.
Our Vasil invited him to join us and help unite the tribes- a very simple request.
However, Diales got enraged and yelled at us, “How could you ask such a thing?! We have been independent for many years! Do you think we would join a confederation and simply give up our sovereignty?! I think not! Now leave before I kill you all, you Getai dogs, unworthy of honor! We Triballi are free, and will always be free!”
Seeing as there wasn’t much we could do anymore, we quickly left the town, and our Vasil quickly decided that we would take the town by force. There was no doubt about that.
I've never tried a barbarian campaign but ypu've just inspired me to do so :balloon2:
Great AAR.
Strange that you could go and conquer the coastal settlements without problems. When I play as Getai, if I don't quite immediately go north to fight back a roaming Eleutheroi army in the mountain province (which btw has a nice mine), then they'll conquer the starting Getai settlement while the army is away, and I'll be dead!:damnmate:
Hooahguy

actually, i did see that rebel army in the north, but it disappeared and just made a reappearance.... i think before i conquer Naissos, im going to deal with that army. :smg:

Chapter 5- The Battle for Naissos
In the spring of 268 Oroles per Drobeta’s army was completed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/OpDsarmyspring268.jpg
Oroles entered Thraikioi Hypertera, the name of the province which Naissos was in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/OpDentersnassoisteritory.jpg
While he was doing this, his son, Koson, came of age.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kosoncomingofage.jpg
And in the summer of 267, Oroles besieged Naissos.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/OpDbeseingingnaissos.jpg
In the autumn of 267, he attacked.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/naissosassualt.jpg
The battle started on a bright, sunny day, perfect for the battle. I was privileged to be right next to my Vasil.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/OpDbeforethebattle.jpg
We soon started with another barrage of missiles, as we banged away at their wall.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rammingwall.jpg
Because of our missiles, all but 36 men of one enemy unit was wiped out.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/wipedoutenemyunit.jpg
We first made contact with their heavily depleted unit of Triballoi Infantry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstcontact.jpg
We soon met brothers, and with heavy hearts again, we began to kill them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/brothersattacking.jpg
The enemy general,Diales, watched as his men were slaughtered.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enermygeneralwatchingn.jpg
And soon the enemy Drapanai joined them, and a fierce battle began on the right flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rightflankbattle.jpg
In the center, our Galatians charged the enemy general while under fire.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianschargingn.jpg
And soon a brutal fight erupted, especially when our elite Thracian infantry arrived.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansandfiercebattlen.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/centerbattle1n.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/centerbattle2-1.jpg
And soon their general entered the fray
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/centerbattlejoingfray.jpg
On the right flank, our brothers, as they did in the last battle, began to flee, but the enemy Drapanai held fast.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/brothersfleeingagain.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/drapanaiholdingfast.jpg
In the center battle, our Elite Thracian Infantry were able to go around the enemy and charge into their behind.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraciansncharging.jpg
In the end, the enemy general didn't even have the honor of dieing with his men- he fled with his remaining men like a coward.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralrouting-1.jpg
We encountered no resistance until we reached the enemy square, where the enemy Elite Thracian Infantry was.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemythraciansattacking.jpg
They caused major problems for us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/majorproblems.jpg
But just until our own Thracians were able to flank them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/alliedthraciansflanking.jpg
And as usual, that coward, Diales, watched from the sidelines as his men were slowly getting killed, giving directions that were for naught.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dialeswatchingfromsidelinesn.jpg
And finally, when there were just a few men under his command left, Diales charged alone into our Thracians, hoping to kill a few of them before he went down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dialesbeingsuicidal.jpg
But he didn't kill any- he died quickly by our Thracians blades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dialesfallen.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dialesdead.jpg
Just as he died, our forces took control of the plaza, and the town was ours, uniting yet another tribe!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/naissosresults.jpg
But there was much carnage, mostly on the square.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/plazacontrolled.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage.jpg
With the Triballi tribe entering our nation, Oroles per Drobeta decided to take a bit of a rest before moving to the next tribe.

Chapter 6- An Application and Some Unrest
Right after we took over Naissos, the leader of another tribe, Tauronos, of the Carduci tribe, who dwells in the town of Singidunum, asked Oroles per Drobeta if he could join us. We graciously accepted, without any doubt. He had but one request.
“We want a limited amount of autonomy. Other than that, we will serve the confederation well.” We agreed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/Tauronos.jpg
But soon, he was killed in battle with some dissenters who didn't agree with what he had done.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/Tauronosdeath.jpg
Soon Oroles per Drobeta calmed the region down and allowed the people to elect their own client ruler, with our approval. So they chose a man named Duda, who, after we looked into his background, was found to be a trustworthy and honorable man. So we accepted him, and he became the client ruler of Singidunum.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newgovernorduda.jpg
After all of this, we constructed barracks that would allow us to train the Cordinau Orca, or the Scordisci Elite Infantry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/scordiscieliteinfantry.jpg
These soldiers were the epitome of the idea of good infantry. They could handle anything that came their way, even Elite Thracians, which is very hard to do. Our Vasil was sure to utilize them well.
Nice AAR, Hooahguy, keep it up! :2thumbsup:

Chapter 7- The Rivals
For as long as anyone can remember, the Agathyrsi tribe, who resided in Sarmiszegethusa, were our biggest rivals. We competed in sports, trade, and in war. We have already had numerous wars, but both ended without result. Oroles per Drobeta was determined to end that, with victory and complete integration of the Agathyrsi tribe.
We decided to ask them once- just once- if they would join our confederation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/getaidiptosarm.jpg
But, as we expected, they said no and drove our diplomat away with force. Thus, Oroles per Drobeta had no choice but to bring his army and attack Sarmiszegethusa.

Chapter 8- The battle for Sarmiszegethusa
In the spring of 262, our Vasil assaulted Sarmiszegethusa.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/sarmassault.jpg
Our two units of Scordisci Infantry pushed the rams to the walls.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/pushingrams.jpg
And started the bang away at the walls.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ramsramming-1.jpg
During this time, our archers opened fire.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/givinghell.jpg
The enemies fist line of defense, the Drapanai, were almost completely annihilated and driven away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/drapanaifleeing.jpg
Unlike before, the enemy put their phalanx to guard the plaza.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lightphalanxwaiting.jpg
So the enemies light skirmishers came in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lightskirmsassisting.jpg
But were under fire all the way there.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lightskirmsrunnning.jpg
That’s when our Scordisci Infantry stormed in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/scordisciassaulting.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/scordisciassaulting2.jpg
During this time, the enemy general decided to turn his back on the carnage, seeing that the situation was hopeless, as of now.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralbackwards.jpg
On our left flank, another unit of Drapanai engaged our men, but was soon routed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/drapanaifalling.jpg
When that was happening, our men were very vulnerable, as they were milling about, killing fleeing Drapanai, and Skorillo, the enemy general, decided to turn around to see what was happening, but still didn't do anything. I personally think if he charged right then, we would have been in serious danger.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralwaiting.jpg
Our Vasil ordered the Scordisci Infantry to assault the plaza- alone. I think he wanted to see how well they could perform.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/scordiscichargingalone.jpg
At first, they just encountered six archers, who were cut down, kind of as practice for their blades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/goodpractice.jpg
And finally the enemy general charged our Scordisci Infantry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralcoming.jpg
To assist our men, Oroles sent in the Thraikians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thracianscoming.jpg
Skorillo finally gathered the courage to fight our men himself- and then went crazy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/generalslashing.jpg
But he regained his senses and retreated.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/generalfleeing.jpg
Meanwhile, our heavy horse archers were sent in to flank the enemy, seeing that they finished up their arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/flanking.jpg
And we charged into the plaza, killing Skorillo.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/generalslain.jpg
Just then, the horse archers slammed into the right side of the phalanx.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalrytotherescue.jpg
And the surrounding was complete.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/surrounded-1.jpg
Soon, everyone was dead, and there was much celebration.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/celebrating.jpg
I, for one, was shocked at how few men we lost for this town. It seems as if all the fight went out of them after decades of fighting.

Chapter 9- The agreement and the Rebel Problem
After we took Sarmiszegethusa, the Makedonians wanted to make an agreement with us. So we sent our diplomat over, and we decided on one thing.
The towns of Serdike and Tylis will serve as buffer towns. The nation who invades one of those territories will be seen as an act of aggression, and the other nation will declare war on that nation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/buffertowns.jpg
We agreed, and it was done. No one was to set foot into those provinces. But we did not know if those Makedonians were going to honor it……
Our Vasil also decided on our next target: Ak-Ink, a large trading town north of Singidunum.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/nexttarget.jpg
Meanwhile, Brasos per Rekidava brought his army to deal with some rebels in the northern area of the province Scorcouw. Now, we are having many troubles with rebels, and they keep popping up everywhere. Our Vasil was recently heard in his room cursing them because he just received word a trade convoy was robbed by them. So he sent Brasos per Rekidava with an army to deal with them accordingly. It was to be the first battle of many with rebels.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-1.jpg
As usual, we chose a nice, sunny day to battle on.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FMbeforethebattle.jpg
Our horse archers went forward and began to target the enemy archers in devastating volleys of arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAvolley.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyunderfire.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyunderfire2.jpg
We soon made contact with the remaining enemy forces, which were two units of Thraikian skirmishers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstcontact-1.jpg
And soon, the rebel leader was killed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycaptaindeath.jpg
That was followed by the enemy routing, and our cavalry pursuing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyretreating.jpg
And we soon won, only letting three escape, who were soon hunted down and put in jail.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-2.jpg
Then we spotted the main culprit of the rebel operations in our country, the one who has disrupted trade routes and was a dangerous presence in our lands.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rebelarmy.jpg
So Oroles per Drobeta sent Brasos per Rekidava, now known as the Rebel Killer, turned his army east to take on these rebels.

i think im going to let the hellenes tear themselves apart first: all of "the big 3" used to have 1 large stack per, but the makedonian one was just torn up by the KH one(only 2-3 units remaining, and they have only a few men in each left!), and i think they are going to head into epirote territory soon. so for now, im uniting the northern tribes...... makes no sense to get myself torn up by sarissas right now- im going to boost my economy so i can churn out Scordiscis and thraikains so i can deal with the sarrissas accordingly. but its going to be hard. now i know why they said "easy beginning but gets harder"

A word to the wise, hooahguy. Don't be tempted by Nikaia(the city right across the Golden Horn from Byzantion). Two reasons: Grey Death and Yellow Fever.
In my Getai campaign I took it around 250 so that my Vasil could get the "Pavel-Ter" trait. Three turns later the Seleucids laid siege. Then no sooner did I beat them off than the Ptolemies showed up with a bone to pick. Then the entire Pontic army arrived on my doorstep with four family members leading the charge. And this is with the difficulty set to M/M. (Curiosity: what is your difficulty set to? I started wondering after you said Kallatis was built up to those high-level MICs.)
So, Nikaia is a magnet for the Successors and unless you want to take them all on at once, be warned.
By the way, it was your AAR which inspired me to start a Getai campaign in the first place, so keep up the good work.:beam:

thanks for the advice, Theodotos I.
i plan on taking 3 armies with me to take Nikaia- one of cheap units to garrison it with, and the other 3 to protect it, and i will continually send in reinforcement armies, before moving on. i also plan on sending an insignificant general to recruit a mercenary unit of galatian cavalry, sort of to RP the commander of the galatian wing of my army. i will definitely go on with this, no doubt. wrestling season ends on Feb 18. and we have 2 early dismissals in the next 2 weeks! (in all, we only have another 12 days of practice IF we do have practice on those days which we have early dismissal on- 10 if we dont) we also have 4 more matches, one of them tomorrow, and we leave for the tournament on the 14 of Feb, which is a month from today.
so, thanks for your comments and stay tuned for updates!
EDIT: about the MIC levels, it makes more sense for a town with any sensible leadership to go straight to the highest MIC level immediately, so i looked up the second highest MIC level in the building tree, and used process_cq to get to it, then began to build it (i do this with every campaign- i did it with Baktria too- ya, i know, shameful- but better for RP)

Yeah, just thought you might want a warning. I've lost count of the stacks I've beaten off my porch. And it's getting harder to hold by the turn because the AI sometimes starts another seige before I can even retrain my units. Don't worry about the Macedonian sarissas, Drapanai combined with Gaeroas can handle them easily---sure you'll lose men but you can replace those units for far cheaper than the Macedon Argyraspides and Pezhetairoi. I now own all the way down to Corinth and am starting to think about taking on the KH. They've gotten really depleted in the wars. BTW, I noticed in another thread that you figured the Getai would be able to train Hellenistic troops once you entered southern Hellas. Well, that's only partly true. From what I can see you'll never be able to train any phalanx units other than your two native ones. Thureophoroi, the Hoplites(Haploi and Classical) and the light skirmisher units are the only units I've seen so far.
(And after taking a look at the Recruitment Viewer, I think those are the only one's I'm going to see either).
Thanks for telling me about the barracks. I noticed the same thing in your Baktria AAR and was starting to wonder about both your cash flow and your tech. Figured either I was doing something terribly wrong or else you were fooling around with the files. And I was right!

Thought I'd come back around and see if your Nikaia strategy had worked out. Saw you hadn't posted anymore updates. In case you've not gone to war with Makedon yet, here's a tip I thought might be useful. The biggest problem I've had with them thus far(and they only have Mytilene left in 219 BC), is their bodyguard cavalry. Those phalanxes are expensive and slow and I find my armies are often just composed of Drapanai, which scatter to the wind under a cavalry charge. So I string Komatai out in front of my line and the Makedonians charge them. When the Komatai retreat, the bodyguards seem to slow down to follow them and they've lost most of their momentum by the time they hit the Drapanai and Rhomphiaphoroi behind. It seems to work pretty well, so I thought you might be interested. Good luck and keep writing.

Chapter 11- A Change in Direction
In the spring of 260, our Vasil decided that we wouldn’t head northwest, and take Ak-Ink. We would head northeast, into Skythia, to take the Greco- Skythian town of Olbia.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/olbia.jpg
There was a profitable port there, and in addition, we would be able to recruit many Skythians, who were rumored to be the best horse archers in the world. Our best generals decided that it would be better to go into Skythia than to attack Ak-Ink. The Skythian horse archers would help us against future foes!
After we took Olbia, we would take the rest of the Bosporus.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bosporus.jpg
But before we could take Olbia, we had to find out more about it.
The garrison was medium sized, but could be deadly if not countered by the correct combination of forces. We also found out a few things about the governor. He was of Skythian origins, but became Hellenized. He was an oppressive ruler, so we decided that there was to be no negotiation- just aggression. We would free the Skythians of Olbia and bring them under the roof of our great Confederation. But we knew he wouldn’t go down without a fight, and not all Skythians hated him. Indeed, the rich ones loved him, so they made up his bodyguard. Anyone else would be fatal for him.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/olbiagovernor.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/olbiagovbodyguards.jpg
So as we were gathering information, we were also gathering our forces…….
I like how this AAR is written: explaination (sp?) of future plans, mixed with a good amount of battles (and not only sieges), contextualization of in-game details (like the "background" and the personality of the various generals), and a nice dose of humor that keeps the interest up in the battle screens... many would go unnoticed otherwise :P
Keep up the good work! :2thumbsup:

In preparation for taking Olbia, we made peace with the Sauromatae, who were neighbors with the Olbians.

After the levy hoplites came some medium cavalry. They too were butchered.

Our Scordiscis entered the town, and was promptly charged by the enemy heavy cavalry, and their general. Unfortunately, they could not receive any archer support, since we ran out of arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/scordiscisunderattack.jpg
Soon they were spread out, and in grave danger of being overran.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/spreadout.jpg
But the Thraikians came and the enemy general retreated, but when we came to the top of the hill, the enemy general attacked again.

Chapter 13: The Bosporus Campaign- Part 2- The Battle for Taurike Chersonesos
After we took Olbia, Oroles per Drobeta brought his horse archer-heavy army to defeat the rebel armies defending the two Hellenic towns of Chersonesos and Pantikapaion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rebelarmydefending.jpg
His army consisted of many horse archers and many mercenaries, even a few Hellenic ones, for even though Oroles hated Hellenes, he realized they had great tactical advantage. Anyhow, these weren’t true Hellenes- they were trained in Skythia, so they still retained some heritage, even though they were outfitted in a Hellenic fashion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thearmy.jpg
He went to battle against the first force, guarding Chersonesos.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-4.jpg
There was a giant rock on our left flank, so we positioned the left flank of our phalanxes up against it, and a unit of mercenary hoplites to guard it from any flanking enemies.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/hoplitesguarding.jpg
On the far left of the battlefield was a large group of trees. Half of our horse archers hid there, lying in wait for the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAslyinginwait.jpg
As the enemy approached, our archers in the forests let loose in great volleys, smiting many of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyHAsunderattack1.jpg
Our horse archers on the right flank did the same thing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyHAsunderattack2.jpg
Soon the enemy general came under fire as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralunderfire.jpg
Seeing that the enemy general and his Skythian nobles were making a beeline towards our horse archers, Oroles sent our own Skythian nobles to counter them, using our archers as covering fire. Leading the enemy cavalry formation was the enemy general himself, and he was one of the first to die.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/charging.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycaptaindead.jpg

As we were engaging their cavalry, and driving the last few off, the enemy spearmen came.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyspearmenengaging.jpg
Soon, the entire enemy army was routing, and we began to chase them down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasingdown.jpg
And the day was won.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-5.jpg
Even as they were doing that, Oroles went to survey the carnage. There were arrows all over the ground, on both sides, but mostly on their side. We saw many young men impaled by arrows, as we passed by, we heard the occasional crunch of our horses hooves crushing some unfortunate enemy soldiers bones, the screams of the wounded, and we saw some of the mercenary Skythians in our service looting the bodies. Oroles dismounted and so did a handful of us, including me. The rest stayed on the horses and followed. He walked over to an enemy archer dead on the ground. He could not have been but 13 years of age, and here he was, dead on the ground. Behold, there were seven arrows in him, three of them were in his face. With a tear, Oroles told us to dig a grave for him. We did, interred the dead archer into the ground and covered him up. We passed more bodies, and about that time, the stench of the corpses of the men and horses began to affect us, so we walked back to the horses, mounted, and left. The scenes from that day would be etched in my mind for years to come.
It was a sobering experience for all of us.

Historically, the reason why nomads fought at range was due to their emotional detachment from the cold killing. They had no haughty concept of "honor", etc. as their nobles weren't too far above their commoners, as well as that they all lived in the saddle and tent. Their emotional detachment was also why their exterminated many people when they attacked towns, etc.

BTW, I see you're heading the route of horse-archer-heavy army. Certainly a different strategy than mine, but should be interesting to see how it turns out. I'd say let the best man win, but I finished my Getai campaign last week. On to Karthadast! :whip:

Chapter 14: The Bosporus Campaign- Part 3, Taking Chersonesos
We scouted out Chersonesos. The garrison was medium sized, not too strong. However, it did have something which we have never encountered before: walls made of stone. The governor was also a Hellene, which made us even more eager to kill him.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rebelgarrisongovernor.jpg
After two years of assembling an army, Oroles per Drobeta marches to take Chersonesos and laid siege to it in the winter of 254.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/besiegingchersonesos.jpg
In the spring of 253, we assaulted.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-5.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting2.jpg
We assaulted on a decent day.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook.jpg
Our Hellenic mercenaries helped us build great siege towers, which we built four. But as we approached the walls, two were burned down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firsttowerdown.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/secondtowerdown.jpg
All the while, enemy archers on the walls pelted us with arrows, which cause 45% of our casualties that day. Our archers fired back in return, of course.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/archersassisting.jpg
But the other two made it, and soon our men spilled over into the enemy ranks.
Our Thraikians cut the enemy down mercilessly.

https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyholdingup4.jpg
In the meantime, the enemy general ran around, giving useless orders.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/givingordersuselessly.jpg
Finally, on the right flank, there was only on enemy archer left.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastarcher.jpg
When he was dead, for some reason only a single Thraikian ran to the other side to assist his brothers. The rest worked on the gate so it would be usable.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/armyofone.jpg
During this confusion, an enemy unit of horse skirmishers escaped.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/runningaround.jpg
But for some reason, they came back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/comingback.jpg
But two of these horsemen decided to stay back and defend the gate.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/waiting.jpg
The gate was opened, and our men poured in:
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstmenin-1.jpg
As soon as we entered, enemy cavalry attacked.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycavalryassaulting.jpg
The situation on the right flank was critical until some hoplites came and took some pressure off of our skirmishers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/assistance.jpg
When the enemy was routed, our main force charged down the street and made contact with the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mainstreetbattle1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mainstreetbattle2.jpg
The enemy general was killed during this fight.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-3.jpg
The bodies were piled so high around him that we didn't find his body until a few days after the battle.
Finally, the enemy began to flee.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyfleeing.jpg
But on the walls, the right side held up for some time, but eventually they were wiped out. for the enemy, the situation became so desperate, some jumped off the walls instead of facing out Thraikian blades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rightsidestillfighting.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/resistanceonwallsended.jpg
In the plaza, the enemy was being pushed back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/plazaresistance.jpg
We sent our Galatians around the last unit which was left.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansrounding.jpg
Soon, the enemy was down to their last few men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastfewmen.jpg
But everything is inevitable, and finally, the last man was killed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastmankilled.jpg
Taking the town cost us not nearly as many as we thought we would lose- taking the town of Naissos cost us almost twice as much.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-6.jpg
So there was just one town left in the Bosporus to take, for the town of Tanais, the easternmost Bosporus town, was being besieged by our allies, the Sauromatae, so all that was left was the heavily fortified town of Pantikapaion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastbosporustown.jpg

Chapter 15- The Bosporus Campaign- Part 4, Getting ready and a commemoration
As we prepared for taking the last major town in the Bosporus, we did some inquiring, as usual. We found that the garrison of Pantikapaion was immense, over 3,000 strong, and was pretty well led.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/largerebelgarrison.jpg
The governor was a Hellenic veteran of fighting in southern Hellas, so he had some fighting experience. But we had more. His army was a mixture of Hellenic and Skythian troops, a dangerous combination. Because the garrison is so large, Oroles per Drobeta decided an assault on the city itself would be suicidal. So we would make the enemy come to us.
We would set up with our phalanxes before them, and they would, hopefully, run into our spears, while our horse archers would pour arrows on them. Thraikians and our elite skirmishers will guard our flanks, while two units of heavy Skythian cavalry would assist by slamming into the enemy flanks, causing much damage among enemy ranks, iff all went well.
But as our Vasil got his things together in preparation of moving out, he was approached by a contingent of large Galatians.
“We, the leaders of our small unit of Tindanotae, have heard of your noble and heroic exploits, especially in the Bosporus against the Hellenes.”
“Ah yes,” our Vasil commented, “I have heard much of your kind, and of your own exploits in Thraikia and Asia Minor.”
“Maybe we should give you some background of where we come and how we fight. We come from Galatia, where we were oppressed by Hellenes for many years before escaping, where we formed this unit of Tindanotae, where we rove around different lands, killing Hellenes and assisting those who have noble causes in our opinions, which would be you right now. We heard how you planned to assault the largest Hellene town in the Bosporus, so we offer you our services for a small sum.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianwildmen.jpg
Our Vasil thought for a moment before asking, “And how do you fight? Do you fight on horseback, with spears, swords, what?”
“We fight with two weapons. We each carry two javelins, a long sword, and a large shield. But we also take a secret drug that only we and our like take which make us almost impervious to injuries. One who isn’t use to it would die if they took it, but we have the ability to take large doses of it and fight ferociously even after we have taken wounds that would have killed a normal man.”
“Very well, we accept your services. We leave in a few hours time for the march to Pantikapaion.”
“Thank you, noble Vasil. You will never regret that you employed our services!”
With that, the Galatians left, and Oroles began his long march towards Pantikapaion with his bodyguard and a bit over 2,800 men under his command.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/OpDsarmy-summer252.jpg
It may be worthwhile to note that when this discussion was going on, it was the 20th anniversary that our former leader, Zalmodegikos per Buridava, embarked on the journey to reunite the tribes of Dacia and Thraikia. With his death, came our current leader, Oroles per Drobeta, who has been ruling for 18 years. Zalmodegikos per Buridava ruled for just 2 years before illness struck him down, but his vision left a profound impact on all his sons. He left a vision of a united Getic confederation, where he and those who ruled after him would rule with fairness and equality, with law and with strength, and would leave a lasting impression of Getic power in the world for the generations to come, all things that he envisioned would last for centuries to come.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/deadZPD.jpg
Over the past 20 years, our confederation has grown immensely! Compare the results yourself- here was our humble beginning, in 272….
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/map-272.jpg
Here is 10 years later, before the Bosporus Campaign, in 262…..
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/map-262.jpg
Finally, here is where we are now, at 252….
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/map-summer252.jpg
Our borders stretch from Illyria to the Bosporus. Our enemies fear us. Our blades and arrows cut through anything in our path. Our culture leaves great impacts over those we conquer. Indeed, Kallatis used to be a Hellene town of filth, idiocy, and drinking! But we turned it into a Getic town of purity, study and law. The land quakes when we ride, the earth shakes when our soldiers march. Soon, with the help of the gods, we will have united the tribes, destroyed the Makedonians, and conquered the Bosporus and the Hellas!

Chapter 16- The Bosporus Campaign: Part 5, The Last City and Betrayal
After two years of marching, for Oroles per Drobeta kept getting stalled with minor things, he finally entered the province of Bosporion Tyrranesis.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enterthegetai.jpg
And in the year 250, he laid siege to Pantikapaion, the last of the Bosporus cities.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/besiegingthelastofthebosporustowns.jpg
But two years later, they were still waiting the siege out…..
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/stillwaiting.jpg
Then, after those two years, in 248, the garrison opened our doors to our victorious army. The garrison of over 3,000 men, through disease and starvation, has slowly been reduced to just over 1,000 men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygarrisonreduced.jpg
The Galatians, furious that they were denied a fight by these cowardly foes, went on a killing spree in the city, and couldn’t be stopped until their anger subsided.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/conquered.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/killing.jpg
The leader of the Galatians came to us, furious that they had no chance to fight.
“You promised us blood! And where did it go? We had to get it ourselves from the common person on the streets! We wanted to fight real men, ones who had swords and shields! You lied to us!”
Our Vasil replied calmly, “I know, our men are thirsty for blood as well, and all of us will get our chance to spill Hellenic blood soon- very soon.”
“What do you mean?! There isn’t an enemy around who would dare challenge you!”
“Ah, but there is….. We just got word that those Makedonians have betrayed our agreement by besieging the town of Tylis. By our agreement earlier, (in chapter 9) this is an act of war and we will be leaving very shortly for southern Dacia to get ready, for if they do take the town, we will act with the force necessary, and that will include putting you into some hard combat, which I'm sure all of you are eager for.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/betrayed.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/betrayed2.jpg
“Oh yes, we are ready! Shall I tell my men to get ready to leave, O mighty Vasil?”
“Yes, indeed- we need to get there as fast as we can. The clouds of war are approaching, and it would be disastrous if we weren’t ready for it.”
With that, our Vasil left with his army for southern Dacia. Would the Makedonians pursue war? Or would they retreat from Tylis and the agreement would be saved? After all, the general leading the Makedonian army on Tylis was a radical young general. Maybe he acted against orders? We would have to see. But in the meantime, we weren’t taking any chances.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leaving.jpg

Chapter 17- A Sigh of Relief
In the winter of 248, the Makedonians launched an attack on Tylis. It failed, and they were beaten back.
(Insert picture of Maks beaten back)
Unfortunately, there was a reserve Makedonian army coming to assist him, so it is doubtful the town will last long.
So we sent our diplomat to do two things. First, he journeyed over to the camp of the Makedonian general, Karenos Argeades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makgeneral.jpg
Our diplomat told him how by attacking Tylis, it was breaking our agreement, and it could cause war. Karenos laughed and rudely sent our diplomat packing. As he was leaving, he heard Karenos say to an aide, “Moronic Getai! Don’t they understand that this is all planned?!”
The aide laughed.
That Makedonian sure could keep a good secret- our diplomat ran back and told us everything.
Then our diplomat went to the Epeirote king and requested that he helps us in our fight against the Makedonians. He agreed, for the Makedonians were also their enemy for a long time. But, them being Hellenes, we don’t know how long they will commit, and when we are through with the Makedonians, if they will turn on us……
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/Getai-Epeiroteagreement.jpg
In the meantime, our Vasil was getting old. He could barely ride a horse in battle, and his end was getting closer. It was time to choose an heir.
Until then, Dizo per Rekidava, the second of Zalmodegikos’s sons was the heir, but Dizo was older than Oroles, and he was on his deathbed as well. So Dizo was unfit. Instead, he chose a new addition to the family, Zyraxes per Dokidava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newfactionheir.jpg
The family was in an uproar, especially Koson, Oroles’s firstborn.
“How could you choose a person who was only in this family for less than two years?!”
“Koson, my son, this is a confederation, not a monarchy. While I may be king, everyone has a chance to become king and everyone has a fair say in leadership. I feel that Zyraxes is the best choice to become our next leader. However, he has yet to prove himself in combat, which is something you are much better at."
Oroles meant every word he said. Indeed, I was there when he said that! he confided to me that he would tell Zyraxes to give command of the second army, which was soon to be raised, to Koson, but also to keep an eye on him, in case he gets any ideas….
We also talked to the leader of Tylis, Virssuccois. He said the Makedonians were in such a rabble when they busted through their walls, it was easy for his men to slaughter them, but still, the Makedonian’s overwhelming numbers wore them down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/tylisgeneralandgarrison.jpg
“If we are attacked once more, we are finished. But we give you our word; we won't go down without a fight!”
“Don’t you worry, if they do it again, then we will come down upon them like a bat out of hell!”
“Thank you, noble messenger of the Getai, if we pull through this, we can assure you that we will join your confederation!
“Well, we don’t know if we can allow you too…. You see, your town and Serdike are the buffer towns in between the Getai and Makedonian. So, we’ll have to see.”
“Well, in any case, we are in your debt. Farewell!”
So in the spring of 247, our Vasil entered Buridava, where he would stay for the rest of his days, and gave command of the army over to Zyraxes, as all the border cities were fortified and defenses were prepared.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/situation-spring247.jpg
Even though Zyraxes was new to the family, he knew exactly what was going on, and he made camp in a location where he could easily respond to any crisis.
Everyone knew war was looming.

Chapter 18- War!
In the spring of 248, another Makedonian army besieged Tylis.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/finalsiege.jpg
And before anyone could react, they captured it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/provoking.jpg
After the battle, the few survivors of the Tylis garrison trickled into Zyraxes' camp.
They asked angrily why they got no support from our forces.
"Where were you?! Where were those promised forces?"
"You must understand. it takes a good week and a half for news to travel here. by that time, the Makedonians already occupied your town. now leave, for I will hear nothing more of the matter. if you want, you are welcome to join our army, which will take action soon."
His aides approached him.
"What's your plan of action sir?"
"We are going to wait until the second army under Koson is ready, then we invade."
"Sir, Kosons' army is already done."
"Very well. Prepare the men for war. The clouds of war are here."

Chapter 19- The Makedonian War- Part 1
In the autumn of 244, our Vasil, Oroles per Drobeta, dies of old age. Zyraxes per Dokidava is now the leader of our great confederation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/factionleaderdead.jpg
Our armies moved in….
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/movingin-1.jpg
But first, we made an alliance with the Makedonians sworn enemy, the Koinon Hellenon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newalliance-1.jpg
And finally, we attacked the town of Tylis, under Makedonian control, and with it, the struggle began. Our army was composed entirely of mercenaries taken from escapees of Tylis.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/war-getaivsmaks.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestartingfortylis.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestartingfortylis2.jpg
The battle started with our horse archers and slingers shooting all their arrows and stones at those accursed Makedonians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/archersinsupport.jpg
They killed many.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/unitslaughtered.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/standingcalmlyunderfire.jpg
Soon, our mercenaries stormed in, and made contact.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstcontact-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/secondcontact.jpg
Our German mercenaries also wanted to get in the fighting, so we sent our heaviest unit of German swordsmen to deal with an enemy phalanx on our left flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/germanmercsattacking.jpg
With their left flank in peril, they sent what was remaining of their Prodomoi to assist.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/totherescue.jpg
They were soon driven off.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/prodomoiattacking.jpg
Their general charged us next, and we handily cut him, along with his bodyguards, down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralattacking-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-4.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead2.jpg
The mercenaries went on and attacked the central plaza, killing all who opposed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/nativesattacking.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mortalcombat.jpg
Soon, there was only one unit of levy phalanx left, and everyone joined in on the slaughter, even the German skirmisher cavalry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/germanskirmmercsattacking.jpg
Soon, they were on the verge of breaking…..
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/breaking.jpg
And even sooner, they were all dead, and the town was taken!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/celebration-1.jpg
We lost few.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-8.jpg

Chapter 20- The Makedonian War- Part 2- The Battle for the Pellic Forest
While the battle for Tylis was going on, our new Vasil, yet to be battle tested, attacked a smaller Makedonian army in the very homeland of Makedonia herself, in the Pellic Forest.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-6.jpg
It was under the Makedonian general who started this whole war. Accompanying Karenos was his relative, Demetrios.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makcowardpic.jpg
So the battle began.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting2-1.jpg
We were in a very heavily forested terrain, so any accuracy in archery was limited, but, being that our archers were Skythian, the original archers, they had ease with it, and soon they were slaughtering Makedonian soldiers.
While the slaughter was going on, we sent our heavy cavalry to engage their heavy cavalry and generals.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalrymelee.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalrymelee2.jpg
Soon we had their cavalry in retreat, while we pelted them with arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/retreatingunderfire.jpg
At that moment, our infantry, which were hiding, burst from the woods and attacked an unsuspecting Makedonian foe.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/charging-1.jpg
(there is something epic about this photo- i think ill submit it for the contest next month...)
At about this time, Karenos was slain.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-5.jpg
And Demetrios was running for his life.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makcoward.jpg
Our infantry engaged the enemy soldiers and soon routed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/infantrymelee.jpg
It was a slaughter.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/poorlevies.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/trapped.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastgalatian.jpg
Finally, they had only one man left on the battlefield, and he was soon slain.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastman.jpg
The battle was won, and only three Makedonians were alive to tell the story.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-9.jpg
All in all,the year 244-243 were very successful years.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/situation-243.jpg
Soon, Zyraxes would march on Pella herself.

ah! fast to read, very nice, and funny! you have some humour... the block of the writer line was too funny:laugh4:
[anyway about that "block of the writer" line, i dare to make a suggestions: it's not you have to fill every single pic with a funny line, if you alternate, some epics lines with some funny ones, the funny line become ever more funny.
regarding graphics, you can add graphics blocks from another picture, just opening two sessions, or three, of mspaint at the same time. Load a picture in a session, and another or the same picture in the second session, than cut and past a block of graphic from a picture to another. For example you can copy the gold amount infos from the GUI, and paste it on the campaign map pics or other things like that]

Chapter 21- a Simple Slaughter
In the winter of 242, Makedonia was setback. its best general, Soson Kydreaios, was accompanying a scouting party, when our Vasils' army attacked. they had no choice but to fight, and they knew they were doomed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/littlebattle.jpg
The battle was on a nice day, and even though there was snow on the ground, there was no wind. therefore, our Vasil sent all of our horse archers forward to rain death on the Makedonians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAmarching.jpg
He sent our Skythian nobles to charge the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/marching.jpg
They made contact.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/impact.jpg
Soson fought hard, but it was not enough.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralfighting.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneralslain.jpg
Soon after, the enemy broke, and we won the day.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-10.jpg
While this was going on, a tattered band of soldiers arrived in Buridava. When we asked where they came from, they replied "we come from a place without hope."
It was a Makedonian family member, Amopaon Argeades, brother of Demetrios Argeades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/traitorgreek.jpg
We asked him why he was here.
"My friends, I have a story to tell. I used to be in command of the largest army in Makedonia. A few weeks ago, we were beset my a large Epeirote army. They destroyed us. only i and a few others remained. With the army went all my faith in Makedonia. Seeing that I couldnt join the Epeirites, and I definitly cant join those Philosophy-loving greeks in Athens. The only way I can think of to get my revenge is to join you and your confederation. That is my request. I can assure you I will serve you loyally and with honor."
"we accept. welcome Ampoaon. I trust you will serve well."
After Ampoaon left, and word had been sent to Zyraxes about what happened, he gave us very specific instructions.
"Keep guard over that man and monitor every converation he has. He has yet to prove his loyalty...."

Chapter 22- Onto Pella!
In the spring of 241, our Vasil decided to end this war once and for all. we would send the best two forces we had against the Makedonian capital city, Pella. The plan was simple: the Makedonians had put thier best forces in Pella, and we certainly couldnt fight them in hand to hand. there were too many of them for that. so we would force them to come out and fight, like real men. then we would see who shall prevail: the true Dacian or those scum-bags, the Makedonians!

Chapter 23- At the gates of Pella
In the autumn of 241, our leader, Zyraxes per Dokidava, moved his army closer to Pella, the Makedonian Capital city, with the heir to the throne, Koson, backing him up.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/movingin-2.jpg
And in the winter of 241 we laid siege to Pella…
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ready.jpg
Then the enemy sallied out, risking their capital in one battle… fools…
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlecommencing.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlebeginning.jpg
There was much confusion. The Makedonians had brains and sent a very small force around our backs to deceive us. Thus, we faced all of our forces at that (one unit of levy archers, while the main enemy force snuck up on our backs.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/force2menuvering.jpg
I myself spotted the main enemy force, and told my Vasil. He sounded the alarm, and we quickly sent a unit of cavalry to deal with the lone unit of archers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/attackingforce1.jpg
We wheeled our main battle line to face the bulk of the enemy forces, but we couldn’t get it all together in time.
Our horse archers went forward prematurely to attack, and were rushed by the Makedonian medium cavalry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalryengaging.jpg
Our Vasil rushed forward heroically.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bodyguardsandkitistaiattacking.jpg
As that battle was going on, there were three very fierce battles going on both flanks and in the middle.
On the left, it was under control. We were killing Makedonians easily.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/long-spearedmenattacking.jpg
In the middle, it was harder fighting, but it was also contained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/phalanxesfighting.jpg
On the right flank, it was frantic. Our flank was surrounded, but miraculously the line held up. Surely, the gods meant it to be as so!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/phalanxsurrounded.jpg
But then we killed Demetrios!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-6.jpg
Their line crumbled everywhere, even on the right flank. Our men pursued ruthlessly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/hellothere.jpg
Even the most disciplined troops in the world, the Makedonian Silver-shield phalangites, ran like rabbits!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/eventthediciplinedrout.jpg
(I know thats not their real name, but i couldnt remember it. sorry)
Soon it became a mass rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/theroutingmass.jpg
Just then, as there were but a few enemy units left on the battlefield, Koson decided to show up with his army, and trapped a few routing units, enabling him to claim that he did something in this battle.
Our Vasil, who only had 2 bodyguards left, including me, watching as his over 2,800 strong army came over the hill.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/watching.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/camefinally.jpg
We chased them until we could chase them no more.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasing.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/watchingcowards.jpg
In the end, it was a joyous day for us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-11.jpg
When we entered the city of Pella- unopposed- we slaughtered most of the inhabitants, especially the members of the Makedonian royal council who decided to have faith in the Makedonian army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/resistanceisfutile.jpg
Then we heard news that the Kingdom of Pontos had declared war on us, for no apparent reason.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/anunexpectedwar.jpg
When we implored further, we found out that the town of Nikaia, in Asia Minor, revolted from Pontic rule and decided to come under our flag without asking us first. So we provided no support for them, and they were soon conquered by the Pontic forces in the area. It was sad, but we could do nothing, for all of our forces, save for a horse archer force in the Bosporus, are in Greece fighting the Makedonians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/occupied.jpg
When all of these events were said and done, we set our sites on the last Makedonian stronghold in Greece…. the city Demetrias.
That is, once we finish retraining our forces from our losses we have sustained in the past few years.

yes, in truth. it was a very tough battle- i was really afraid Zyraxes was going to die. but then again, it would have made for a really juicy storyline.... one which i will reveal soon.....

i think option 2 is best.
what does everyone else think?

Stick with it man. You have done too much to start over. Then when you do finish start a new AAR with the 1.1 build. There is going to be a flood of new AARs in the next few days with the new build. You are already established and have a loyal following. Take your time there will be plenty of time to play 1.1 later.

Chapter 24- The World in Flames
The years of 240-239 were years that will never be forgotten in my lifetime, which is getting closer to the end by the minute.
I am growing weak, and soon I, Dizion per Drobeta, will pass from this world. Soon my son will take over my position of bodyguard to the Vasil. Already I am too weak to ride in the saddle, and I have been honorably dismissed of my duties to the Vasil. However, I will continue to write our history until the end.
We have scouted the ends of the earth, and we have found much has been heating up in the world. Over in the east, a nation called Baktria is amassing its forces once again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/theeastinflames.jpg
In Asia Minor, Pontos and Arche Seleukia fight over Nikaia,
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/asiaminorheatingup1.jpg
And Makedonia, seeing that their homeland in the Hellas is in grave peril, attack Pergamon, but is beset by Ptolemaic forces.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/asiaminorheatingup2.jpg
Speaking of Makedonia, an army under Koson per Drobeta has advanced on the city of Demetrias, getting within a few miles before the winter of 240.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/winter240-atthedoorsteps.jpg
And in the spring of 239, Koson lays siege to Demetrias, the last major stronghold of the Makedonians in all of Europe.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/greeceinwar.jpg
A bit to the east, a mighty Koinon Hellenon army advances on Chalkis, the second of the two remaining Makedonian cities on the continent.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHinstrength.jpg
East of Pergamon, the Arche Seleukia attacks Galatia, prompting a great outcry among the Galatian members of our armed forces.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiainvaded.jpg
Soon, the Arche Seleukia takes Galatia, causing riots in many of our cities where the Galatian refugees have amassed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiaoccupied.jpg
To our west, the distant cousins of the Hellenes, the Romani, are creating an empire that is rivaling our own….
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/Illryiaheatingup.jpg
They have even challenged the might of the Carthaginians, who rule the seas, but are losing Sicily under the might of the Romani.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/sicilyheatingup.jpg
West of that, the Gauls are once again in civil war over some silly dispute.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/gaulincivilwar.jpg
Finally, in Iberia, the Lusotannan amass their forces, assumingly in preparation to throw off Carthaginian rule.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/iberiagearingupforwar.jpg
But there is a glimmer of peace for us with those Pontic dogs- our very skilled diplomat was able to get a treaty out of them, ending a bloodless war.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/reasonableceasefire.jpg
Well, that is the world in the years 240-239. I, however, am finished with this world, and will tell no more. My son, Gudila per Drobeta, will continue it for me, as he will faithfully serve our Vasil with honor and courage.
The world is going dark for me… this is the end… farewell people of the Getai… I have seen our great confederation grow my millions of miles, and we have seen the downfall of our greatest enemy, the Makedonians.
But a word of warning- while we may be in triumph over them now, and they may be almost defeated, be cautious- do not trust those Hellenes in Athens, nor those elephant-riding Illyrians. Careful of those treacherous settlers of Nikaia, for they will stab any host country for their own benefit. They did it with Pontos, and they will do it again with us.
So be wary of everything, never take anything for granted! One battle, one defeat, can cost us everything we have worked so hard for in the past 33 years.
May you go from strength to strength, o mighty Getai, for this is the end of me…… good bye.....

A word from the author- no, this is not the end of the AAR – his son will continue it, don’t worry! I am going away for almost 2 weeks for Passover, and during that time, I will be playing EB v1.1 on my laptop and trying to reconstruct the events which have happened until now. If I succeed, I will continue my AAR there. If I cant manage to reconstruct the events over there to the best of my ability, I will still continue the AAR on my desktop. Wish me luck!

Nice update. Good to see what's going on in the rest of the world.
It look's like Chirurgeon's Iberians are showing up in unexpected places.
Good luck with trying to recreate your campaign. I tried that once (for personal, not an AAR or anything), I tried to recreate about a dozen years of a campaign I was fond of after a release, but I couldn't do it. My advice would be to continue this campaign on v1.0 and when you get tired of it upgrade to v1.1 for the your next AAR. I don't think much changed for Getai in v1.1 anyways, other than a new Thracian regional.

Chapter 25: Coup D'état
Greetings, follower of the Getai! I am Dizion’s son- Gudila per Drobeta. This was my first year on the job, so in the upcoming battle, my Vasil put me in the back ranks, instead of with his bodyguards, and I was upset, but in the end, I was happy I was in the back and not the front- for now.
In the year 238, the last of the 3 original founders of our great nation died- Dizo per Rekidava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/dizodies.jpg
Also, the Koinon Hellenon helped us out by defeating a large relief army that was headed in our direction, presumably to help relieve the garrison.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/inthemeantime.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/inthemeantime2.jpg
Soon afterwards, our Vasil joined Koson per Drobeta, who was leading the army that was to take Demetrias. I don’t think Koson was too happy, and you will see why later.
Finally, in the summer of 237, the Makedonians sallied out in an attempt to break out, since they were running short of food and water.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyattacks.jpg
The battle began, and the enemy general charged our left flank, which wasn’t very strong.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyBGflanking.jpg
Seeing that the entire battle was in jeopardy from the large mass of enemy heavy cavalry, our Vasil himself, not waiting for allied cavalry to assist him, charged into the battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/vasilcountering.jpg
It was very hard fighting, from what I heard from the combatants, and our Vasil was plunged right into the middle of it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/vasilincombat.jpg
The fighting soon got to be frantic, and in desperation, our Vasil called for Koson to help him. Koson refused.
Soon, everyone was cut off from one another, and our Vasil was mortally wounded by those Makedonian dogs, but not before taking many of them down before he was stabbed in the stomach and left for the dead. Even as the remainders of Zyraxes bodyguards were fighting, Koson came riding up to the mortally injured Zyraxes, and without saying a word, plunged his spear into Zyraxes mouth, killing him instantly. Thus, Zyraxes passed from this earth, and Koson became the new Vasil.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/vasildead.jpg
In a final push, the last few bodyguards pushed off the Makedonians, who fled, and the bodyguards stood and stared as they saw Koson kill their beloved leader.
In disgust, the entire entity of the bodyguard that had once belonged to Zyraxes, withdrew from the battlefield, no longer willing to help the traitor called Koson per Drobeta.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/retreating.jpg
As for me, I was shocked. Almost the entire left flank saw what happened and moral dropped drastically. No one wanted to fight, but our unit commanders realized we would all be slain if we didn't fight. So they rallied us, and called us back to fight for in the name of our deceased Vasil. As for Koson, he just pulled his entire bodyguard contingent to behind the lines, where I was. He wouldn’t give any commands until the very end of the battle. Everyone there was giving him dirty looks, as I was.
The unit commanders sent our horse archers to the front to rain hell on the enemy infantry as they were coming out of the gates.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/coveringfire.jpg
Our heavy horsemen charged in, inflicting and sustaining heavy casualties.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/horsecombat1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/horsecombat2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/horsecombat3.jpg
Then the enemy began to regroup, as did we.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemymeneuvering.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemymeneuvering2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/regrouping.jpg
We also managed to surround another group of elites.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyelitessurrounded.jpg
They began to huddle in one big group, and our Thraikians managed to get behind them, and the slaughter began.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraciansslicing.jpg
They began to retreat a bit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/running.jpg
Soon, there weren’t many Makedonian forces left, just the enemy general and a unit of archers, which were soon finished with.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/doomed.jpg
Finally, their enemy general was all alone… and soon in great peril.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/attackingthierenemygeneral.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-7.jpg
The remaining enemy units were retreating into their town, and the day was for the most part won, but here Koson did something disgusting: he sent the most loyal unit to our former Vasil, a unit of Skythian Noble Heavy Cavalry, into the city to chase after the enemy- with no backup! They got burned alive! We watched the entire thing as they poured boiling oil on them as they entered, and as they were cutting down some enemies, Koson recalled them, and the enemy poured oil on them again as they came out! Only a few came out of it alive!
Most of us were sobbing as it was going on.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/burningup.jpg
It was all for naught, because no one would try to attack the gate again for fear of the oil, and none of the Makedonians were coming out! It was a stalemate.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/doorsclosed.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycowards.jpg
When the battle was over, and the city finally surrendered, we looked over the carnage. It was immense.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage2-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage3-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage4-1.jpg
And we lost many as well, including our beloved Vasil, which made the amount off casualties even greater. It's a good thing my father didn't live long enough to see this!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-12.jpg
We killed every single person who was manning the gates for pouring oil on our men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/revenge.jpg
With that, Koson per Drobeta became our new Vasil, and he promised a better, stronger, Getic Confederation, but we weren’t too sure about that, considering he forbade anyone to publicly mourn for Zyraxes, claiming that Zyraxes per Dokidava was born out of wedlock, which he wasn’t, and never deserved to be king in the first place.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newfactionleader.jpg
He also chose his son as the heir, which was ok with us, because we all knew Tarsa is a wise and thoughtful person, unlike his father.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newheir.jpg
With that, the most turbulent year was over. No one knew how much longer the Getai would remain a confederation with Koson in charge……

Chapter 26: A foreboding future
A week after Koson took power, he feigned a national emergency and suspended all civil liberties.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/uhoh.jpg
he also turned our great confederacy into a dictatorship, only ruled by him, and he had full control of the military, which he used to his advantage.
most people thought this was ok, since he told us it was just temporary, but we were wrong.
he soon made them permanent, and is sending his secret police to arrest all opposition. i, Gudila per Drobeta, am fearful because i am one of them, even though i am only 16 years of age. i am hiding at a friends house as i write you this letter. any moment now, the police will open the door and arrest me for crimes against the regime.

Chapter 27- The Romani Threat
After a year of being in prison, I, as with most of the other “political prisoners,” have been let out on good behavior. It seems as if a lot went on in the year I was gone, or at least that’s what a friend told me. Koson also re-instated the Council on the threat of civil war.
A month after I was thrown in jail by the Drobeta regime, Koson tried to lead his troops to attack the Koinon Hellenon.
It failed because his troops refused to betray an ally.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/vasilmovingout.jpg
We discovered a Pontos spy in Tylis. Koson was rebuked by the Council as to how w let our guards down in Thraikia. But finding a spy in Tylis wasn’t the worst of things. Pontos began a siege on Byzantion and our sworn enemies took hold of Pergamon, but I doubt they will hold it for long.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/asiaminor236.jpg
But there was an incident that almost tore the confederation apart.
In the fall of 236, two months before I was released, patrols discovered a large Romani army on the outskirts of Sarmiszegethusa, which only had a modest garrison.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanithreatatfirst.jpg
We sent out the garrison to perform maneuvers in sight of their camp. They hung about until winter approached, then retreated to the outskirts of Singidunum, where another Romani army merged with it.
The alarm was raised, and members of the garrisons of Naissos and Serdike headed towards the intruders.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/situationwinter237.jpg
But before any violence erupted, our diplomats found their weakness: money.
For a cost of 50,000 mnai, which Koson per Drobeta provided out of his own pockets, the Romani army defected to our side. How he got that much money no one stopped to consider at the time. Meanwhile we sent the bribed army to the Bosporus where they would do little harm, if any at all. We would “deal” with them later.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanithreatended.jpg
Bask in Buridava, the Council was in chaos. The Romani, the second most powerful nation after us, has their eyes on our provinces. Representatives from Sarmiszegethusa and Singidunum demanded to know why the intruders weren’t detected until they were at the doors of Sarmiszegethusa. Security had been lax in those areas, due to the offensive in the Hellas. As a result, the chief of intelligence, Rhexmaxos per Buridava, was relived of his duties.
It would have been so easy for the Romani to have invaded and taken those two vital trade cities. The council demanded action from our new Vasil, or Sarmiszegethusa and Singidunum would secede from the confederation.
But a Vasil who is in the south isn’t much help in the north, for as soon as he sent the 50,000 mnai to bribe the Romani with, he returned to Demetrias to plan for the invasion of Chalkis, the last Makedonian holding in Europe. When he presented his plans, which would require taking forces from central Thraikia to Hellas, to the Council, it was immediately vetoed. The Council demanded that he first deal with the “Romani dilemma,” as they dubbed it, and they wouldn’t release the forces to him until he took care of it with it, or at least left enough forces to deal with an invasion when it came. Furthermore, it needed the forces in Thraikia to deal with Pontos if they made a move towards Tylis. Ceding to the Council, Koson ordered for a full strength army to be sent near the border towns with the Romani. He also implemented a draft, which probably is the reason why he let so many political prisoners out of prison. We need as many able-bodied people as possible.
The “Romani dilemma” in the west wasn’t the only thing that was on the minds of the Council. To the southeast, Epeiros was in a stalemate with its war with the Romani, and its armies were waiting around on the coast, apparently waiting for the order to attack Thermon, Pella, or the Romani in the north. We prayed that it wasn’t us. Those elephants look mean.
To make matters worse, it seems as if the Koinon Hellenon are preparing for war with someone. Hopefully they would take Chalkis so we can concentrate all of our forces to the west and the north. It was a trying time, but I am confident we will get through it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/looksouth.jpg
The Koinon will probably betray you and siege Chalkis if you take it. :smash:

Chapter 28- Council in Session
In the spring of 236, the Council sent spies to the south of Hellas, where the Koinon Hellenon, our allies, resided. There they discovered a huge army near Korinthos and another one near Athenai.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/hellas.jpg
It was a matter of great concern to the Council. Where was it headed? It was undoubtedly waiting orders from the Southern Hellenic Assembly, which ruled over the Greek city states in southern Greece. Based in Athenai, they were reliable allies- for now. However, the Spartan king, a powerful member of the assembly, did not take a very positive attitude towards our great confederation. He was reported to have even thrown a diplomat down a well when he didn't like the terms offered. In Sparte, the warriors were the diplomats.
Where this large army was headed was unknown to us. Hopefully it would be headed for Chalkis, but in the meantime, we had to prepare for the worst- an attack on Demetrias.
To prepare for an attack, we needed an army in position to respond.
One of the Councilmen from Serdike, named Kazurus, had an idea.
“Why don’t we send the general who we just bribed down there with a mercenary army? He has good commanding skills, as his record shows. He would be perfect to deal with any Koinon Hellenon problems.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newgeneral.jpg
A Councilman from Naissos, named Tauros, objected.
“What if he defects to the Koinon Hellenon, or even worse, Makedonia? We all know how he is partial to money. He betrayed his own homeland for money! There’s no telling what he will do! That would spell disaster for all our operations in the region.”
“Councilman Tauros has a point.” Said Councilman Kazurus. “So here is what I propose- we give him bodyguards of all men who are fiercely loyal to us, and they don’t allow any diplomats to approach him. Furthermore, let us offer him 10,000 mnai a season for him to stay with us.”
“Are you mad?! 10,000 mnai?! That will drain our treasury faster than a hole in a jug!”
“Then what would you rather us do? His army is the only one not tied up in some operation or another. Once we raise a suitable garrison for Demetrias we can move the field army that is defending it now out of there and onto its next destination, and the mercenary army can be disbanded or sent to the Bosporus to be forgotten, as we do with all of our useless mercenaries. ”
“What if we send the mercenary army to Ak-Ink, to impede the Romani advance?”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/akink.jpg
“Objection! Two problems: one, he may lose heart at fighting countrymen and switch side mid-battle, and two, he may betray us as he did them and go back to his homeland, turning over Ak-Ink to the Romani. The bloodshed will have been worthless. In addition, we can’t just send the mercenaries to the Bosporus. Many of them are really good units. Apparently, it's Borat, or whatever he calls himself, who is the problem.”
Councilman Diales, the son of the famous spy, spoke up.
“Why don’t we replace him with a general whose loyalty is in no doubt?”
The head of the Council, Tarsa per Drobeta, also the heir to the throne, spoke up.
“But then where will we put him? Have him reside in Buridava for the rest of his life? We can’t do that. We must put him in combat at some point or another, or he may defect because he feels that he wasn’t being appreciated!”
“So why don’t we just kill him and say he never existed?” Diales looked a bit excited, for he was also the newly appointed intelligence chief. “I could frame him for some crime so we won't have to go through all of this.”
“Diales, my father did not pay 40,000 mnai out of his own pocket just to have him killed off the bat. Besides, everyone already knows about the bribe, and they will wonder what happened to him. I have a better idea. Send him and his mercenary army into the mountains between Pella and Demetrias to help defend the area. Once we raise a suitable garrison for Demetrias, we pull the field army acting as a garrison out and replace “Borat” as commander of the defense forces in the region. Then we can send “Borat” constantly busy with dealing with the many small rebel camps that spring up from time to time.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/locationforborat.jpg
“Your excellence, that is a great idea. Will we also pay him the 10,000 mnai a season?”
“Yes, and Seuthles, write up his payments but make sure that the terms state that the payments will be terminated once he is moved out of Hellas. Once he is out of the area, it will be lowered to 5,000 mnai, the standard for all Getic generals.
“Yes sir, it will be done.”
“Meanwhile, we must decide on what to do with the Skythian Noble Cavalry. They are costing us and it's very hard to retrain them as we extend our lands further south. Therefore, I propose that we replace them as our standard cavalry with the Thraikian medium Cavalry.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newmaincav.jpg
“But they aren’t as strong as the Skythians and they have a very good record.”
“Seuthles, would you rather pay for them to journey the hundred miles or so north to retrain them?”
“No, I would rather not. So what do we do with the current units of Skythians we have?”
Councilman Diales spoke.
“Why don’t we send them all to the south and keep them in reserve? Surly it will take a while for the Thraikians to train and our armies in the south need to have their cavalry support When they are done training we can pull out all the Skythians and hold them in reserve in Thraikia in case we need a quick cavalry strike on an enemy army.”
“Wonderful idea Diales! Now we need to deal with the Makedonians. Should we invade Chalkis as soon as we have the forces?”
Tarseraden, the lead member of the defense council raised his opinion.
“Nay. The Koinon Hellenon has their eyes on Chalkis. By invading Chalkis, we may bring the wrath of their armies against us. We need allies now, not enemies. I suggest sending assassins to kill the Makedonian generals and family members, in an attempt to cause civil strife within the remnants of Makedonia.”
“Ornes, authorize the recruitment of assassins to carry out what Tarseraden said.”
“It will be done.”
But the head of finances had one last question.
“How much money should be allotted for this?”
“Seuthles, put aside 15,000 mnai for this. Meanwhile, do you think the people will take a 5% increase of taxes in order of national defense? Even with the 40,000 mnai a season tax from each city, it may not be enough to fund future operations.”
“I'm not sure though, but we can try and see what the response is.”
“You do that then. The last item on the agenda for the week: Duda, the client ruler of Singidunum has died. Should we appoint Duda II, his son, as governor? He has no real talent in much, even at the age of 30.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newDuda.jpg
Tarurones, the elderly head representative from Singidunum, approved of Duda II.
“Duda II, the eldest son of Duda, comes from a very popular family in Singidunum. Almost everyone likes him and his family. It would be a shame to not appoint him, even if he has no skills.”
“But isn’t there someone else who has more skills?”
“Don’t you remember? Duda, when appointed, had little skill himself. And look how well he turned out.”
“Nay, I don’t remember, for I was a little toddler when that happened. In any case, I accept your better judgment on this. Council dismissed.”
Thus ended the council session that would decide the course of our great confederation.

Chapter 29- The Covert War turns not so covert
Ever since the council made the decision to send assassins to Chalkis, things began to look very different in south Hellas.
Not only did we attempt killings on Makedonian generals and diplomats, we also sabotaged the Romani war machine, setting fire to every military barracks which we could find. We also killed the spies who penetrated our cities to gain valuable information to pass on to the Romani general who was able to penetrate so far into our territory. It was a covert war, no more, no less.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanassasinkilled1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanassasinkilled2.jpg
We had our failures and success, as all wars do.
Our list of failures was especially long.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thedead.jpg
(but really the list goes on for a few dozen more people....)
Our highlight of our successes was the assassination of the Makedonian heir-
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/killedmakheir.jpg
We also tracked their diplomats around Europe and killed them before they could approach any other nation for an alliance. We did our job, for they made none.
But there was one unfortunate happening that changed southern Hellas forever.
One of our assassins accidentally killed a Koinon Hellenon captain, who was taking vacation near Athenai and looked similar to a Makedonian captain who we were really targeting.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/killedKHcaptain.jpg
While war wasn’t directly declared, the Koinon Hellenon began sending its own spies and assassins to our cities. We did our best to catch them, but some got through and destroyed a few military installations.
But we struck back- hard.
We killed two Koinon Hellenon family members- one of them the heir and the defense minister for the Southern Hellenic Assembly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHfmilymemberkilled.jpg
While that was going on, the Koinon Hellenon sent generals throughout former Makedonian lands to scout. Our forces followed them closely. A few others followed them as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/following.jpg
Before they left, it was debated in the Council whether to detain them or not. In the end, we decided not o arrest them, on the risk of causing a war, which we weren’t prepared for.
But as a precautionary measure, we formed another army, led by Tarsa per Drobeta, to assist his father, who by that time had gathered his army and moved out of Demetrias.
Meanwhile, “Borat,” who was taking up residence in the mountains of the Balkans, got word that he was marked for death in Roma. Now there was no doubt of his loyalty to us.
We moved him and an army carefully made to defend Demetrias, undoubtedly the first target for the Koinon Hellenon forces.
The main army, under Koson was still being formed when our spies notified us of a large force being assembled next to Athenai. Apparently, the Southern Hellenic Assembly had decided on war. The south part of the confederation went under red alert, and all available forces were sent south. The war drums are drumming, and only time will tell who will beat it in the end.

Chapter 30- The Storm Arrives
In the summer of 230, the storm of war was right above us.
Instead of having Tarsa per Drobeta leading the second army, we let Amopaon Argeades, a former Hellen with a thirst for Koinon Hellenon blood, command the second army. He arrived in the area in the fall of 230. Tarsa would go back to Buridava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/arrivingforrevenge.jpg
But before anything could be done, we had to make alliances.
First, we hammered out a ceasefire between the Makedonians and us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ceasefireb-wGetaiMak.jpg
Then our diplomats pounded out alliances with Pontos and the Arche Seleukia.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newallainces.jpg
The alliance with Pontos would be handy, for they are our new neighbors…
After years of trying to take the town of Byzantion, in the winter of 231, they did it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/pontossuccess.jpg
Finally, taking it a step further, we even made an alliance with the Makedonians.
Sometimes the oldest enemies must unite against a common foe.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/allainceb-wswornenemies.jpg
But in the Spring of 229, the Romani declared war on us, with the assassination of our senior diplomat in. the area
He was felled by an arrow, and attached to the arrow was the message, “This is the arrow of war. It has stricken and will strike again. – From your ‘friends’ in Roma.”
The entire north of the area was put on high alert and spies were sent out to report of any Romani activity.
(actually, a 3 unit Romani army attacked Singidunum (easily repelled), but i felt it wasnt important enough to document here)
Finally, in the winter of 229, we moved in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ready-1.jpg
But we didn't make the first move- A large Koinon Hellenon army under a lowly captain attacked us in the spring of 228, along with a nearby Koinon Hellenon patrol.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-7.jpg
The battle began at around noon. The two sides waited for the fog to clear up a bit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook-1.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon advanced first.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/advancingenemy.jpg
We waited patiently, which was hard for the Galatian mercenaries who were excruciatingly bloodthirsty. They had waited for a battle this size for a long time.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/waiting-1.jpg
The battle started with a massive cavalry charge to our left flank. It was repelled with ease.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/beginningcavcharge.jpg
While their cavalry fell back, their hoplites and other heavy infantry crashed into our center.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/phalanxfighting.jpg
While they were fighting, we sent our Thracians and Galatians behind them, who wrecked havoc.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/screwed.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon cavalry rallied, and charged back, but were countered by our cavalry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavmelee.jpg
The ones that weren’t in the cavalry melee were attacked by the Galatians.
The cavalry was slaughtered by the Galatians, who craved for their blood.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/NFvslightcav.jpg
Soon all the enemy cavalry was in a rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/routingcav.jpg
It was at this time which we killed the captain of the larger of the two Koinon Hellenon forces on the field that day.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stenemycaptainkilled.jpg
Then the entire right and middle sections of the Koinon Hellenon army caved in and began routing. Shockingly, the elites were the ones who started the chain rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/routingelites.jpg
The mainstay of the Koinon Hellenon army followed, and was chased all the way by our men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasing-1.jpg
The remaining part of the Koinon Hellenon force was the left flank, which comprised of a unit of classical hoplites and some levy archers.
The battle on that flank was short, but sweet.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rightsidemelee.jpg
Shortly after the battle on that side started, a deft slice with a rhompaia felled the commander of the Koinon Hellenon patrol.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndenemycaptainkilled.jpg
And before long the remnants of the once-powerful Koinon Hellenon army was on the run.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastmen.jpg
The carnage was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage1-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage2-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage3-2.jpg
However, the carnage was on their side. The day was a resounding victory for us, only losing 150 men and they losing almost 2,230 men, a warning for all Hellenic forces to beware of armies who carry the Draco standard.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-13.jpg
But the past events had repercussions.
Not only did we lose two allies, we are now at war with two of the largest and most powerful nations on earth- the Koinon Hellenon and the Romani. And the Arche Seleukia recalled it's ambassador in Buridava because we would not break off diplomatic relations with the Sauromatae, who just invaded Arche Seleukia-controlled Media.
With the Sauromatae as our only reliable nearby ally, (Carthage is our other ally) our diplomatic stance in the world was precarious.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/diplomaticinfo.jpg
It had been an eventful past few years, but more were to surely come.
We just had to pray that Epeiros wouldn’t betray us now.

Chapter 31- More! More! More! War?
Soon after the first battle with the Koinon Hellenon, Koson retreated a bit to replace the few losses he sustained. He had a feeling the next battle was going to be large.
But in the meantime, the Council wanted to do something with all the mercenaries who had banded under the Getic flag. So they took another Romani turncoat, Servivus Cornelivs Blasio, was sent to take over Gáwjám~Bastarnoz.
There was no resistance and they gave up without a fight.
It was our first land acquisition in decades.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/alliedarmysuccessful.jpg
To the west, our scouts have spotted a train of Romani armies gathering near Ak-Ink.
We sent the local army, consisting of mostly mercenaries who have been lounging around for decades, to the area, to ward off attacks while we dealt with the Koinon Hellenon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanitrain.jpg
Back in the south, Koson and his army soon found themselves face-to-face with another Koinon Hellenon army commanded by the best generals in Greece.
Another battle was imminent.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/facingoff.jpg
Sure enough, it came.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/attackedagain.jpg
It was a clear, sunny day, so the battle had no delay in starting.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook-2.jpg
The Hellenic army, eager for revenge, surged forwards.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/redeeming.jpg
The enemy slingers, who rushed forward to harass us, soon found themselves under fire by some very eager horse archers.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyunderfire-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/shootingarrows.jpg
As that was going on, the Galatians and Thraikians awaited the enemy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/moreblood.jpg
They came soon enough. First to arrive were the generals and their bodyguards.
As the Thraikians waited to receive them, one of them surprised them by doing a final sprint- right past the Thraikians! However, the Thraikians weren't dumb, and gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/zoomingpast.jpg
The rest of the Hellenic army engaged our center, which easily held firm.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/centercombat.jpg
The Galatians had their hands full as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansengaged.jpg
On the right flank, a large cavalry engagement was going on, but that was soon overshadowed with the death of the head enemy general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stenemygeneraldead.jpg
The levies in the center lost heart and began to flee.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leviesfleeing.jpg
But his bodyguards still fought on.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikiansattakcingbodyguard.jpg
The other general was still embroiled in a vicious fight with our Komatai Epilektoi, and did not realize half the army was fleeing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/skirmsattackingotherbodyguards.jpg
Soon the main army was fleeing. Only the second general and his bodyguards remained in the fight.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mainarmyrouting.jpg
When the enemy general saw what was happening, he sounded the retreat. But as soon as he turned his back to us, we swooped down and killed him.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ridingdowngeneral.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndenemygeneraldead.jpg
The entire Hellenic army was in full retreat. It's a pity we didn't have many light cavalry units, so many of them got away. But the ones we did catch up to were slaughtered without mercy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ridingdown.jpg
The Galatians, on a bloodthirsty craze, chased them without mercy as well. At some points, they ran as fast as the cavalry to kill some of the fleeing units!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianschasing.jpg
Soon only a few remained on the battlefield.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/screwedagain.jpg
Bodies were everywhere- mostly Hellenic.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/fallenbanner.jpg
It was another great victory. Koson was regarded by many in the Southern Hellenic Assembly as the ”Scourge of Southern Hellas.”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-14.jpg
(is it just me or do the KH rout WAY to easily?)
The 412 remaining enemy soldiers fled to Athenai, telling the Southern Hellenic Assembly of the horrible defeat they suffered under the swords of Getic soldiers.
With the defeat of the best-trained Hellenic army in the region, it seems as if nothing can stop us now!

Chapter 32- The Romani move in- kind of….
It seems as if this decade is a very turbulent one- a battle at least every two seasons.
A few weeks after our resounding victory over the Koinon Hellenon, a modest army under the brother of one of the generals we bribed passed by our army on the border and besieged Sarmiszegethusa.
Our army in the region followed eagerly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newthreat.jpg
When the army got there and offered battle, the Romani retreated a bit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyretreating-1.jpg
We pursued them further, until we forced them into battle using some quick maneuvering.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-8.jpg
It was another clear day, with a gorgeous view of Mt. Oroles, named after our greatest Vasil.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook1.jpg
The Romani, being terrified after hearing what happened to the Koinon Hellenon armies a few months earlier, held back. Thus, we had to move in ourselves. Our horse archers went in first, raining hell on the Romani.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAsfireing.jpg
The Romani patiently took the fire. Like men, or like babies, we didn't know.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/takingfire.jpg
Then the Romani cavalry began to advance. Fearing that our valuable skirmishers would be able to get out in time, Rhemaxos per Drobeta ordered the skirmishers back, and soon after the slingers. The Galatian short swordsmen would take their place.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/movingforwards.jpg
Soon enough, the Romani charged.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanicharge.jpg
The attack was repulsed easily enough, but the attack was soon followed by the Romani infantry, many of them Gallic mercenaries.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansinfight.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansinfight2.jpg
There the fight wasn’t as easy, and we had to send in the Thraikians and the Thraikian Assault Infantry to assist them.
Soon, a vicious fight was occurring, involving the highest echelons of the Romani ruling class to the lowly Gallic peasant.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/viciousfight.jpg
Eventually, with the help of some last minute reinforcements, we pushed the Romani back, causing a general rout in the Romani ranks. The Thraikian medium cavalry remained to finish off the Romani general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikiansattackingenemygen.jpg
The Thraikians failed, because Romani general fled like a coward off the battlefield before we could kill him.
Only a few mercenary Greeks remained, attacked on all sides by our men.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastremnants.jpg
Our horsemen rode the enemy down, leaving few.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastmen-1.jpg
As with all battles, the carnage was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage1-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage2-3.jpg
But the day wasn’t fruitless- we left only 50 soldiers and the Romani general alive. But soon they would be dead as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-15.jpg
Immediately after the battle, we sent hordes of peasants who could shoot a bow to the woods around the battle site. The bounty for the Romani generals death was 1500 mnai.
Soon, a large amount of the bounty hunters found him and the remnants of his army in a small valley.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/archers.jpg
They slaughtered the Romani without mercy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-8.jpg
Only two men remained. We assume they fled back to Roma, but in any case, they weren't heard from again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/verylast2men.jpg
But there wasn’t much time for celebration. Another Romani army, twice as large as the last, was approaching.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanisapproaching.jpg
Even as they approached, we were literally staring at the faces of yet another Koinon Hellenon army, destined for destruction.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/statusofthesouth-225.jpg
It was going to be a turbulent decade indeed.

Chapter 33- Yet another battle….
In the fall of 225, the Koinon Hellenon attacked us….. again…..
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-9.jpg
Ironically, this was the exact same place where we fought only two seasons ago. To “spice things up,” we hid half of our army in the woods, but still kept roughly the same formations.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook-3.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon surged forwards in their typical manner.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/surgingforward.jpg
They all attacked our lines at once.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bracing.jpg
The slingers and archers, who were harassing our men, had to go. So we sent our cavalry to deal with them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rushingtoengageskirms.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon elite hoplites, marching by our lines to attack our cavalry, were ambushed by hiding Thraikians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ambush-1.jpg
The Galatians protected our left flank, which seems to get most of the action.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansattacking.jpg
All the while, our horse archers laid down a steady stream of fire.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAsamongthetrees.jpg
But one unit of elite hoplites slipped past the Thraikians. Our Skythians engaged them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/skythiansvselitehoplites.jpg
A few yards ahead, the Galatians were running into trouble. A few units of slingers were attacking them while infantry kept them pinned down.
The Thraikians, having left the cavalry to finish off the routing elite hoplites, joined the Galatians in the fight to hold the left flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansandthraikiansside-by-side.jpg
The Thraikians and Galatians on the right side, who were idle, ran along the lines and joined their brothers on the left flank.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/flanking-1.jpg
Soon most of the enemy line crumbled, even before we killed their captain, who was killed trying to rally his routing army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ridingdown-1.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycaptaindead-1.jpg
Soon there was but two enemy units left. Our elite skirmishers took care of one of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/skirmsinbattle.jpg
Our mercenary Greek cavalry took care of the other unit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chargingenemyskirms.jpg
Soon they routed as well, and our men pursued them, along with the rest of the enemy army, who were in full flight.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/fleeing.jpg
Few remained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/alone.jpg
The line had held, as it always did.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lineheldfirm.jpg
But at what cost? Indeed, we slew 2066 enemy soldiers, but we had lost more men to Koinon Hellenon arms than ever before.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-16.jpg
The butchery was great.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thecarnage.jpg
But there was no time to retrain. Another Koinon Hellenon army, led by the Koinon Hellenon faction leader, was upon Koson and his battle-worn army. They looked more determined than ever, but they were sure to fall, just as the rest.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/stausofthesouth-fall225.jpg
In the north, there was going to be another battle soon, for those land-hungry Romani will never learn that we Getai are all-powerful!

Chapter 34- A close repeat of a battle (or, our enemies must have failed creativity class)
We thought that in the winter of 225 they would attack us, but we were wrong. They made winter quarters a few miles away, and then when spring came, they offered battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-10.jpg
As if the gods willed it, it was the exact same place where they attacked us first exactly 3 years ago. It seems as if they were hungry for our blood, but we were hungrier.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/anotheroverlook.jpg
The battle began with a mass cavalry charge by the Koinon Hellenon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalrycharge.jpg
Our men, sensing that the enemy was gaining momentum with the downhill, braced for the impact.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bracing-1.jpg
One again, they concentrated on our left flank. Our Galatians and Thraikians, already used to things like this, fended them off easily.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansvscavalry.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thessaliansvsthraikians.jpg
In the center, the phalanxes held off the cavalry just as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/holdingoff.jpg
At that time, the enemy infantry advanced, along with the enemy faction leader, who had took power a few months earlier.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/infantrymovingforwards.jpg
As the lines began to close, he sent an order to the phalanx at the very end of the left flank. For the first time in any battle which he commanded, a phalanx unit advance on the enemy. I this case, it was upon the backs on the enemy cavalry. Indeed, they advanced, and chewed up the enemy cavalry pretty badly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/phalanxadvancing.jpg
At the same moment that the phalanx routed the remains of the enemy cavalry, the Koinon Hellenon heavy infantry, with the enemy general at the front, crashed with our lines. By the time that they saw the Thraikians charging their rear, it was too late. They were surrounded.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bodyguardssurrounded.jpg
Ironically, as this was happening, the clouds changed from a pearly white to an overcast sky, which soon gave way to rain.
Meanwhile, on the extreme left, an enemy unit of light hoplites tried to go around our rear to attack our Vasil. They did not see the unit of elite skirmishers waiting in ambush for them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ambushersbeingambushed.jpg
As that was going on, we killed the Koinon Hellenon faction leader.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyFLdead.jpg
There was a mass rout. Every solider under the Draco, the symbol of the Dacians, gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/skrimsinpursuit.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/massrout.jpg
Even the steppe cavalry, who preferred to distance themselves from the bloodshed, took part in the pursuit.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/steppecavalryridingdown.jpg
We struck total fear in the enemy as the fled for their lives.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/fleeing-1.jpg
The enemy Galatians, who had decided to side wit the Koinon Hellenon for money reasons, was also ruthlessly chased down. None survived. Even their own brothers took part in their slaughter.
It was sad to see brother killing brother, but we had to make them an example for all Celtic and Galatian mercenaries- join us or face certain death.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygalatiansrouting.jpg
Soon there was only a unit of archers left of the enemy.
Our Galatians, more bloodthirsty than ever, pursued them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianscharginglastremnants.jpg
Soon of the unit of archers, only two remained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/last2men.jpg
Then only one.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastman-1.jpg
And then there were none.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastmandead.jpg
What a victory! The last sizeable Koinon Hellenon army had been defeated!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-17.jpg
In fact, no one got out alive. The 25 survivors made a U- turn and met our Vasil, who allowed them to live in Demetrias, where they could do no harm.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyarmyrouts.jpg
No longer were we just a small, insignificant nation, we were a world power, a force to reckoned with. We had defeated them in no fewer than four large battles, all of them with negligible casualties. Now it was time to strike the deathblow to those babies who cower behind the walls in Athenai, Korinthos, and Sparte!

Wow that was a flurry of updates there Hooah! Your AAR is doing so well. Can you post a screen of where everyone is in the world? What are the other nations doing if you can provide that info? I love the photoshop job of that guys pike in his skull. Pretty funny. I like the Leonidas bit too! Keep it up and have fun on your vacation!
Haha!

yay! post #200!
thanks for the comments, keep them coming!
on another note, i think ill update tomorrow, next teusday, then finally on next thursday, the last update of the summer for me- school starts of the 18th. ~:(
on another note, i need everyones opinion and suggestions-
after beating the KH, i dont know where to go. ill definitely take over chalkis after i take over Athenai (i dont know how im going to defeat those two full stacks though.... )
i want to hear everyones (yes i mean everyone!) where i should go next.
my options:
1) attack Epeiros
2) attack and puch back the romani to Italy
3) take over byzantium, then push into asia minor
4) a sea-borne invasion of the makedonian island next to pergamon (forgot the name)
5) a sea-borne invasion of southern italy
6) the choice is yours......
the choice is yours- i have no isea where to go next, so it up to you....:sweatdrop:
I'd say you should conquer Epeiros and the rest of the Balkans first, and then head into Asia Minor and beat up Pontos.
That is, I'd say that if this was a serious AAR.
I think hilarity would ensue if you took 2 or 3 stacks and conquered a huge city like Antioch, Carthage, Alexandria, or Rome. Or, for alternative laughs, conquer the "land of past hooahguy AARs", and go straight for Baktria!
Go for the Romani....pleeeez!
Go for option 2 and 5! Romans are always fun to fight and it is easy to make fun of the Romans:charge:

Chapter 35- Into South Hellas
After gathering a modest-size army under a decent governor, Koson sent the order for the city of Korinthos to be taken.
With the Koson’s army providing cover, the army marched into Korinthos virtually unopposed. Only the governor and a few bodyguards stood at the gate at a very feeble attempt to prevent us from entering. We shot them with a hundreds arrows, and we marched in. Then started the looting and killing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thetake-over.jpg
When Koson heard what was happening, he rushed in with his loyal bodyguard, and guarded the Statue of Zeus, as well as the city records.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/templeofzeus.jpg
Among the maps and books in the city records building, we found a map of the world that was made only a few weeks before. We made a subtle change on the map regarding the ownership of a certain city in south Hellas, however.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/theworld-223.jpg
As that was happening, we sent Amopaon Argeades with his army to besiege the Koinon Hellenon capital, Sparte.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/attackingsparte.jpg
Sparte was defended by some very well trained hoplites, including the fabled Spartans.
They were commanded by a very able general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/notsocrazy.jpg
But another general there, who was only a general because he was born into the royal family, was not so able. In fact, most say that he is crazy.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/crazyguy.jpg
A few dozen miles eastwards, the Makedonians have established themselves as a world power, having taken Nikaia from Pontos. It was possible that we would go to war with the Makedonians sooner than we thought.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makstakeover.jpg
Then we got another Hellenic deserter. A Koinon Hellenon general based in Asia Minor came to one of our diplomats in the area, requesting that he, along with his entire army, join our side. When we asked why, he said because the Koinon Hellenon was doomed to failure and he didn't want to fall into the hands of less merciful hands of the Arche Seleukia or the Makedonians.
Once again, we accepted, for the troops under his command were very valuable to us.
But we can never be too sure with Greeks. Just in case, we replaced his bodyguard with fiercely loyal Getic soldiers, and he was under watch constantly, just as were all generals who defect to our side.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/turncoatarmygeneral.jpg
On the northern front, things were pretty calm, except for a small Romani army trying to bypass our forces there and attacking Singidunum from the back. He was thwarted by our spies who reported the Romani movements.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/watching-1.jpg
Besides the aforementioned events, the year 223 was pretty uneventful, compared to the past seven years.

Chapter 36- Peace on some fronts?
Finally, in the summer of 222, exactly 50 years since Zalmodegikos per Buridava decided to go upon a great crusade to unite the tribes of Dacia and beyond, Sparte fell. It signified the fall in Hellenic dominance forever in the region. No longer are the Spartans the most feared force in the world. The Thraikians armed with Rhompaia have taken their place.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/spartefalling.jpg
The southernmost part of the Hellas is ours!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/southernhellasours.jpg
But more happened in 222 than meets the eye.
We became allies with the Sweboz, for one thing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/sweboz-getaialliance.jpg
Epeiros and the Romani declared war on each other was another thing.
War was declared after the Epeirote huge stack advanced on Dalminion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/warb-wenemyandallies.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/epirotebigstackadvancing.jpg
But they soon broke the siege after something far more important convinced them to go away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/theattackfromtheepirotestack.jpg
The diplomacy in that year was very complicated, with backstabbing, treaties and submissions everywhere.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/complicateddiplomacy.jpg
Over in Asia Minor, the Makedonians lost a decisive battle near Nikaia, crippling their power in the region.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/maksdefeated.jpg
We killed a Koinon Hellenon general who liked to hang around the forest that borders the territory which Demetrias is in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/killedKHFM.jpg
But the most important even that happened was that our we sat down with the Romani and hammered out a ceasefire with them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ceasefire.jpg
Funny how that came about though-
At first, our scouts spotted a huge Romani army coming our way. Rhemaxos sped to the area.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/stand-off.jpg
It was at that time that they came to us that they wanted a cease-fire. Apparently, the Romani wanted us to make sure we accepted. Like we needed to be persuaded much!
After the ceasefire was declared, the Romani stacks went away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/alone-fornow.jpg
But none of these things were significant, for the events of next year sent shockwaves throughout our lands, and gave the Koinon Hellenon a bit of a breather while we sorted things out….

Chapter 37- A New Leader
Our northernmost outposts saw the re-appearance of that huge Romani army. This time, it headed north. Rhemaxos kept an eye out for them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanihorde.jpg
They took over a small town of not much importance.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romaniheadnorth.jpg
But the winter that followed we saw the Romani army appear again- this time in our lands!
Rhemaxos called for help, for he didn't know how many other armies the Romani had hiding in the area, which could pop out for anytime.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romaniinvading.jpg
The Romani camped out there for an entire year before anyone acted. All of our diplomats were either in Asia Minor or in South Hellas, and the only diplomat there died five years ago. For that year, we waited for them to make a move. We stayed in view of them all the time. Rhemaxos tried to confront them himself to talk to them, but they refused. They would have no talks with any man who was responsible for the shed of Romani blood, which Rhemaxos was guilty of.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/facingoffwithromani.jpg
When diplomats got to them, asking why they were there. What they were told shocked us: apparently, the Romani weren’t able to pass the word along to this army soon enough that there was a ceasefire in place. The original order was to defeat Rhemaxos then attack Buridava, and to kill every council member that they could get their hands on. In the end, we paid them a small amount for them to go away.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanileave.jpg
At the same time, an agent got a lucky knife throw at the Koinon Hellenon faction leader while he was at a public meeting in Athenai. The assassin escaped without a scratch.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/deathofKHfactionleader.jpg
Across the world, we got word that a faction we had no real knowledge of, the Saka Rauka, have been destroyed by the Baktrians, another Hellenic nation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/sakadestroyed.jpg
However, the most shocking thing that happened was that in the spring of 220, Koson per Drobeta, the last member of the Drobeta family that was alive when Oroles per Drobeta was Vasil, died from a sickness he acquired during the winter. The old, battle weary Vasil would never get to see the destruction of the Koinon Hellenon, who he swore to destroy, but he did get the satisfaction of crushing four large Koinon Hellenon armies.
It was the end of an era.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/kosondead.jpg
While we didn't acquire much land, we had grown into a superpower in the world.
The world at the time of his death:
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/theworldatkosonsdeath.jpg
Tarsa per Drobeta took the oath a few days later, and became our fifth Vasil.
The vow of the Vasil
With the will of the Council, I will take authority of this great nation, and I alone will bear responsibility should misfortune befall us. With Gebeleizis by my side, I will lead the armies of the Getai to greatness and fortune. With the help of Hero, no Getic city shall fall under my watch. I pray that Zalmoxis will keep the law of the land on my side, as well as Bendis, who will grant the mothers of the land fertility and prosperous crops. I will obey the will of the Council, who will in turn obey the will of the people whom I am trusted to protect. With the transfer of the Sword of the King, originally owned by Zalmodegikos per Buridava, our founder, I assume power of the kingship on my head. May Gebeleizis assist me in this great task which I am about to embark on. And so I swear on this day that all that I have attested to you now, I will do to the best of my ability. Amen.
With that, the new leader takes the sword and sacrifices a goat to Gebeleizis, regarded as the king of all the Getic and Thraikian gods.
Unfortunately, Tarsa is the last descendant of Oroles who still bears the name “Drobeta.”
The heir to the throne was named- it would be Antyros per Aedava, a cousin of Tarsa.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newfactionheir-1.jpg
The first undertaking for Tarsa was to take over the rest of the Hellas.
The Koinon Hellenon was still mostly bottled up in Athenai, where they had retrained the remnants of the survivors of the battles which we crushed them in.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHlaststandinhellas.jpg
After we killed the Koinon Hellenon faction leader, we thought we had killed the Koinon Hellenon royal family. We hadn’t. Under cover in Rhodos and in Asia Minor were two more Koinon Hellenon family members, one of which was adopted.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHsurvivingFM.jpg
They announced that the Koinon Hellenon were to make a new beginning in Asia Minor.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHnewbeginningsinAsiaminor.jpg
And when we did take over Athenai, we would have to deal with the Makedonians, who have grown very, very strong over the years.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makbigstacks.jpg
How we would deal with them was unknown, but that was to be determined soon, for the 220’s have been a very violent year for us Getai. Sadly, it would only get more violent.

Chapter 38- The Battle for Athenai
The world around us was a busy place.
Epeiros decided to attack Dalminion again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/epeirosattackingagain.jpg
Pontos besieged Nikaia, in an attempt to take it back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/violencenearnikaia.jpg
In the fall of 220, in the months before winter and the supplies of Athenai dwindling because of our blockade of their port, they were forced into open combat with us.
For the first time ever, they outnumbered us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/finalbattlestarting.jpg
It was a beautiful day for a massacre. We could see Athenai a mile or two away, and we could even Chalks across the channel.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook-4.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/Chalkisindistance.jpg
The first enemy army, quite small, advanced.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/smallenemyarmyadvancing.jpg
We waited for them patiently, as our arrows whizzed to their targets.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/waiting-2.jpg
Abruptly, Tarsa ordered our horse archers to stop firing at the small army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/holdingfire.jpg
When they inquired as to why, he told them that they should save their arrows for the main army, which was coming up the hill, like sheep’s for slaughter.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mainarmyadvancing.jpg
When they got in range, he let loose with the butchery.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAslettingloose.jpg
At the same time, the smaller army, along with the cavalry elements of the larger one, crashed with our lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstcontact-3.jpg
Then the bodyguards attacked our lines, but even with their heavy spears and armor, they did negligible damage.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/bodyguardsattacking.jpg
Then the small army routed. The bodyguards followed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/firstenemyarmyrouting.jpg
We could not let the enemy general escape, so Tarsa told the horse archers to direct all their fire at him. They did, and he soon fell.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyFMdead.jpg
The captain of the main army from Athenai, advancing up the hill, soon followed, struck in the face by an arrow that bounced off a hoplite’s shield.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycaptaindead-2.jpg
At that moment, all the horse archers, who had held their fire for a bit, unleashed a torrent of arrows upon the main enemy army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/mainarmyunderfire.jpg
All of a sudden, the Galatians, who were fidgeting like crazy to get in combat, burst away without orders and attacked the enemy hoplites.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galtainsagainstorders.jpg
The Thraikians assumed that the order had been given to advance, so they followed.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikiansfollowing.jpg
Tarsa, unable to recall the Galatians and Thraikians on the right side, sent the Thraikians and Galatians on the left side to flank the reformed hoplites that were advancing to our lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leftsideflanking.jpg
The effect was devastating.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikiansgoingaroundtheback.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansflanking.jpg
They soon routed, and our men gave chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikianschasing.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianschasing-1.jpg
On the far left flank, way beyond the lines, a lone unit of Hellenic spearmen advanced slowly.
Our cavalry, spotting the threat, charged them, and quickly routed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalryattacking-1.jpg
Soon only a unit of Elite hoplites remained. We soon took care of them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/elitehoplitesunderfire.jpg
The entire enemy army was in confusion, and our entire army gave chase.

Soon there was only one man left, a mercenary.
We left him alive out of pity.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/loneman.jpg
The victory highlighted all our previous victories. We had lost very, very, few men, but the most important thing was that we killed almost their entire army!
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-18.jpg
The Koinon Hellenon was so afraid of us that they capitulated as soon as we came to the gates of Athenai with our victorious army. Tarsa took a victory lap around the city, then ordered that all the Southern Hellenic Assembly members, all of whom had decided to stay in Athenai, were to be beheaded and their heads were sent to Rhodos, the new capital. Apparently, the Southern Hellenic Assembly had put too much faith in their armies, and had paid dearly for it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/athenaifalling.jpg
Now the Koinon Hellenon was left with two provinces, both in Asia Minor. There they would regroup and lick their wounds.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thenewKH.jpg
All around the world, people heard of our victory over the Koinon Hellenon, and sent us congratulations on the victory. Even the Combined World Association, who gives out an award yearly to the strongest nation, gave us the award this year. For the past 50 or so years, the Arche Seleukia had won. The tables have turned on the Hellenic world.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/strongest.jpg
But there was still work to be done, and our power in the region was about to be contested.

Check out the last post in the tavern thread, Foot explains why it was closed. It's on the second page of the main forum.
I'll be sorry to see this AAR go hooahguy, even if your mighty empire did have 10 times as many soldiers as my rather less mighty but honest, cheat free Getic Kingdom can sustain.

Chapter 39: Into the Black Abyss (literally)
After we took over Athenai in 220, we looked further to the island of Euboia, where the last stronghold of the Makedonians in Europa, Chalkis, was.
Opposing us were two very strong Makedonian armies, and a well-defended Chalkis.
Tarsa per Drobeta moved his army to face the first of the Makedonian armies, commanded by the arrogant captain Meleagros.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/face-off.jpg
While that was going on, reports of a Koinon Hellenon colony over in the Iberian Peninsula came in. It seems as if our Carthaginian allies were having some fun with them as well.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/KHcolony.jpg
Even though we were rooting for Carthage, we didn't want to get embroiled into another war with the Koinon Hellenon. So we sent a diplomat to make peace with the Koinon Hellenon, and ensure that we wouldn’t be attacked with the few forces they had in Asia Minor. We got it.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cease-fire.jpg
The first Koinon-Getic War was over.
Officially, our Getic armies lost 749 men to Koinon Hellenon arms. We lost far more to disease that bred in the dirty Hellenic wine that our men foolishly drank when we looted their cities.
On the other hand, Getic weapons killed 10,923 Hellenic soldiers and their allies in the various field battles. Our military advisors tell us that for every Getic solider slain, we killed almost 15 Hellenic soldiers.
An unknown number of Hellenic garrison members died in defense of their cities, but they number in the thousands.
In Asia Minor, the Makedonians decide to wage war on the Koinon Hellenon, which isn’t bad at all for us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/makandKHwar.jpg
Back in Buridava, the Council called an emergency session. Instead of meeting in Buridava, they traveled to Demetrias, so Tarsa can react to any situation quicker.
Antyros per Aedava, the new Council leader, told the council of the situation. “Tarsa, our Vasil, is toe-to-toe with the Makedonian captain Meleagros and his army. Backing up Meleagros is another army under an unknown captain and the well-equipped garrison of Chalkis. My Vasil, can you confirm my summary?”
“Indeed. The situation is grave. The Makedonians are, as we speak, performing some maneuvers across the channel, and we can spot many boats that are being prepared. We assume that very soon the Makedonians will cross the channel and attack.”
Councilman Tauros, from Naissos (from chapter 28) spoke up.
“We should send the army under Rhemaxos that is stationed outside of Singidunum to the area to reinforce Tarsa. Rhemaxos isn’t doing anything there; only waiting for the Romani invasion hat will never come!”
Councilman Dapyx, from Singidunum, objected.
“Do you not remember what happened? We let our guard down in that area and my town almost paid the price! If it wasn’t for some emergency reserves rushed into the area, I wouldn’t be here today to object!”
Councilman Kazurus said,
“Why don’t we just save ourselves the trouble and attack immediately, and take what’s coming?”
“We can’t do that! We can’t be seen as the aggressors! It will ruin our already precarious reputation in the world!” said Antyros per Aedava.
Councilman Kazurus replied,
“With all due respect, Head of Council Antyros, we have a precarious reputation? I thought we were the most respected and powerful nation to date?”
“Negative, Councilman Kazurus, on the first part. While we are the most powerful nation to date, we are looked down upon by most of the Hellenic nations, especially Arche Seleukia, the biggest and most dominant Hellenic realm. We cannot afford to anger them.”
“Well then, do you have any suggestions? Anyone?”
Councilman Diales, also the intelligence chief, spoke up.
“I do. We send our best assassin, Skirtos per Zisnudava, to kill the well-liked captain Meleagros. With our luck, his death will provoke the Makedonian army to crossing the river and attacking us, and then we can defeat the Makedonian army. There will be no international criticism, since they attacked us and it will be seen as an act of defense on our part.”
Delighted, Antyros per Aedava, with the entire council, approved it immediately.
“Following the protocol for ordering an assassination, we must get the approval of the Vasil. So, my esteemed Vasil- do you approve of the assassination of Meleagros, the captain of the Makedonian army that threatens your army?”
Tarsa per Drobeta thought for a minute, smiled, and said:
“Kill him.”

Chapter 40: The Start of the 2nd Makedonian-Getic War
Sure enough, the Makedonians declared war on us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/wardeclared.jpg
But the invasion never came.
For two whole years we waited tensely as we watched the Makedonians do maneuvers across the channel.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/boring.jpg
“They’d better be a worthy foe if they are doing all this practicing” remarked an aide of Tarsa per Drobeta, the Vasil and the general.
To that Tarsa replied, “Oh, they can’t be much worse than the Koinon Hellenon!”
“Do we know, my Vasil?”
“Know what?”
“If the Makedonians are good fighters.”
“I’m pretty sure they are.”
“Well, we will see in the next battle, if it ever comes.”
“We will see, we will see.”
Tarsa became fed up with the Makedonians. Under the cover of nightfall, he moved his entire army, by boat, to the northern end of Euboia, to provoke the Makedonians into a battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/goingaround.jpg
It worked.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-11.jpg
The Makedonians were overly confident, or at least most of them, in victory.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyadvancing.jpg
It was a nice day, and we had a great view of our gallant navy, waiting offshore.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ournavy.jpg
Our horse archers opened fire with deadly volleys of steel-tipped arrows.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/HAslettingloose-1.jpg
But it didn't have much effect. The Makedonians learned from their mistakes, unlike the Koinon Hellenon, and rushed to close the lines as fast as they could.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/linesclosing.jpg
A few minutes after the lines collided, our left wing of cavalry burst out of the nearby cornfield to attack the enemy archers, which were harassing our Galatians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalrycharging.jpg
Speaking of Galatians, they got angry. For the first five minutes, the Galatians on the left flank were ordered to stand still, and wait for orders. In no time, they lost 30 men to the Makedonians harrowing waves of arrows.
Disobeying orders, they burst forth and went on a bloodbath, killing every Makedonian in sight. Not a single Galatian from the left flank fell after they burst forth from the lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatianscharging-1.jpg
On the other side of the battle, the Galatians saw their brothers charging, decided it was a good idea to follow their lead, and promptly routed a few units of Makedonian spearmen.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/galatiansrightflankcharging.jpg
In the middle, our ranks were having a difficult time defeating the Makedonian phalanxes.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/holdingout.jpg
It required a cavalry charge to rout them, along with the rest of the Makedonian army.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/hittingrear.jpg
Our lines then collapsed into confusion, everyone was rushing to chase after the routing Makedonians, and there was little order. Not even Tarsa could rein them.
It was a mass rout. Even our Vasil and his bodyguard, who usually stay out of the fight (after what happened to Zyraxes per Dokidava), took part in the chase.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FLtakingpartinmassrout.jpg
It was around then that we killed the Makedonian captain.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycaptainkilled.jpg
Finally, only a few remained, and our horse archers ran them down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasingdownlastmen.jpg
The battle was over, and a great Getic victory, but at what cost?
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-19.jpg
Indeed, we had defeated a large Makedonian force, but lost a bit over a third of the amount of men we lost in the entire Koinon-Getic War.
It was distressing for men who have only seen light losses their entire military career. The Galatians were especially hurt, inn numbers and prestige. For the first time ever, they lost a third of their numbers. They came to Tarsa with a request.
“O most noble and esteemed Vasil, we have a request.”
“What is it, my revered Galatians?”
“We would like to go back to Greece, to replace our numbers. We simply cannot function with only 80-90 men in each unit.”
“That’s reasonable. The only problem is that we cannot function without you Galatians either, so per your request, we will head back to the mainland during nightfall.”
“Thank you, my honored Vasil.”
So they went back, in the summer of 217, much to the astonishment of another large Makedonian army that marched up as the last boats were leaving.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/situationsummer217.jpg
Tarsa sent for reinforcements, and soon, after a bit of rest, they would be off again to confront the Makedonians.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/reinforcementsenroute.jpg
Back in Athenai, Tarsa was troubled.
“Oy gevalt, what have I done?”
“Sir, you did noting wrong. You led us without fail in the previous battle!” said his chief aide, Dizo.
“But I have ruined the reputation of the Galatians. I have failed them!”
“Sir, you did no such thing!”
“By forcing them to stand by and receive missile fire, and not send them out to close with the enemy early on, they hold me in low regard, as of now. This never happened under Koson, even Oroles!”
“My Vasil, maybe it is time for new tactics on the battlefield?”
“Yes, it is time for something new. Any suggestions?”
“Sir, I thought of one before the battle, and now I will present it to you.”
Dizo laid out a sheet of paper, detailing the plan.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newplan.jpg
“You see, my Vasil, no longer are the Thraikians and Galatians evenly distributed throughout. All of them are put on the far left flank. All our cavalry are put on the far right. Our phalanxes are put in a slight U-shape, and our Komatai Epilektoi are to defend their exposed flanks. Our steppe cavalry are to provide support from within the U-shape. You will be behind them, or amongst them, whichever is your choice.”
“I see, but how will this help?”
“When the enemy hit our lines, we send our cavalry and Galatians, along with the Thraikians, against the enemy all at once at the enemy’s flanks and rear, crushing them.”
“What if the Makedonians see our ploy and head for them instead of the main force?”
“We will play it by ear, my Vasil. If there are trees, we can hide them in there, until it is time to strike. Give it a try, my Vasil, and we will see if it works.”
“Against my better judgment, I will try it out. But if this plan fails, you will take responsibility, be arrested and tried for incompetence in battle. Do you understand?”
“Sir, what defines a failure? Defeat?”
“Defeat or more than 400 casualties on our side.”
“My Vasil…”
“Accept it, or the plan will not be tried. Too much to gamble in this plan. Our army is the finest in the world, not a group of guinea-pigs to be tested upon!”
“I understand, and I accept the responsibility.”
“Good luck, Dizo. For your own sake, I hope your plan succeeds. You are the best aide I have. Now this meeting is dismissed.”

Very, very interesting and one-of-a-kind AAR. Sort of a comic relief after reading all of those serous AARs. You have excellent humour and you never seem to run out of jokes. Keep up the good work!
I still don't get how you earn all of your money. You probably have something like -30-40,000 mnai per turn. What's RP anyway? Do you just enslave and partially raze every city you take?

Chapter 41, Part 1: The Second Battle of the Euboian Hills
We got a scare at the end of the year. A Pontic army moved to positions on the continent.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/ponticarmy.jpg
We rushed our northern army to rush to the area.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rushing.jpg
When asked if this will endanger the settlements near our border with the Romani, the council said that our spies report that the Romani are tied up in Gaul, waging war with the Aedui. But we would still have to keep a watchful eye on our border.
Back in Greece, Tarsa moved his army to the northern end of Euboia.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/backinsidethefire.jpg
A very large Makedonian force attacked us, almost immediately after landing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-12.jpg
We got into our positions.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/overlook-5.jpg
We switched our forces around a bit though.
Our cavalry were on the left,
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leftflank.jpg
And the Galatians and Thraikians on the right, because of the farmhouse on the right flank could be used as a hideout for them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/rightflank.jpg
The battle began with a move by some Makedonian skirmishers moving against our cavalry wing. We quickly routed them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/earlyrouting.jpg
Then some heavy cavalry tried to flank our main formation.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemycavflanking.jpg
They were swarming our Komatai Epilektoi, so Tarsa charged them, routing them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/FLcharging.jpg
The Makedonians soon met our lines, and the fiercest battle we had ever had developed. It began on the left flank, when Thraikian mercenaries met our Komatai Epilektoi.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/leftflankcombat.jpg
Their phalangites met our Dacian phalanxes, and we soon saw that they were a match for our men, especially in the middle of our lines.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/closetobreaking.jpg
We could not send in our Galatians and Thraikians because they were tied up chasing down some hoplites and Peltastai.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/tiedup.jpg
Our middle was very hard pressed, and many were nervous about it breaking, and having the middle collapse.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/hardpressed.jpg
The situation got very desperate. We were about to break.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/abouttobreak.jpg
At about that time, our cavalry began rolling up the enemy flank, routing all of them in their path.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavrollingupenemyflank.jpg
They soon got to the scene, and our phalangites got some relief.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/relief.jpg
But it wasn’t enough. The Makedonians were about to break through our lines, being pushed on from the back by our cavalry. Tarsa sent in all our horse archers, who were out of arrows, to plug the gap. They did, and paid for it dearly.
One unit of horse archers only had 3 men left, and they laid down their arms and routed, refusing to come back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/fattiesrout.jpg
Soon after that, our men caught the Makedonian commander, and killed him.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemygeneraldead-9.jpg
Now everyone was thrown into confusion. Half of the Makedonians were routing, and the other half were rushing to our lines, trying to break them. Our forces weren't sure f we were winning or if we were fighting a losing battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/confusion.jpg
After some much hard fighting, we killed most of the enemy force. The carnage was great, and a great deal of vomit was mixed in with the blood that was spilled on that day.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage-3.jpg
Nevertheless, we won, at a very great cost.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-20.jpg
A day later, back in the camp, Tarsa was furious.
“DIZO! YOU ARE SO DEAD!”
“Sir, it wasn’t the plans fault- they put all their pressure on our center.”
“That is exactly the point! At least with the normal deployment, their pressure was evenly distributed. But with your dumb plan, they put all their pressure on the center and some on the flanks as well so we couldn’t reinforce. Also, the house which we used to hide the Galatians and Thraikians provided a bottleneck for our forces, so we couldn’t rush them to the area. Dizo, I hate to say this, but you gave me your word that this plan would work. It failed; we suffered 791 casualties, more than in all the battles against the Koinon Hellenon! Not only that, a unit of Steppe horse archers left our army! Others may follow our example. Then what will we do?!”
“Sir, there was nothing I could do to prevent that! It was your fault that you sent in the Steppe cavalry to plug in the gap, and not some other unit!”
“Excuse me! Every other unit was tied up! The situation was desperate!”
“You could have held on for a few more minutes! The fault was yours, not mine!”
“INSUBORDINATION! Don’t you DARE talk to me that way! I am your king, not your colleague!”
“I am sorry, my Vasil, but I really couldn’t have predicted this would happen.”
“I know, Dizo. Since I know the plan sounded good, I won't have you arrested for incompetence in battle, but I will demote you, and replace you with someone better.”
A messenger rode up, and whispered something to Tarsa.
“This meeting must end now. Dizo, stay in the camp and watch over it. Another Makedonian army has arrayed for battle against us.”

Chapter 41, Part 2: The Third Battle of the Euboian Hills
Tarsa rushed from his tent and got on his horse. He galloped around the camp, yelling “Men, we are confronted with battle! Arise! Meet the enemy! Follow me!”
Not a man didn't follow their Vasil.
We battle was very much in their favor.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-13.jpg
sorry, this battle was very tense, so i didnt get many pictures....
We waited tensely in our normal battle positions.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/waiting-3.jpg
All of a sudden, we noticed some Makedonian cavalry amassing on our left flank.
We sent our left flank cavalry against them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/charging-2.jpg
It was a trap. Some enemy spearmen were waiting to intercept them, but our men deftly avoided them and continued the chase.
Surprisingly, Tarsa rode up to the front of the lines, spurred his horse, raised his sword, and ordered a general advance, which hasn’t been done since Oroles has been our Vasil.
Our lines met.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/linesfighting.jpg
The Makedonians were surprised, and completely forgot about our cavalry who were now behind them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/swingingaround.jpg
As our men were fighting against the Makedonians, a few noticed our cavalry thundering back, towards the Makedonians, and let out a giant cheer.
Our cavalry hit the enemy so hard, their lines crumbled immediately, and we ruthlessly chased them down.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasingdown-1.jpg
As the day before, there was much killing.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carnage-4.jpg
The day was won, partially because of Tarsa’s courageous order to advance.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-21.jpg
We chased them down all the way to Chalkis, and we entered the city, victorious.
With that, all Makedonian presence in Europe was eliminated.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chalkistaken.jpg
Makedonian ambassadors came to us, asking for peace. Considering that we no loner had any reason to attack them, we accepted.

The 2nd Makedonian-Getic War was over.
We had lost 1,276 men, and had inflicted 9,840 casualties on the Makedonians.
We had lost more men than in any other war we waged, and we had killed less than the Koinon-Getic War, which has more battles and went on for longer than the 2nd Makedonian-Getic War.
But for now, we would have peace, gods willing, and our army would rest and refit, and get replacements.
When Tarsa was asked about whom we would conquer next, all he replied was, “Look west, my friend, look west.”

Chapter 42: The Real “Red Scare”
With the conclusion of the 2nd Makedonian-Getic War, we had to concentrate on rebuilding our forces. It would take time, but we had to do it. We also demilitarized most of southern Hellas. We sent Borat, with his army, to watch the border with Pontos. We sent Rhemaxos back to watch the border with the Romani.
But then something came up. Rhemaxos was getting old, and we needed a replacement.
We found one in Kallatis, named Spargapeithes per Rekidava.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newcommander.jpg
We also got new neighbors up north, when the Hai took over Tanais.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newnieghbors.jpg
It didn't even take a season for the Romani to make our lookouts suspicious of their activities.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/suspicious.jpg
Sure enough, they attacked us, starting the 2nd Romani-Getic war.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stbattlestarting.jpg
The Romani amassed against us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romaniamassing.jpg
As with the battle before, Spargapeithes ordered a counter-charge, which routed all the Romani soldiers on the flanks in an instant. All who remained were the few soldiers in the middle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romaniattacking.jpg
We soon routed them, and it was a mass rout.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/massrout-1.jpg
Our men chased them down ruthlessly.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasing-2.jpg
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/lastremnants-1.jpg
Finally, only two men remained.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/last2men-1.jpg
It was a great victory to start off a war.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stbattleresults.jpg
But with that victory, came grave consequences.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/diplomaticfailures.jpg
The Sauromatae, who we had been allies with for 60 years, has broken the alliance, having to choose between the Romani and us.
Frantic because the Sauromatae had very powerful forces on the border, we hammered out a peace agreement with the Romani.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stcease-fire.jpg
After that, we could make another alliance with Sauromatae, and their forces left the border.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/redoofalliance.jpg
But it didn't last.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndbattlestarting.jpg
Spargapeithes per Rekidava was getting old, and his hair began to turn white because of age. He would have to be replaced, but it would have to wait until after the battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanimoving.jpg
The battle was short, but fierce. The biggest fights were on the flanks, and later in the middle of the field.
On the left flank, our men beat back a vicious Romani charge by their elite cavalry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/romanicavalryattacking.jpg
On the right flank, our elites established dominance over the Romani elite infantry.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/elitesfighting.jpg
The Romani broke, but rallied in the middle of the field, where a ferocious infantry (and some cavalry) battle began.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/viciousinfantrybattle.jpg
Finally, with a cavalry charge against their rear, the Romani broke, and we chased them down-again.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/chasingdown-2.jpg
The day went to us, as usual.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndbattleresults.jpg
After the battle, they came to us, once again seeking peace. We accepted.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndcease-fire.jpg
After they left, the Council met, to discuss what was going on, and how to deal with it.
Antyros per Aedava began by citing the question that was on everyone’s minds- “Why would the Romani attack us when they are being assailed in their own homeland by Carthage?”
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/carthageattacking.jpg
No one could figure out the reason, but we did get some interesting news from Councilman Diales:
“Do you remember that huge Epeirote army? Well, a Romani army badly mauled it, and wiped most of it out, including all their elephants!”
Antyros spoke up.
“What does that mean for us?”
“It means that all territory that belongs to Epeiros is up for our taking!”
“You know we can’t do that right now, Dizo. We have our hands full with the Romani constantly attacking us…. wait….. I have an idea. Spargapeithes’s army, which is a bit rundown from lack of training, shall be sent south to take over Epeiros, after we replace Spargapeithes.”
Councilman Kazurus objected.
“Antyros, is that a good idea right now? I mean, you just said how it wasn’t such a good idea, with our hands full with the Romani. Also, why do we need to replace Spargapeithes?”
“Councilman Kazurus, we will send that force south once our border is secure with the Romani. But think of it this way- if we can secure our border with the Romani, and even establish trade lines with them, we can reap a huge profit, considering there are ports in every Epeirote city. Plus, we will be able to fully demilitarize southern Hellas, cutting costs! We need to replace Spargapeithes per Rekidava because he is getting old, and he sent Tarsa a request to be removed from command, probably personal reasons.”
“What about sending Borat’s army, which has been moved out of Demetrias to guard the border with Pontos, to take over Epeiros?”
“And risk Pontos ravaging that sector of our lands? Noting doing. He stays there.”
“With all due respect, Antyros, this is a council, we shall vote.” Said Councilman Tauros.
The vote was taken if we should send Borat to take over Epeiros.
“The ayes are 27, the nays are 58 (5 councilmember’s per settlement). The motion is rejected.”
“Sorry Kazurus, He stays there. I am confident our Vasil can defeat any Romani invasion by himself.”
“So when do you think we can send Spargapeithes’s replacement and his army to invade Epeiros?”
“As soon as the Romani are no longer a threat to us.”
“And that will be when….”
“Don’t worry. I have everything figured out- we will break our alliance with Epeiros, try to get one with the Romani, and get military assistance from the Romani against Epeiros, not that we need it much. Now, we will vote in favor of it.”
“The ayes are 71, the nays are 9, and 5 abstain. The motion passes.”

Chapter 43: the Illyrian War- Ambrakia
In the winter of 211, we broke our alliances with Epeiros and Carthage, a move questioned by many.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/alliancesgone.jpg
After some careful deliberating, we made an alliance with the Romani.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/newalliance-2.jpg
But it didn't last, and they withdrew their signatures a few months later.
Tarsa said, “It doesn’t matter- they will be next on our list of defeated foes.”
The Epeirote government was getting suspicious of us, so they withdrew their ambassadors from Buridava. Concerned that they would gear up for war and raise a huge army before Dula per Skaidava, the replacement for Spargapeithes per Rekidava, could get there.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/repalcementcomander.jpg
So Tarsa sent Borat, who was itching for a fight, to take over Epeiros.
We declared war on Epeiros, and so began the Illyrian War.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/war.jpg
Borat attacked a medium sized army near Ambrakia, the Epeirote capital, in the spring of 210.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/battlestarting-14.jpg
A small detachment of the garrison of Ambrakia surprised us from the rear. We sent our Triballi Infantry as well as our Thraikians to deal with them, as well as some Thessalian cavalry and Skythian Cavalry to help them.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/enemyfrombehind.jpg
It was very heavy fighting.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/flankcavalry.jpg
Our Thessalians took very heavy beatings when they clashed with the uber-elite Epeirote bodyguards.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/elitesclash.jpg
But we routed them, and our men returned to our lines.
Seeing their ambushing force defeated, the main Epeirote held back from engaging our army.
So we went to them, and they retreated before us.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/advancing-1.jpg
Borat watched from a distance as they marched forwards, and kept saying to himself how he had misgivings about this battle, for it was fought on their favorable terms, not ours.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/watching-2.jpg
But a hundred yards after, they turned and charged, surprising our men. Very heavy fighting began, and didn't stop for a long time. Their elite phalangites held down our spearmen while their cavalry tried to flank us. But it didn't work, because our cavalry engaged their cavalry before they could hit our flanks.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cavalryclash.jpg
We killed the first Epeirote general at that time.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/1stenemygeneraldead-1.jpg
The elite phalangites held on until our Thraikians charged them from the back.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/thraikiansfrombehind.jpg
A bit after we killed their second general.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/2ndenemygeneraldead-1.jpg
The enemy began to rout, as usual.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/runningdown.jpg)
The day was won.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/cheering.jpg
But it was a costly battle.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/results-22.jpg
We followed the remnants of the enemy army into Ambrakia, took over the city with little fight, and treated the inhabitants with our usual compassion.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/takingambrakia.jpg
Seeing that Epeiros was training a new army in Thermon, the last Epeirote stronghold, Borat took his army, left a medium-sized garrison in Ambrakia (Epidamnos wasn’t a threat as of yet), and laid siege to Thermon.
https://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa73/hooahguy14/situationsummer210.jpg
Once Thermon was taken, we could fully demilitarize southern Hellas, and we would move on to our last few targets......
