Hi everyone; this is my first post. You've got a great board here.

Anyway, I got M:TW yesterday, and I've been having a good time figuring it out, but I have a strategic question--when you first start off, and have many provinces with no governor, is it best to assign them governors right away to up productivity? Or is it better to wait for generals with higher acumen than your starting "crop" is likely to have? Exactly how much difference in income does acument make, per acumen "point?" Is it worth stripping governors with mediocre acmen of their titles later on, once you get some generals with really high acumen to take their places?

Thanks, and sorry for all the questions http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Assign now, don't wait. Strip and assign as soon as better ones come along.

It has been said here that each point of acumen is worth 10% raise in taxes from that province.

I assume the same would go with dread - one point of dread would mean 5% or 10% more loyalty from the province.

Personnaly, I do try to find and/or wait for generals with 4+ acumen for really good provinces. For example, while playing the Byzantines, I had the luck to find a 5 acumen general - I assigned it to Constantinople, and that province got me 1000+ florins a year. None too shabby http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
So, as I said, when a province allows 250+ florins a year without any improvement, I'll go out of my way to get it a really good general, even if it means making a few purposeless peasant units.

For provinces below that coin value, I usually get the best general I can find, but won't wait.

I haven't found any way to strip a general from his title(s) apart from disbanding the whole unit...

thats an easy one, just dump an emmisary on your general to take his title away. Wont make him happy tho..........

Yeah, but that is not a problem for the Byzantines, their loyalty is simply great.

Low income provinces I usually try to get Acumen 3 or above to, but I go for the best in Piety and Dread so loyalty is assured and I can press up the taxes.
Better provinces are more important to have good Acumen so that is what they get.

Actually, never wait, assign the best you've got ASAP and something better comes up... just dump the old bugger and assign the new one.

Also I want to agree with those pointing out that it is quite effective in newly aquired province to seek for high dread/high accumen combo (high piety will work only if the flok of the new province is the same religion as your faction).

Anyone else finding the varius add-on upgrades (constable of the palace etc.) a real knock-out? I've given Constantinople to a dispatched heir with 6 accumen, he got 2 more from the constable title, and to it he is magnificent with numbers! Constantinople is making now 2500+ fiorins and rising!
