GAH!

There is that group... something like Franciscan Monks or whatnot... don't know their name...

And, some movies use a cool song of such type... maybe 1492? Don't know. I know what it sounds like... Vanya just not know music group names or song titles. Vanya cares not for such irrelevant things.

GAH!

There are also those Russian revolution songs... like those youz hear in "Hunt for Red October" and whatnot. Those sound good too, especially if youz don't care to understand the words... Then again... seeing as how Vanya does not speak Italian, how could Vanya comprehend an Opera?

Or... just play the "Star Spangled Banner" when playing as the English during your crusade against the infidels?

GAH!

Many of brits would prefer '51st State' by New Model Army.

You can try bands like Estampie or Quintall
(german). There a loads of other bands in that scene as well, just can't recall them right now. But Estampie has one cd called Crusaders. Guess you should like that one...

The 'Islamic' or eastern music in MTW does have something of the right sort of feel to it. A few CDs of Islamic music are available and might seem to inhabit the same sort of sound world, very vaguely, but I don't have any details to hand.
For the Western music in MTW, enjoyable though it is, there is nothing really comparable in real medieval music. Your best bet is STW and MI/WE for something similar! If you are interested I can post details of my favourite CDs of actual medieval stuff, though I can't guarantee they'll all be available still.

If you like classical music and rock there are some bands that blend the two very well.

Haggard, Therion, and Nightwish are good. Therion's music is kinda close to the M:TW stuff but not quite. Also Mortiis does some good fantasy styled music (kinda sounds like the stuff in the movie Conan).

None of these bands sound excatly like the M:TW music but the style is somewhat simmilar.

GAH!

Sometimes movies dealing with the devil use similar sounding chorus music when the going gets medieval.

GAH!

Also... Lords of the Realms II had a good medieval tune... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

Try to soundtracks to the Lord of the Rings, Gladiator and Braveheart. Some very good tracks.

I believe movies soundtracks are your best bet, i would add Conan the Barbarian to the already mentioned, and perhaps Coppola's Dracula.

I you're looking for medievalish music, you could try Blackmore's Night, or some tracks by Rhapsody...

Bran Barr and Cruachan for when you conquer Scotland and Ireland of course http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Grave Digger's "Knights of the Cross" album for when you launch a crusade (although of course it could never be mistaken as medieval music http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif)

Apart from that, Wagner is an all time favorite, or you could also try Gregorian, Era (french pop-rock with medieval/cathar choirs)...Some tracks by Theatre of Tragedy would fit right in too (And When He Falleth for example)

You should look for the category "early music" or "alte musik" in your CD-store. If you like religious singing, you should look for "gregorian chant". For choirsong with more voices(women are allowed!) english madrigals are a good listening.

If you like dancemusic with harps, flutes and drums, I really recommend a visit at: http://www.unicorn-ensemble.at/
They specialize in recording early music with the instruments that was available at that time and they do it well!.

Haha! An early music fan! I thought I was the only one ever! Go Vildhavre!

Actually I have somewhat ecelctic tastes but early music has always somehow attracted me as has Green day. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

hehe, you are not alone! I think most people like it, just that few people actually go and look for it. Also it goes really well with the campain mode on MTW http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Try out Dead Can Dance, they take inspiration from many sources but often with a medieval feel. http://members.aol.com/midevlman/dcd.htm
