Something that could be added to the battle interface is a charge button, when you press it all selected units charge the nearest enemy. I think this could be really useful as i get tired having to select each of my units and then attack individual enemys, also good for when you have units spread all over the map chasing fleeing enemys and they decide to just stop. Dont know how hard this would be to implement.

Also a general advance in a straight line would be nice.

A way to get the same effect is to use the "select all" command and then double click on a point behind the units you want to attack. This will move your guys there quickly and they will stay in formation. After you do this then you can go and direct each unit individually to get it exactly where you want it. Hope this helps.

Ctrl-A (select all units)

Hold down Alt (hold formation)

Click where you want to go.

Result: General advance

If you want charge with that (no fries ? *G*) just double-click ...

(It is not a "real charge, just a run. But I think they get the charge bonus, too)

Villain, let me guess... You attacked. DAMN there are a lot of losses.

The difference between making the run-charge as to the real charge is the speed and the way you can use them.

Charge speeds are often a bit higher, for Kataphraktoi it goes from running at 12 to charging at 16.

The other aspect is great for when the enemy flees. If you have some knights (heavy unit is best for this) don't let them chase down the enemy, they will only capture a few enemies. By running them on an interceptcourse (which charge won't, it always takes the shortest route) you run over the whole unit instead of the last 10-15, and you will often see the carry-through effect, which you won't see if they come from behind and try to chase the enemies down.

I always make the run-charges when the enemy flees.

That's what I do now,but you still have to be careful you don't click to much to the right or left.
You don't want those flanks exposed so close to the enemy.

True, what I do, before I charge, is to select all then make a small forward movement, get the direction right, then I cahreg them forward to a point behind the enemy. A lot of work. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
