View Full Version : Creative Assembly Woohoo! I can\'t wait for Faction Wars in multiplayer!!
Once the patch comes out and we can all be whatever faction we want, we can have faction wars... like one side is all Brits and the other is all French. Or whatever factions! It will be so cool to field 4 players' worth of one faction's units against an enemy with 4 player's worth of another faction. I can't wait! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

They said they were working on it, but haven't heard a definitive answer yet. And if they do, expect to see the ElmoHead armies in quadruplicate!! woohoo> )

If u dig deep in the 100+ post Patch work thread on one of Gil's lists it say that it an issue that has been included, or definitey being worked on. Early on in thread there is a "done" and "to do" and "hopefully" list. Same factions was in one of the first 2 sections. And yes would be good fun http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

I don't know, really. I don't wish that a faction dominates over another and we will all play one faction and leave the others in the sand, would be really a bad thing (happened on MI...)
And once ladders are introduced ...it WILL happen ...we guys must make sure faction domination and stereotyped play doesn't occur.
Maybe a rule that only allied players can have the same faction? Or only a maximum of 4 players or less?

its the vets responsibility to beat the other with a non-super faction. ending up with teh strongest faction in all your battles is sad behaviour.
our Khan claims the Turkisch Egyptians and Byzantines. u know why. and will keep playing them even if they are the weakest.

I don't believe there is a strongest faction, and I don't think there ever will be, especially since the majority of units are shared among all the catholic factions, and the Muslims share most of their units.
I think it will just be more of a fun thing to do.
Logically, everything should still be in the exact same balance as it does right now, because the ratio should be the same whether it's 1vs1, 2v2,3v3,4v4 with any two factions:
As long as each faction in the game is relatively balanced against all the other factions in 1v1, there shouldn't be a problem no matter how many players play it at a time as long as the players on the other team all play another faction as well. Balance, people.
Also, I hypothesize that relatively weak factions, such as the Russians, might finally find some uses when more than one player plays them on a team.
Also, another possible solution is to make this style of play another gametype - maybe call it Faction Wars and abbreviate it FW. This would help differentiate servers where this type of game is being played (as opposed to LMS), and then clans could make a rule that any match play must be done in LMS if it turns out they don't like Faction Wars.

I will always be an ElmoHead for most of my games. To me they are the biggest challenge since they do not have any of the "super units", available to them. I have to use tactics, speed, and smart upgrading to stand a chance.
spmetla`s suggestion about certain players controlling either artillery, cav etc. is a really good idea. however it would only be really usefull if the players were not limited to little spheres to deploy in at the start. if all allies can set there troops up anywhere on their side of the battlefield then that idea would work much better

I would also like to see the teamwork, with someone in charge of a different type of unit.
With that, it would be much easier to win AND lose. Routing will suck for the allies. But, it will also be easier to take out the target, with a combined army, flanking will be halfway impossible for the enemy
Thumbs up on this idea.

Apart from the bad side (hopefully it will be avoided http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif) I pointed out, the factions indeed look very balanced.

yup its sad we cant deploy where we like on each side. it just takes away some nice things
hmm, Magyar saying some factions are uber and the Forum moderator is saying they are closed to balanced. Goes to show that it's like beauty...all in the eye of the beholder.
If I had to pick a "best" and worst" faction, my own opinion is the Egyptians are very powerful and the Germans are a tad weak.
Camels when used right along with other Egyptian units are difficult to stop. And as for the Germans, well, they're so ordinary. They don't really have any stand-out powerful units like the other factions.

I love the HRE. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Anyway, I think it would be cool if for Faction Wars we could have a different way of setting up the battlefield without the spheres and instead divide the battlefield into thirds - one third for each side and a third NoMan'sLand in the center during setup (to prevent people from setting up right against their enemies and rushing them too quickly).
CA any word on if this would be possible?
Hey, I can dream can't I? =)

Sooooo why would you play the French when you can play the English or the Italians and get like 5x as many special units?
Currently, they are fine to play as if the other catholic factions with order foot are taken, but I doubt they will be played much once factions are not limited.
Shrug.

u can limit them by agreeing on it.
Still waiting for CA to let us know if they could do something like having different starting positions on the maps for Factions Wars... divide the field into thirds.
