I have seen a few ideas around to include new units. Some people/country clearly felt short-changed

I have decided to contribute to this important debate.
As French I DEMAND the addition of a few typically french units that have been outrageously ignored:
- Camembert throwers : short range, weapon cause fear
- French pouting actress : performs as spy, geisha AND princess (but with several husbands at the same time, who will developp the vice 'cocu' +3 dread)
- Baker infantry : (medium inf) use baguette as pikes, useless when it rains (the bread gets soggy)
- Arrogant emissary : same as emissary + 2 but his natural arrogance (Alain Juppé type) means he gets a 50% chances of getting executed by other kings.

now guys surely you can think of a few english/pole/german units...

New Byzantine (Greek) units:

- Mouzaka princess: You can't get to move that bitch out of your province, because she has eaten so much, she has become like 150 kg heavy. If she marries to another factions prince, she has 50% chance of eliminating him (especially if he like the "woman on top" concept).

- Syrtaki warriors: They dance on the field, thus throwing the enemy to dissaray (on their stats they get +2 morale, +1 valour, -2 defence - they are too worried dancing to pay attention to their defence).

- Imperial taxi driver assasin: It's a pure killer this one. He kills off every enemy general in a province by his mere presence (50% chance). Downside is that he's got 50% chance for killing your own generals (he can't tell friends from foes).

- Souvlaki master: He fights his way through enemy hords, holding a suvlaki in each hand. Something like that super-swordsman in STW-MI, but with enhanced stats and a mighty mustache.

Hmmm... can't think of any others right now

Some more minor faction units:

- austrian jodeling infantry (causes fear in all non-deaf units on the field)

- bavarian beer brewer cart (siege engine type, raises morale significantly)

- swiss banker (strategic unit, rebels get so confused they pay YOU to join you)

- spanish pick-a-door-ehh (cav that always gets confused in sieges and attack the wrong gatehouse)

- polish cart hijacker (sorry, could not resist *G*)

- swedish furniture factory (extends the siege time for all your keeps due to higher storage capacity; discover the possibilities)

- english hooligan (peasants that can "dismount" to fanatics)

- german paper shuffler (is automatically build in all your HRE provinces, and is charging you loads of money for nothing; MUST be assasinated)

- french madame de jour (lowers fighting capability of your troops, but raises happiness tremendously)

YES, that's more like it!
good effort guys...

we're missing some turks/hungarians but I have one

- the Italian spy : will wistle at and follow up other faction princesses from province to province, thereby preventing them from contracting royal wedding. No other ability.

A good thread would be to think of alternative vice and virtues, I'll launch this one too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Varius special units

- Hanum-burek (Turk): A heavy-weight princess, ready to stomp over the ill-fated prince who is trying to flirt with her.

- Greek Kamaki (Byzantine): An emissary with Hairy chest, unbuttoned shirt and a huge golden chain around his neck. He is capable of attracting all princesses from northern factions (especially vulnerable the ones from Danemark and HRE) and gather them around him, thus negating their effectiveness as diplomatic tools.

- Men-At-Kebab (Turk): They carry huge amounts of kebab in the battlefield, and just before the battle stars, they start feeding the enemy soldiers, producing diarhea (sp?) and similar effects, thus lowering the overal morale and fighting capability.

- English frigid maiden (princess - English): Her special ability is to marry off a heir of another faction and by constantly bringing up her headaces and such, makes him ripe to be granted the "perverted" V&V.

good one rosacrux, but in my experience it is less the " English frigid maiden "

than the
"English easy maiden" : will get married in the first province that she crosses. Her ability to wear pink mini skirts even when it's -15 degrees outside give her a bonus in Nordic regions.

Ahhh, here's a few essentials....

Scottish Ned: totally uncontrollable, wears a string vest and always has the total drunk V&V.

Scottish Toss the Caberman: Short range tree-throwing missile troops. Very dangerous to all within 2 feet.

Crack Suicide Squad: 'nough said.

German Lederhosen Wearers/English Morris Dancers: Peasantry that bestow incredible fear on anybody who lays eyes upon them...

Greasy Italian... hmmmm http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

- Australian dwarf tossers : short range, dwarfs cause fear to horses

Sparky
09-19-2002, 14:38
Scottish politician (governor): Blames the English, forgets to do anything else worthwhile. +15 happiness, -2 acumen. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Sparky

Welsh male choir: Causes fear to everyone, especially the animals.

Only available for building in Flanders and Frysia:
+ Dutch Parking Attendant: has a 50% chance every turn of inciting a major rebellion

+ Dutch Lefty Politician: Can stop Crusades against Muslim factions using his vast repertoire of Politically Correct dogma's (cannot be used against Jihads as they are simply 'cultural expressions' and should not be discouraged)

Causes fear and confusion, protects troops from arrows, simply bypasses all gates.

...you should though beware the Greeks bearing gifts (V&V maybe? "aware of Greek gifts") http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

- Sicilian special unit: Mafiozo hitman: A beefed up assasin, that eats tons of spaghetti and thus requires upkeep.

- German special unit: Kolner bierbauch: a useless emissary, since nobody can understand what he says (biste herziger? tringste merziger!)

Kolner bierbauch ... so is just SOO true http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

And the danish troops...

Can only be trained in Denmark:
-The Turkish Popdreng: Lowers loyalty in province and has a chance of stealing unsuccesful princesses.

Freely produced:
-The Smørrebrød thrower: Long range moralebooster, give units close by a big boost to fatiguerecovery. If routed the army will be uncontrolable.

-The Heavy Farmers: Slow infantry that can't pass up the chance to go into shacks and houses on the field. Impetuous against Turks. Granted moralebonus by presence of cows.

-Randers Jutes: The next level of the Heavy Farmers, faster and with a chance to begin attacking you own units.

Only hireable from Inns:
-Faroe Negotiator: Expert emmisary, siphon money from faction and demands independance with a yearly compensation of 10,000 florins.

Only available in Norway:
Norwegian Nationalist: Enhanced Spy, but is visible and can't be caught. Causes great drop in Loyalty, revolts happen even if loyalty is 200%, the people want him out.

I've managed to add new units using the provided units as a template.
Royal Knights in a 80 strong unit
Elite Longbowmen - extra ammo

These are extra new units and not just edited units.

I'm in the process of putting it in a guide.
There is alot to edit and create for both the 2D and 3D map.
