Im playing as the Romans and the year is 228 BC. The game is on H/H and Ive destroyed KH and Epeiros. Carthage,Macedon,Aedui and Arverni are at war with me. I saved the game last night. It was all fine and dandy.

I then loaded it the next afternoon and it CTD. It seems to load the game fine but it crashes in about 20-60 seconds depending on what I do. If I sit there idle and not move the mouse(The camera starts over Macedon by the way) the game crashes in about a minute. If I move the mouse any way it usually crashes even faster. This is with or without the script activated. In the short time I can play, I can move armies and click on most of the cities in that area. However I noticed it crashes instantly when I click on Ambrakia. It still crashes with the other cities, but I can view everything in them for a short period of time.

iNot using a NOCD crack.
Reinstalled the game completely
Used the zip rather than installer
got the map.rvm
no movies enabled.
dont have Vista
ran the validation. Everything checked out except the fixes from bovis sig
Installed them
Added swap space. made it static.
Not using Gold. Dont have BI installed
Dont have that ATI card.
Not using Nero Burning ROM.

Anyway, I hope someone could help. I am starting a new game but it would be nice to finish this one. It seems like a lot of work though.

I will post the log file as soon as my cable company stops updating my modem. It takes a long time to upload and my modem keeps rebooting.

You don't happen to have a NVidia 6600GT by any chance? My piece of crap XFX 6600GT did exactly that, on any DirectX9.0c game.

Anyway, random crashes when you're not doing anything in particular sounds like an overheating graphics card, a screwed up driver for it or your sound card, or faulty RAM.

You should run memtest overnight to check that your RAM is fine. Free, downloadable program.

Install the latest drivers for your sound card. Also experiment with graphics drivers, particularly the latest but also a couple of older ones. Remember to clean out the driver completely before downgrading, this is really important with NVidia's drivers. There's a free tool you can find on the net for it, can't remember its name but I think it was DriverCleaner or something like that. Try the Omega drivers as well, some report them to be better than the official ones.

Sorry about not adding hardware info. I have a Radeon X1300 using AGP. I also have 2GB DDR400 Dual Channel RAM. I also use A Creative Audigy 2 sound card. I ran memtest for a good 5 hours and it didnt show any errors. It made it through roughly 18 tests and all were 0 errors. Im not really sure about memtest though. How long are you supposed to run it for. It just seems to restart and continue forever. I will try uninstalling and updating my graphics and sound card drivers tomorrow afternoon after work.

And if anyones interested heres the Logfile from the process manager http://www.axifile.com/?4865799

Oh, you said "Dont have that ATI card.". The Radeon is an ATI card :beam:.

I think your RAM has passed the test. I just started it when going to bed and woke up to the results, and it does indeed start over and over, 18 passes is good and sufficient. The rest of the suggestions still stand however. Also, you could try to borrow another graphics card from a friend, if possible. That's an easy way of eliminating the graphics card from the equation, rather than endlessly experimenting with drivers.

Oh, and does it work if you start a new campaign?

Ok, so maybe I did.:sweatdrop: I actually was talking about the X700. Yea, thats my excuse. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers to no avail. Unfortunately I dont have another card to try however my cousin has a computer similar in speed to mine except he has Nvidia and Intel hardware. Im going to give him my save for him to try and see if it works or not.

I can play a new campaign. I only played about 20 turns though as Epeiros, still thinking about Ambrakia. haha. It worked for that long, havent got very far though. I have another save playing Macedon I will pick back up and keep playing. I left it around 235 BC with much of the same cities taken. (besides Italy)

Okay, as you can play with a new campaign, just forget about all the hardware stuff. I'll take a look at it sometime.
