I'm looking for a PC game that breaks off from the repetitive trends of most other games, and it should have a demo so that I can try out the gameplay before buying it. Anything published in the last 5 years, possibly even older, would be interesting.
How about venturing into the woods, jungles, deserts, and swamps, without modern faciliations, and survive fighting dangerous animals, withstanding unknown poisonous liquids, harsh nature, finding nutritions, and -- of course -- being chased by evil black-suited men wearing sunglasses wielding machine guns?
If you want a demo, go on a simple camping trip closeby. If you like it, then do the above but gradually increase the difficulty level! :laugh4:

I tried that. But after an hour or so, I decided I didn't like Crysis. :tongueg:

Portal. Or Psychonauts.
STALKER if you haven't already. It's buggy but awesome. And of course Thief.

Second for Stalker and of course Portal. Dominions 3 might also fit the bill, there's a playable demo too. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/Illwinter/Dom3/6.htm

Team Fortress 2 but it doesn't have a demo and it's only multiplayer. Still, it's great fun though. ~D

Oh, and if you're not adverse to an older game: do give Anachronox a try. You can get it for a low price nowadays, and it's a refreshing take on RPGs, adventure games and quite a few other things, and it's a very funny game to boot.

I'm just finishing the campaign game of Age of Wonders Shadow Magic, a game I bought a few years ago. It's a turn based strategy game with cute 2D graphics.
I wouldn't describe it as challenging exactly, since as with most games the AI isn't too bright, but it's still kinda fun exploring each scenario, discovering goodies, founding new cities of your own, and gradually building up your empire to the point where you can win the scenario. All the AOW series are fun games IMO, in fact I'm not sure if I didn't like the previous game in the series, The Wizard's Throne, better, since the scenarios are a bit less complex (only two levels per map instead of three).
If you're into a little more challenge, you can try to break your own record for the number of turns taken to win a scenario. Or play MP.
