When you control the Vatican do the other Christian Factions hate your Guts or become friendly?

They don't like you at all, well perhaps they do, but you get Excommunicated by the Pope if you are Catholic. And you will see Papal uprising all the time.

You get excommunicated when you invade, and un-excommunicated when you eliminate the Papacy faction.

. . . . finding its worth it to eliminate the Pope if excommunicated, but then not expect or try to hold Rome when the rebels come back - am holding Papal states OK now - but have been through like 3 rebellions as Germans - really nasty almost all fuedal knight armies - and after several attacks he's not attacking me now - beat him bad enough maybe his v&v working for me now - better alive and weak. Somehow have avoided excommunication this time, but haven't made peace yet either - even with a 3 star emissary.

My influence is down, and no one wants to get married into my family - but no one is attacking me either - guess they just don't like me.

As someone else said in a previous post, it's sometimes quite funny when playing a catholic faction to finish off the pope, pillage all the improvements in one province and when the new rebellion turns up, just funnel them right into the province you've just looted.

Did this in one game without my armies actually having to fight the new pope, and then he wanted to ally with me (heh heh!).

Wouldn't it be fun to actually control the papacy though? Now that's something for the truly power crazy gamer :-)

IM:

the "re-animator" behavior of the pope is almost a money engine for me - keep beating them so bad and getting rich off the ransom.

Feudal Sergeants, Feudal MAA, crossbows, and some mounted cross-bows do pretty well.

And of course with a catapult its "bowling for feudal foot knights" http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Bowling for FFK's,

i find the Papacy doesn't want to pay as many florin for a Flat Foot Knight
...
apparently they pay by volume/displacement not merely by weight...

or mass . . .

Just struck me as hilarious and a little Pythonesque when first used catapult and that first rock bounced down the hill.

Flat foot knights: kind of like card soldiers in Alice-in-Wonderland Total War.
