there are supposed to be several maps for each province, depending on where you attack/defend from.

I had two simultaneous battles that were fought on the same map. but not the same province. I attacked Crimea and I defended Scicily. I had a beach, with a small cliff half way along, sloping up quite sharply away from the beach, fairly green with a few fields and trees. I thought I'd made a mistake at first (I defended first, attacked the next go in those two different provinces) but then I was attacked in Scicily again. Same map. Has anyone else noticed others?

Maps are randomly drawn from the same pool based on the terrain type of the border you attack across.

Attack across any "hillY' border on the map and you'll randomly get one of 30 "hilly" maps.

All the maps in the game (there are many hundreds) can be seen listed when you do a custom battle or a multiplayer game.

Where's the lie, exactly?

We want an apology for your jumping to conclusions in your thread title :)

Clap. Clap. Clap.

Devs, this border dependent map selection is one of the best features of MTW over STW.

Konnichiwa,

STW maps were a bit hilly (as should be for Japan) but were a bit of one sided afair (defender on hill, attacker in valley).

MI maps (the default ones) were not that great (lots of texture misblends, sad deploying zones, some were even buggy due to water).

The MTW maps are much better: good texturing (I've discovered only 1 misblend sofar), decent deploy zones and above all more varied. Flat, hilly, but also hilly ones where the attacker starts on the high ground. Good to see that. The backdrops really add to the maps: even iron bored looks fancy :-).

If we only could convert some of those great (custom and default) STW maps to MTW (already working on that).

I recall an early interview saying that the battlemap would change depending on the direction from which the territory was invaded. I thought this meant a unique map for each approach into a territory. However, it was ultimatly implemented as a random choice from a set of maps representing terrain typical for that territory. It's not the same thing because now you can have the same map for different territories.

I noticed the same map on two different province battles. One was desert-like and the other was lush. No rpoblemo. I don't see the "lie". That was pretty darn rude.

Well guys, where is the problem? We have more maps than most of us will ever play on. And I really do like the maps. Especially some with flat hills look excellent for 2 vs. 2 or bigger battles. I'm more than satisfied,... if I only could go play online...

Well the lie was the fact that the advertising said there were different maps for every province, not only that, but it depended where the attack came from. I agree with the latter part of that but it's the first part that is not true. I'm not complaining about the number or quality of maps, just that they did not market it truthfully.

Konnichiwa,

I'm just Dutch of course. I know that things were announced and never implemented at all, but I can't recall that it was ever said (except maybe in a preview, we both know that CA doesn't write those) that each province would have unique battlemaps. What was said, was that the map depends on where the attack came from.

Make more maps, the chance the you'll face the same map twice will be decreased.

:-)
now while that would be absolutely fun,

it would also require...lets see,
100 provinces, with say 3 borders for each?
and what, 4 or 5 maps per border?

1500 maps!!!!

I have to agree with GilJay here. I think they deserve an apology. The title of this thread is inflammatory. Moderators should act on things like this.

I greatly appreciate that the devs spend time and effort to come here and discuss and listen. Threads like this - esp. with titles like this - are not in the realm of responsible discussion and should be moderated. Otherwise, we are insulting our guests - and I, for one, wouldn't blame them for leaving.

Question them- sure- but keep it civil AND be sure of your facts.

In this case, Zone doesn't interpret things the same way as they were advertised. So he could have said - PLEASE CLARIFY - instead of - THEY LIED. Makes all the difference in the world.

OK- rant off. Thanks for listening. . .

Sorry if I've offended people with the title of this thread but it wasn't a case of clarification, it was advertised in the way described above and that's misleading. I wont go on about it now though, enough's enough.

I'll admit that I haven't been around these forums for a very long while (at least 6 months) and it seems that since then the number of people posting is considerably larger and possibly that's resulted in a greater need for security etc. on these forums. I've also been frequenting other forums which (no disrespect) are rather more 'lenient' and this may have changed my attitude to my posts. I'll calm it down fro now on.
