Greetings all,
Is it possible to mod the units that the senate gives as rewards for completing missions?
Thanks

you can mod any unit wich means that if that unit is given its been modded, though I wouldnt know how to dictate wich unit is given, next to that as the Romans are already very over-balanced I cant help feel it would utterly wreck the game ... though thats up for each player to decide for themselves .. ;)

Sorry my 1st post wasn't very clear.
What I mean is sometimes you get offered a rare unit, other times one of the best you can recruit or Triarii. Is it possible to alter what units get offered?
If I made a mod that took Triarii out would that break the game (if the senate offered 1 as a reward) or would it just not pick that unit as a gift?
Cheers

I've remade and renamed all units so I have no "vanilla" named units in game and this works just great ... at least havent noticed any problem so far ...
I dont think there is any way you can tell wich unit is given, I think the game picks a reward unit based on some other conditions(like its prefers giving ships) or possibly its completelly random ..

Come to think of it is there anyway to preset in a campaign what the odds are on the senate awarding certain units?
Or in other words can I choose what units can be offered and exclude others from ever being offered as rewards?
Nope, I don't think you can. Perhaps indirectly one could do it by altering unit stats etc in a way that the AI would chose a specific unit over the others, but since the choice 'algorithm' is not known, you woldn't know what to change. Plus making alterations would damage unit balance.
If you are that interested in having certain units gifted to the player, you could also do it with much more precision and no randomness involved - with scripts (I can see Dol executing me for high treason). The latest release of RTR, The Iberian Conflict, has a form of scripted "missions" that could help you. That is *if* you are not against using scripts.

As has been said, I do not think there is a way to alter much about such things with the senate, as with events, as they are hardcoded or have hardcoded elements. I looked into changing the units given by the senate and could find no way to alter it - though it would be interesting to see what happens when those units are modded out.
I would advise leaving a decision on scripts until everything else is done, not least for testing and debugging purposes ;)
Personally I do not like scripts, for a number of reasons.

I plan on staying well away from scripts for the forseable future, I'm having enough trouble gettign everything else to work right!!!!!
Thanks for the answers guys :beam:

I have seen the results of this. I removed all merc units from my vanilla mod, and when the senate gave me a mission that promised an exotic (merc) unit for a reward it was unable to give me the unit because they had been removed from the game. I don't remember its exact words but the mission success message said something to the extent of, "you can not be given your reward because the unit is not available." This did not result in CTD or anything. I just felt a little bit cheated, but it caused no real problems.
descr_senate.txt controls the reward/penalty system.
You cannot control what rewards exactly you will get but at least the reward level will give you a measure of the likeness in getting the better stuff...
