I've tried several times to assasinate an allied daimyo in order to get his lands. This usually happens, when I'm close to winning anyway, and I just want to avoid the hassle of killing hordes of Shimazu or Hojo.

Unfortunately, when my ninja or geisha manage to kill the last of the line the former ally either goes ronin or joins some other ally. How do I make sure, that the lands will go to me ?

On a similar note I hate it when I manage to grab an opponents hq early in the game, and I kill his daimyo in the process. His lands now go to another side, who suddenly becomes strong (and who I have to kill). That must be a great advantage to Imagawa - keep neighbors (eh spelling :confused http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif from getting allies!

To my experience the most effective way to accomplish this is to choose a Daimyo who's neutral, make an alliance with him, nad then the next turn send a geisha or a ninja over for a housecall http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif. I dont know if I've just been lucky, but this way I've always managed to get a fair share of opponents lands and armies

On the info parchment concerning alliances/at war with- you know what I mean. Anyway, the first allied clan on the list by that daimyo will receive his lands. So double check before you attempt the assasination, and be ready for the primary ally to gain control.

Is that the only thing the game
checks for? I was playing on hard
and the Takeda daimyo was killed in
battle. He was not allied with anyone
else except for me. I was playing
Shimazu. His lands all went ronin.

This has happened before as well in
other difficulty levels where I assassinate
an allied daimyo and his lands go ronin.

Any ideas?

Jaxem...

Your game doesn't like you http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif Actually length of alliance is an important factor too. The longer the alliance the higher probability for you to benefit by their demise http://cgi.tripod.com/smilecwm/cgi-bin/s/scorchio/sasmokin.gif

Thanks BlackShip,
I thought maybe it was because
the game knew I assassinated the
daimyo and didn't want to give me his
lands etc. The game not liking me
explains a lot more along with all
those extra bad harvests at hard =)

It's also important that you be the *first* on the list of allies. The first name gets the lands, if any.

True Jaxem - sometimes you don't get the lands even if you are the only ally - guess you have to be allied for a while - or is there another explanation http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif

I have noticed different levels of peace with clans, and maybe this has an effect on whether you get their lands. If you are at war, then sign a treaty sometimes this is called a ceasefire, if you then approach and sign a further treaty this is an alliance. So although your mon may be first in the list, it may not be the first alliance mon (if you see what I mean).

As a further thought in all the games I have played who get what land seems to rest on game balance. It seems that if you are romping ahead you don't inherit other lands, but if you are up against the wall you do. I even remember reading this suggestion aeons ago in some post on some forum .

I absolutely agree Yabu. The most fucked get the lands. Ive noticed that Shimazu and Mori seem to get the lands often in the early years, so maybe it's connected to income.

I'm so confused.

The whole alliances system is totally screwed. It's possible to have alliances with two other clans even though they are bitter enemies. The whole thing needs a radical overhaul for the expansion pack/sequel or even patch 1.13.

i would really appreciate being able to make alliances who could actually help me in battle - you invade a province, your ally also invades the province (since human players are first to go, despite this "simultaneous move" garbage EA assures us with) you could do it that way. ive seen it happen with castle sallies, but only when two computer-run allies do it.
the province would go to whoever invaded it first (probably the human player).

I've actually had an ally help me attack someone. I was Mori, expanding east at the north crossing, and the clan(?) on the northern end of the isle sent an army to help(?) me attack the clan(?) on the south end. I also think inheritence is related to touching borders. Only once have I recieved provinces on the other side of the map, and I got all of them (Takeda (my ally)had defeated The Horde). They all either had ports, or touched a province with ports. Maybe it depends on being able to travel there right away.
