View Full Version : Roman Provincal Governors

I like the system of the Roman provincal governors. Unfortuantly the aquiring of the ancillery or the passing of it is often not possible due to the limit of having them. Most of FMs have allready the maximum (eight?) when they are in age that would allow for a provincial governement and so the marker can not be passed when someone did not have the maximum and happened to govern one of the needed provincal towns but the next governor is allready "full" with ancillieries. That means he is still carring "Sardinia & Corsica" around when campaigning in Makedonia as Consul.

Is it possible to make these Pro-Praetor/-Consul position just a trait? That is, for example, someone with the trait (Ex-)Praetor beeing governor in Karalis would get the trait "(Pro-)Praetor Sardinia & Corsica" and the benefits until he ends his turn in another town.

i have to agree with you, another thing though some of the ancillaries for certain provinces are near impossible to acquire. i get the governor of macedonia, sicily, sardina very quickly but the governer of achea takes too long to acquire given that i have removed the movement point penalty that the EB team included and yet it takes too long to acquire and sometimes they don't get them at all

I fully agree with Konny. Can the EB team make the governor/pro-consul/praetor ability a trait and not an ancillary? It is nice, but frustrating when my FM has too many ancillaries to be given his imperium

Agreed. The same thing would apply to the satrapial system of the east btw.

This is not so much of an issue at the beginning but later, when one usually puts their youngsters into an academy (as is recommended afaik), their retinue is usually up to 8 people within a few turns, most of the times even before they are about to enter military service.

I disagree, the same can be said for any desired retinue. The provinicial 'badge' in retinue is worth any shuffling required to pass it to a governor.

@LuciusCorneliusSulla

Maybe you haven't read it as well as you should. I have yet to get a province governor, mainly because I haven't been playing much EB lately :sweatdrop:

When your Empire grows, your kids get their ancillaries filled up in academies, long before you send them to govern a province. That means, NO SHUFFLE. I don't know if getting rid of them is possible, yet I would agree that it would be better as a trait (which are as far as I know, unlimited).

(which are as far as I know, unlimited).

That's the point.
A kid placed in a city with an academy should - if you roleplay it at least a bit - not leave it until he turns 21, or 20 at least, which results in him sitting 20/24 turns in that city. Which in turn results him having minimal to no chances to end his studies with less than 8 followers. Therefore: no free retinue slots available to anyone.

The major disadvantage with putting the province titles into the trait line - correct me if I'm wrong - would be that he would have this title for life then.

Anti-trait. I've heard of this ones. Governor=a bonus, anti-trait=cancels the bonus out. Once the anti-trait takes effect you make them both invisible in the menu (is this possible or am I just having odd thoughts?).

Problem solved! (Please remember, I have no knowledge of modding the RTW engine)

It would be the same as now, with not the ancillery beeing the requirement but another trait (for example ex-praetor or ex-aedile). It is "reseted" as soon as he ends his turn outside the provincal town, very much like the "attuned governor" works. That is done by an anti-trait, yes.

@ Sulla

It's simply not possible to shuffle that way. And those "provincal governors" are not just "any retinue" but unique. That means, when one character has it he is running around all his life until he can either pass it (usually not) or no one else can get this trait until he dies .

We didn't make them as ancillaries because we wanted to, but due to engine restrictions. There's simply no way to make sure that only one character will get a trait in RTW, but we can guarantee uniqueness with ancillaries.

Isn't it possible to check if a character is governor and in a specific town? In this case only one would be governor of that province - with the limitation that he will only be in the "capital town" of that province.

No. There's no condition that checks to see if a particular character is the governor.

I see. I thought the "GovernorInResidence" would do.

Example:

Trait Proconsul_Sicilia
Characters family
ExcludeCultures barbarian, eastern, egyptian, carthaginian, greek, nomad
NoGoingBackLevel 1
AntiTraits Not_Proconsul_Sicilia

Level Proconsul_Sicilia
Description Proconsul_Sicilia_desc
EffectsDescription Proconsul_Sicilia_effects_desc
Threshold 1

Effect Influence 2
Effect Management 1
Effect Law 1

------------------------------------------

WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

Condition GovernorInResidence
and FactionType seleucid
and SettlementName Syrakousai
and Trait Proconsul_Sicilia < 1
and Trait notConsul > 0

Affects Proconsul_Sicilia 1 Chance 100
--------------------------------------------

So, that wouldn't do? Ok, in this case I can't see a way either.

GovernorInResidence checks whether there is a governor at all in the province. It's a yes/no query. You have two generals in a settlement and the trigger will fire for both.

Do you think it will be possible for EB2?
