When I saw hillmen I thought of dudes who literally had enclaves dug into the hills and when called to war came pouring out .

When I saw elephant cataphracts in my opponent's army, I thought "Oh shi-"

Asabara cavalry....for some reason I always read it as 'Ass Bra'

I always read "Epileptikoi Hoplitai"

"I...I think I'm gonna faint."

Mada Asabara... I thought they are supposed to be mad.

Funny, it's actually (almost) an anagram of:

"A mad bare-ass"

Some germanic unit names look sick. I tried to pronounce them( as a german speaking i thought it would be kind of easier to do that) and was happy that didnt knot my tongue.

Really? Because I speak Dutch (I'm Belgian) and to me the Germanic unit names are perfectly pronouncable, just like reading Dutch.

The Celtic and nomadic unit names however... :help:

Yep they sure do

As for the Swebi unit's names I think:
"Ok let me see Skadugagdudg... ahh just f*** it. The naked dudes painted in black"

Well when I saw Dorkim Lubim-Ponnim Mookdamim I thought of a geek smeared with KY standing on a bridge wearing an Aussie designed T-shirt with a horned lightbulb on it. But didn't everyone?

I'm afraid I only thought as far as the dork part, for the rest my mind just shut down and adopted a detached point of view... o.O

that must be damaging for the career of the men of that unit.....

"you're a vet?"
"yes I am. i fought against the romans at Canne"
"cool! which unit were you part of?"
"the Dorkim Lubim-Ponnim Mookdamim"
"oh....... thats nice......"

lol!

I found a way how to pronounce Gldmtg. :beam:
When I read the name Voinu aj always think it is derived from the Slovak word vojna (pronounced like voina) which means war.
Some Gemanic or Goildic units have tongue-braking names too.
The epileptikoi - yes, 100% agree.

EDIT: Basilikon agema - elite basil-eaters
Sparabara - haravara (means mess)

Not units, but the name of the Iberian town Arsé made me think the obvious...

Gldmtg--and I eat that how?
Seriously, directly transliterating Phoenician/Punic (and anything that uses the same alphabet) is messy.

Germanic names are fine with me. The nomads are more difficult.

The Roxolanni made me think of Roxanna.

I still dunno which is correct phalnax or phalanx. I get the feeling its the latter. I had a similiar problem with cavalry years earlier and I think I still pronounce it incorrectly. Best unit name: Sacred Band.

Oh and immortals but they're not in EB.
