View Full Version : just got m2tw and kingdoms
I have finally decided to buy both of these, and installed them. But as I played the tutorial campaign, I immediately noticed that the battle game doesn't feel as immersive as rome? I was using the same PC, so it could be that i was seeing worse graphics with m2tw than rome. The troops and background are just not as clear. My GPU also heats up a lot more. Aren't RTW and M2TW supposed to be based on the same game engine? Is this normal?

Its a beefed up engine and far better optimised but only for the better cards if you want it to run smoothly...
Since Ive uprgaded to an 7600GS and 1gb RAM M2TW runs BETTER than RTW in campmap and slightly better on huge unit size...
However its scalable and it has multiple models per unit so no clones that puts strain on the system....
It's definitely your machine, because M2TW battles on high settings looks vastly superior to RTW battles on high settings. They made a lot of improvements to the graphics.

Assuming youre using an LCD monitor (since most people do these days), are you running the battles at your monitor's native resolution? If your monitor is, say, 1280x1024 and the game's running at 1024x768 then it's going to get blurred by the monitor's scaling algorithm (and the cheaper the monitor, the worse these algorithms tend to perform).
Of course, if you crank up the resolution, you may need to wind down some of the detail settings so that your graphics card can cope, but i find it's usually worth the exchange because my monitor was VERY cheap.
And yeah, M2TW will give your graphics card a serious workout. It looks a hell of a lot better than RTW though.
