View Full Version : Getting money ?
How can I get enough money ?
I have little "economical problems" in my current campaign : my army have to be huge because I have many ennemies but my lands/taxes dont bring me enough money ...
Should I tech more for economy (trading) ?
For the moment I have only two ports that can bring me money and the income is really poor.
Should I attack more (pillage) ?
How do you usually start your campaign in order to have enough money after 15-20 years ? agressive or tech/"turtle"-style ?
Thanks for advices.
Best regards,
Draksen de Normandie
Step 1. Agressive at first: expand and capture the crucial provinces that can give me ecenomy or military advantage, but won't go beyond the capablitly to hold and garrison it.
Step 2. Advance: clam up the tech tree. Build up big fleet for both trade income and troops movement.
Step 3. Expand: looking for economy and/or military advantage both in location and resources. Or raid enemy for income and also to reduce the enemy capablity in both economy and military.
Step 4. repeat the mix of 2 and 3.

For example, in the case of England, you stop "step 1" when you control the isle + Normandy, right ?
I ask that cause my last campaign turns bad when I decided to attack the french perhaps too early. It was easy to conquer land but my money was not ok after 10-20 years. And after that, with a poor income/year, it is very difficult to tech... or at least, it takes too much time.

Sorry that I edited the post just after you have read it.
For the English, as I just begin the third campaign playing as English, I would rather give up the in land provinces for the coastal provinces because of trade income. In land province makes very little in trade while coastal provinces can trade with many other coastal provinces (not including yours).
The best way is to get the French to attack you first. They will get excommed then you are free to go to war with them. I do this by retreat most of the troops from the province that I want the French to attack. Don't accept the French alliance offer if they do offer and that will piss them off.
Right now, I control from Britina to Friesland. Give up all of the in land provinces to the French. Next, I try to get Ireland and Scottland then I will settle down and work up the tech tree for better troops.
I am looking for the opportunity to get a piece of Spanish land such as Leon, Castine,... because of iron for weapon upgrade.
Or the easier option is to get Sweden (iron) and Norway (and may be Denmark too). If I go this way, I would expand East fighting the Russian to avoid getting trouble with the Pope.

Something which has worked well for me (on normal difficulty anyway)... try to back an enemy king into a province bordered by lands other than his own then attack both the province the king is in and the only friendly province he can retreat to at the same time... with a bit of you'll take him for ransom to the tune of about 10000 florins - something which can be put to good use building improvements.

Yeah once i was playing hard difficulty and i managed to capture the Khan of the Golden Horde and i ransomed him 4 10000,this was very useful in building my empire.

I played as danish and i start to pillage the southern provinces ;i have huge fleets and i do a lot of commerce;i add to my kingdom Malta and Portugal http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
the key word to have money is to expand both in territories and in the tech tree; build up commercial facilities and get new land ;
dont forget to give the tittles to characters with big acumen ( this is important )
good luck!
