One thing thats bothering me is that i cant move my army past an ally land.

I think there should an option of paying the landlord money so he will grant you access to pass with your army.

of course you will have the option to sneak attack him later :)

I agree... right of passage agreements would be damned useful (and beneficial to the ally too if they were attacked, 'cos then you'd be able to help them and mix it with the enemy).

I have an idea. Maybe it would be possible to create a "crusade" type unit, that is avaiable to everybody, and can attack every province. However no men would automatically join or leave it, regardless of fanatism. Since allies would let the "crusade" pass through their lands, that would be kind of similar to a right of passage agreement, kind of like: i'll let your troops pass - but only if they have a clear goal!

you can always use boats if it's a coastal province you want access to

Or when you drop your unit on a province another option comes up for just passing through, need to do that for each succesive province.

The problem is to keep a human from abusing the AI with this. What's to prevent me as the English from telling my dear friends and allies the French that I want to pass my army through his territory to attack our terrible enemies the HRE - and then suddenly dropping by the Ile de France, attacking and taking it from him? That's the problem that no one comes to grips with . . .

In a crusade, you have to specify a target province, don't you? And you can't do anything but move towards ot, and you can only battle those that try to stop you!

So I can't see how this could by abused.

Crusades seem to attack anyone of a different religion. In fact it says somewhere in the game that a Crusade has Papal dispensation to attack any non-Christian or excommunicated faction. An Italian Crusade was on it's way to Egyptian held Antioch. As the Turks I was quite prepared to let it through since I was at war with the Egyptians and allied to Italy. The matter was decided when the Crusade attacked me in Constantinople without even asking whether I'd let them through or not.
A faction therefore would be right to be wary of anyone of a different persuasion asking to pass through, allied or not.

Lo, all !

Another idea would be :

You could use an Emissary to negotiate an right of passage, with an province gouvenour, for the next year and only for the given province. If you have the right of passage your army can pass through the "allied" province during the next year, but does not get the option to attack that province. The Army would have to be removed the next year or a new right of passage has to be requested. If it fais to leave the "allied" province after the right of passage expired it could either automaticaly retreat to its own province, or could be forced to battle with the defenders of the "allied" province.

Hm. What about Jihads? (I'm not all that experienced, I'm afraid). Anyway, is there any way to mod the auto-join and auto-desert rates? I couldn't find any in the crusader_unit_prod11 file.
