You can change the start date but not the end date i start campaigns at 600ad (in the campmap/startpos early high or late text files.
SwooooOOosh
does gunpowder, compass and all that, shift backwards or do the advances still come around the same time as normal? Is there any way to just get all the "advances" right off? Cause I'm not tryin to play 600 turns before I get compass or gunpowder.
You can't get it all friend...
Actually in the first 500 years you shouldn't be able to build anything but peasants - just to reflect the poorer troop quality.....
On a more serious note I'd like to be able to extend the game too, maybe by being able to choose 2 or even 4 turns pr. year. I don't think it's going to happen though.
I noticed fields for early, high, and late period dates in the txt files. Do the tech advances activate around the period changes? Say, if I were to put 0 AD as the start date and early date, 1 and 2 AD as the high and late dates, respectively, could I expect compass and gunpowder to come right away?
I just wan't a longer game with a proportionally longer tech time frame if possible... preferably, indefinite.
I get my kicks out of maintaining a balance of power throughout the "world". If one country starts to dominate, I help put it back in its place. Its not as easy as it sounds, especially when you are trying to nurse a reemerging eliminated faction back to power via spies and limited military action. I play all turn based games like this, its just a bigger challenge to me than plowing the enemy down with my mighty armies.

Use the 1000 AD and use a high era. I used it before. It is pretty neat. And use the expert too! Very hard and fun!
I thought I was winning!!! I was for the Russia.....But know...That damn Germans was kicking my arse! It was cool the Germans had the Gothic Knights!

I've heard that, for truly infinite turns, set the start date AFTER the end date.
I don't know what that'll do with regard to the discovery of Gunpowder and the Compass.
