Just some ideas while they're still in my head. I apologize if some of these have been mentioned before.
- New strategic agent: a sword icon (produceable from palace). Place this in an ally/neutral territory (or on AI king / emissary) as a formal declaration of war. This way, I can declare a war (just to blockade his trade perhaps) without annexing any territory. No new diplomacy interface necessary, should be easy to implement.
- Land trade improvement: for land-lock provinces that have trade goods and are adjacent to a friendly province with port+trading post should have trade incomes too from foreign lands but at reduced rates (half). This way, provinces like Edessa and Syria that have very valuable goods would be more viable.
- Reinforcement: withdrawn unit should be replaced by unit of the same type (archer with archer, cav with cav). If not same type not available, put the next highest valor unit.

Completly agree w U guy, These provinces have very rare and valuable resources I must deserve more income w them...
Thinking the Ottoman's benefits (also Byz Emp) being on the bottleneck of traderoutes this happens to be an important absence http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Another thought on trade of inlands ...
The inland will have like 25-50% of income while neighbour province with port (ofcourse if under your control) can have the remaining 75-50%. This way we are forced to be more eager to defend our costal provinces!!
