Russian armies

Im playing a campaign as the russians (high) but have modded the start date to 500bc, I am worried at my armies lack of variability, I cant seem to get feudal knights or men at arms, is this because of the start date change or cant the russians get them? The troops i can build at the mo are :boyars:spearmen http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gifikemen:cavarcher:lithcav:steppecav:mountedcrossbow http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gifeasants:arbalisters: and those sailor peeps with bows oh and swiss pikemen: Not too much variation in there, i think maybe the game is difficult with the russians, All heirs are boyars ie -100 florins budget each time 1 matures, Boyars arent that good and steppe cavalry are good to a point. Btw another question i have built a master horse breeder but my steppe cavalry are only normal honor? surely this cant be right. Are they going to show honor upgrades in the training screen in the patch? I sure hope so. Anyways things are going well after i captured constantinople from the turkish http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Boyers aren't that good? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/confused.gif I just finished a campaign as the Russians and thought the Boyers were the best unit that I have used. A horse archer unit that can kick the crap out of all of the light cavalry are pretty useful to me.

I don't think I trained any, kind of expensive. I just used the units that I get when the heirs mature.

I like steppe cavalry too. Nice cheap cav unit when you are trying to run a tight budget.

Lithuanian cavalry were a disapoitment. i don't think they are that big of an improvement over steppe cavalry for the additional facilities and cost to train them.

For infantry, I concentrated on halberdiers and then pikemen later on. Arbalests were pretty much the only archer unit that I used.

You couldn't train men at arms becuase for whatever reason Russians don't get men at arms... or any good shock... or any spear units except normal spearmen.

By far the weakest faction (in Multi) even though Boyars are excellent.

Boyars may be good in mplayer but they are just too expensive to maintain 100+ florins for 40 men!

Russians are orthodox. It seems that only catholics get the fuedal/chiv. sergeant/MAA. This is not a concern for the Byz. because they have thier own good infantry. Also, knights are only for catholics.
