do u guys think that the time should be in seasons instead of years. I mean it dont take 4 years for an army to get from scotland to london.
You are right on that but it is a balance matter (it also dont take 1 year for U to recruit unit of peasants) Devs must answer why they choose years instead of seasons for the balance structure I guess (may be to limit the action time to make players more offensive) http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

I'm all for seasons. It's too bad this game is in years but it's too late to put seasons back in.
I'd assume that they didn't put seasons in because the game would be too long. I'd be happy with a long game but I guess some people didn't wanna play a 1600 turn game starting from the early era.

There is a reply else where on the forum from a developer which stated that the decision was made by the game designer as it was taking too long to complete a full campaign when useing seasons... They tried just Winter and Summer at first then went to years...
Not a good move in my (consumer) opinion...

I would greatly appreciate a 1600 turn game but I can understand devs fear (most of their income come from guys getting bored quickly)
Sorry if it is discussed early but dont you think that seasons (even summer/winter) gives players more strategic alternatives ?
Playying Turks I would be forced to use Spring & Summer since the nucleus of my army is horse archers - while cool seasons will be a great help for me in North Africa http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Unless I am very much mistaken, this would not have been too difficult to make optional, and should have been done IMHO.

It's getting warm in here...that must be one hell of an INFERNO!

If you had 4 times the turns you'd need 4 times the province... otherwise is would take you less than a century to conquer Europe every time.
Actually I think there should be double the number of provinces as it stands.
In my 2nd campaign (I had to stop the first becuase of CTD bug) playing early expert, I conquered Europe in 1375.
And that was a learning game. Knowing what I know now... well... let's just say I'll be playing late period games from now on. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
More provinces!! PATCH!!! PATCH!! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
I don't really care. The whole season thing is a tempest in a teapot. It's just not that big a deal to me as to whether I attack in what season. The season never made a difference to me in Shogun - I attacked whenever I wanted to - no matter what the weather was, BOTH me and my opponent had to deal with it, so no big deal. If it bothers you that it takes x years to do something, just think of it as x turns and ignore the year.

I really miss the seasons in the battlefield though...

One way around the risk-like movement rates, would be to give armies a movement rate higher than one, but say no more than 3-4 with most just having 2. simple MP costs - occupied enemy territory expends all MP. Pillaging costing 2 MP. Would allow a deep raid. Coupled with Right-of-Passage agreement with Allies, or just an engage/let pass option auxillary to Crusade method, could introduce a lot of wrinkles. It would be quite a can of worms to open no doubt.
Factors affecting:
wholly mounted army faster.
general's rank, having a gradual effect.
another virtue?
Seasons:
Why not an additional choice in the battle start dialog either at the campaign map level or at the battle screen?
Seasons do matter, but seasonal turns clearly not realistic for game of 400 years.
Used them and their weather mix in STW many times. This is one of the best parts of TW series IMHO - conditions are never just Moderate, No Wind at start.
Each season, like STW having its own chances for various weather. You shouldn't be able to know the weather on the day of battle, but surely be able to take your relative chances, attacking in a season.
Mixed feelings about: the longer you wait by season attacking, the fewer number of days before "enemy is upon us" pops up?

Soldier of Fortune
O Fortune, most contrary, Of changing never chary, Now small, now great, Appears your state; Just like the moon you vary.
The life your servants suffer Makes wits grow sharper, tougher, Through games of chance Which much enhance Both easy times and rougher.
Lo, penury or power May greet us any hour: Your wheel revolves And all dissolves Like ice beneath a shower.
O Lady Luck, alluring But faithless in securing The wealth we prize, From me likewise You hide, your face obscuring.
I've bet my shirt and lost, My hopes of bliss are crossed; And, lose or gain, I still remain Hard up - but hang the cost!
My pounding pulses crave One smile for me, your slave . . . Friends, keep with me And weep with me: She favors not the brave.

besides, i think since there are no seasons, weather is not very well balanced.
In my games, i had like 70% fine days, and 30% rain, and no snow at all. But so far i never went really north.

You never had rain during the fine days that were expected? I get it all the time. Sometimes, I get "Fine day expected", and before I click "ok", it starts to rain... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

In the games I've played, it seems to rain constantly in western Europe. Sometimes it doesn't start until halfway through the battle, but it has rained on probably 85% of my battles in France & England.
As has been mentioned elsewhere also, while one can't choose the season, each battle in a turn takes place in a different season beginning with Spring. If you have four battles that turn, you'll get a winter battle as the last one. While we might want the choice, it is historically accurate that winter was not a favored season for campaigning.

Hence I always have to fight the same number of battles for winter fights.
Bad programming, bad , bad...

It's not bad programming - it's not like it was on oversight, or an error, it was an intentional decision, duh. You can call it bad design, but the programmers do what they are told, they don't design the games.
