Servus Guildmates,
after reading a lot of threads about the swebos in this forum, I wanted to give you a feedback about the swebos, based on my experience of several campaigns with them.
When I played the 1.0 version for the first time, I was very impressed by the changes made, both for the new unit designs and the new units itself (Phalanx, etc.). But the longer I played the campaign it got more clearly that the Swebos were much weaker than in 0.81. This may sound crazy, but the new units didn't compensate the lost of the "Key-units", the Merjoz (2-hand Axmen) and the "wolves of wodanoz". These two units were needed to flank the enemy and kill them quickly. Because of the low lethality, the two clubman units are not able to do this fast enough and the Swebos frontline units don't have enough "standing power" for longer fights. Yes, there are the Bastarnos Falxmen which could do this, but they are to far away from the "homeland" to use them against the romans attacking from the South or West. The increased costs of most units and the downgrading of the German heavies (they lost two defense points and are no longer "very hardy") hit the Swebos also very hard. Especially for the german heavies I'm not sure if they are really meant to do so weak. They got eaten for breakfast from nearly all heavy infantry.
Well, so what's the point I want to say? In my opinion the Swebos need a high lethality unit like the Merjoz again. The costs, espezially for the light and medium Infantry, are a bit to high (remember the low economy of the swebos). Furthermore the German heavies need some improvement or cost decease either. They can't be used for the task of heavy infantry, but have the costs of heavy infantry. For sure, these are just my thoughts and others might think I'm wrong. But for me 1.0 meant a clear, not needed, nerf of the Swebos.
After so much critics I have to ensure you that EB is, despite the points above, the greatest mod I have ever played and I'm looking forward for the next version of EB 1.x and of course EB 2! Keep on with your work, your doing a fantastic job:2thumbsup: .
