Play as a faction that isn't unlocked yet?

For instance, I'm interested in starting a campaign as the Byzantine Empire, but I have re-installed the game and forgotten how to play as them.

My descr.strat file in my Medieval 2 Total War folder says that all the factions are unlocked, yet i can only play as: England, HRE, Spain, Venice and France.


Help?

If you want to unlock other factions then the descr_strat.txt beginning should look something like this ...


campaign imperial_campaign
playable
england
france
hre
spain
venice
sicily
milan
scotland
byzantium
russia
moors
turks
egypt
denmark
portugal
poland
hungary

end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
papal_states
aztecs
mongols
timurids
slave
end


Now .. if your file looks like that and you still can't play them then someone smarter should give you advice ..

Just blitzing a small campaign is no option? It shouldn't take too long :dizzy2:

small campaign + easy level + blitz = fast unlock


You won't even likely need to actually fight battles with that setup, just autoresolve and use your numerous forces to overwhelm their pitiful small armies

well .. if you want really fast to unlock those other factions then you can just do this .. only that I add "lots of cheats" to that equation :yes:
