View Full Version : Wine vs. Cedega
I'm a new Linux convert, via ubuntu, and was wonder which ones support games better, and more specifically, the totalwar series.

Unfortunately, I don't think either supports TW games very well. I think Cedega would be more user friendly and it might support more games, but on the other hand- Wine is free and open source. Personally, Ive never used Cedega but I have used Wine some and got several games working pretty well under it.
To see how well, if at all, Wine will run something- search their AppDB (http://appdb.winehq.org/)
I know from experience that Morrowind works almost perfectly in Cedega. Thw problem is: a lot of my other favourite games don't. Wine seems to support a slightly different subset of games, but if I can believe their game lists, MTW2 doesn't work very well on either.
I just came here to see if someone here had good ideas on how to play MTW2 without resorting to dual boot, but I fear I'm out of luck. I'm reaching the point where I'm willing to pay good money for proper DX9 support on linux, but apparently either DX9 is too hard to support completely, or their is simply not enough demand for linux support for Windows games. (And if there was, most developers would probably do a native release for linux.)
